I wish to offer my gratitude to everyone who has so kindly assembled today on this auspicious occasion of Dussehra. Today all over the world there are millions and millions of people celebrating this day. But like most spiritual occasions not so many know why? – It is a characteristic of kali yuga that even very sacred things are perceived very superficially. Often times religious festivals of all religions are more of an opportunity for some sort of social entertainment than for genuinely cult

The festival of Dussehra, also known as Vijaya dashmi, is one of the fascinating festivals of India and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm. According to the great scripture, the Ramayana, Lord Rama performed chandi-puja (holy prayer). This was carried out in order to invoke the blessings of Durga for the killing of Ravana, the ten-headed demon king of Sri Lanka who had abducted Sita, wife of Lord Rama.

Durga divulged the secret to Rama on how he could slay the great Ravana. Hence upon vanqui

Dussehra (Dassera) is one of the significant Hindu festivals, celebrated with much joy in the entire country. The occasion marks the occassion of Lord Rama and brother Lakshman approaching Mother Durga to ask her for her blessings in His planned attack on the demon Ravana. It is therefore considered that the Supreme Personality of Godhead's approaching her for blessings to remove material impediments to His spiritual goals should be the approach of the humble devotee of the Lord to clinche the

I joined Krishna consciousness in ’73.  The following is an homage to those residents in the ashram that I remember.

I was molded by the group on the street Gerrard
In those early days we worked together very hard
For the mission of our dear Srila Prabhupada
Our guru and magnanimous representative of God

We had given up the opportunities for a college degree
Instead laid a foundation for a spiritualized humanity
It meant very long hours in the heat and the snow
Out to the public to give what

Partnership by Bhaktimarga Swami

Here is a poem found in my recently published set of literary work called “The Walking Monk Poems. 1 available through Amazon or myself. This piece is called  “Love and Marriage,”

In pain and in fun

Sharing any burden

Listening is that skill
Requiring just the will

Complementing each other
Helps one to discover

Sacrificing is the key
In a mutual ‘we agree’

Compromising is forever
Simply say ‘no’ to ‘never’

Being gentle is

A devotee sees all as God’s dear children and wants to relieve their misery.

As eternal parts of Krishna, we naturally possess some of His quality of being concerned for the welfare of all living beings.

Krishna, the seed-giving father of all living beings (Gita 14.4), is also the well-wisher of all living beings (Gita 5.29). As a father wants the best for his children, Krishna wants the best for every one of us. And as a father provides for his children, so Krishna provid

7817479278?profile=RESIZE_400xWhy is devotee care important in our society?

We have the most complete philosophy, and Srila Prabhupada has given us the wonderful process of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Part of that process is taking care of the devotees. Actually, Krishna says that He has nothing else to do but to take care of His devotees. And since His devotees are always thinking about Him, He is also always thinking about His devotees. So actually, devotee care is one of the primary angas or aspects of Krishna consciousness
