"I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye." - Irfan Khan from the movie "Life of Pi"

Probably one of the best movie of Irfan Khan is the "Life of Pi" (that is the only movie I have seen of his). The movie shows how Irfan Khan as Pi, was saved once during the drowning of the ship in which his family was relocating to Europe and the second time, while being stranded alone in the Pacific Ocean along

Every day each and every one of us has so many wants.  For myself I want to place myself in a good position in order to chant on my meditation beads in the most attentive and effective way.  So I came up with something that is relaxing, comfortable and practical.  In a physical sense as well as mental this works for me.  I sit on a good chair with a fairly nice back support. It gets my bottoms off the cold floor plus it’s hard to sometimes make that smooth transition going up when you get older

Today marks the auspicious appearance day of a very great female personality, namely Sita Devi, the consort of Lord Ram. Sita Devi, one of the most prominent personalities in the great epic Ramayan, is an epitome of pure love and devotion and an exemplary chaste wife. Her character and her pastimes set a great example and high standards for all women in today’s world, whether in the role of a daughter, wife, mother or in fact in any role at all. It also shows the strength pure hearted women can

Sita devi, the wife of Lord Rama, was not born in the normal way, but of the Earth Goddess, Bhumi devi herself. In Maharishi Valmiki’s own words, Ramayana is known as the noble story of Sita — “Sita-Ayah Caritam Mahat”.

Janaka Maharaj, the king of Mithila, was ploughing a piece of land to prepare it for conducting a yajna. While ploughing, he unearthed a golden casket in which he found a beautiful girl, which caused him to be greatly overjoyed. Because land ploughed by the yoke is called ‘sita’

Today was an important day in regards to my health situation, and I want to hereby clarify the situation, as I know many of you are concerned about it.

Biopsies and a PET Scan performed around March 5th showed clearly that there was some cancer in my prostate. Before a decision was made on a longer term course of action against it, I was given a special anti-cancer injection, the effect of which lasts 3 months, to stop the cancer growing until it was decided what to do. Such an injection usuall

hans_slideshow.png?profile=RESIZE_584x

Hansadutta Das, a Srila Prabhupada disciple, pioneer and ISKCON leader in the society’s early days, passed away due to pancreatic cancer on April 25th. He was on his farm in Northern California, surrounded by his three children, with Srila Prabhupada’s kirtan playing in the background.

I was just completing my walk for the day when I received a call from one of our brahmin priests.  Like most people I’m in touch with these days, this bank employer was expressing his awe at how the world is at present and living with the doubt as to when all will normalize.  We both agreed through conversation that it will be a “different normal.”

I voiced my opinion that I wasn’t particularly fond of the old normal and that when we get over all of the shutdown existence there will be an adj

Prayojanamanoddiśya mandopi na pravartate (even idiot does not act without purpose)

Mentally retarded fool sees the action he performs to have complete sense, though the sane people consider them as abnormal.

As we can witness at the present time, unfortunately, the mentality and motives of leaders and scientists drastically succumb to lower modes. What was unthinkable just a decade ago is nowadays propagated and sanctioned as a normal course of action, thus creating idiocratic society based on wh

Bhaktivedanta Manor: Our prayers are with Rishi Kapoor, famous actor and director, who sadly passed away today.

We remain forever grateful that in our time of need, he came to our aid. In 1989 when Bhaktivedanta Manor was under threat of closure, he joined over 7000 campaigners on a sponsored walk to raise funds for the legal fees. Rishi walked at the front and gave a rousing speech.

Today the Manor flourishes but it would not be without the support of those kind persons such as Rishi Kapoor wh

Dear Prabhus,

Amidst the pandemic and the uncertainties it has brought (including for our printers), we have decided that this year we will publish Srila Prabhupada Tributes – “the open Vyasa-puja book” –exclusively as
an eBook (Kindle, ePub, and PDF). We plan to release the book in August just ahead of Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa-puja celebrations.

Going eBook-only gives us some opportunities:
  • Firstly: We will extend the deadline for submitting your offering to Sunday, 10th May 2020. That give

A newly discovered opera, Krishna, by Sir John Tavener is to be staged for the first time after the late composer’s friend Prince Charles flagged up its potential.

Sir John Tavener is one of the most acclaimed British composers of the postwar years, admired by Prince Charles and the Beatles, among others.
Tavener’s mesmerizing, trance-inducing music – listened to by some fans with a joint in hand – won him a cult following. At the age of 24 the Guardian called him “the musical discovery of the

Life is like a game of chess – whether you’re the king, queen or pawn, at the end of the game everyone ends up in the box. Unless, of course, you get cremated. Morbid? Depressing? Dark? Though discussions on death are not usually number one on our conversation list, I was invited to the Southbank Centre a few weeks ago to speak on the topic “what happens next?” In an auditorium filled with coffins and somber lighting, I shared some thoughts on the logic of life after death. Living in a communit

Prabhupada would tolerate disrespect of himself in order to keep a disciple engaged but he did not tolerate disrespect of Iskcon and his disciples. Although we were incompetent, he did not allow disciples to criticize other disciples.
“The intention of this video is not to defend the misdeeds of leaders and I agree that there needs to be a system in which complaints can be heard and addressed. In fact, I just mentioned this in a seminar this past weekend. I have been concerned about this since

The Passing of Arca Vigraha Devi Dasi
by Daivi Sakti Devi Dasi

Arca Vigraha Devi Dasi joined ISKCON in 1985. She was a successful artist who was disillusioned with material life and wanted an alternative. For a long time she searched for the truth, and she was finally satisfied when she met Srila Prabhupada’s devotees in South Africa.

She discussed philosophy with them and considered how to dovetail her art career in Krishna’s service. Thus she began working on a series of charcoal drawings whi

Karuna Sindhu and I were setting up our tent at a suburban intersection where it was fairly quiet – grassy with some trees to provide enough privacy for the night’s slumber.  It was just another one of those days, on the road, walking the country, putting in a good 40 kilometres/25 miles.  Some young boys, a half a dozen or so from the neighbourhood, heard about the Walking Monk.  They huddled around Karuna and I as we were setting up.  They were intrigued with our rugged life-style as marathon

Question: I read a quote that says that the secret of success is that we should act as if everything depends on ourselves, but internally we should pray as everything depends on Krishna, and these are two lines that internally we develop our devotion to Krishna, but also our expertise in different fields, like if we cook – then we should learn how to cook properly, or for example we play mridanga, we should also learn how to do it properly. The question is that while developing an expertise in

By Vijaya Prabhu

One Muslim boy was reluctant to take a book from me because it was from outside his tradition. I saw him another day, and he said, “I had this dream the Bhagavad-gita came to me glowing.” I again encouraged him to get the book, and after repeated attempts, he finally accepted it.

This knowledge can pull people out of the modes of material nature.

We are still tinged, but we have come a long way.

We are not distributing paper and ink but jewels.

I tell the people, “You cannot pu
