You told that Devotees told You not to eat cakes on Your birthday. Maybe they jokingly said it to You, please do not take it seriously!
Krishna Consciousness is not fasting religion but feasting :D!
Because of that offer to Krishna as much nice cakes as You can and invite Friend Devotees home and have a nice feast with various Prasadam items.
