Pujari from Sri Adwaita Acarya's house in Santipura, West Bengal by Mulaprakrti devi dasiThis story was heard in Mayapura in 1980. A man came to the ISKCON's Caitanya Candrodoya Mandira carrying with him a copy of the Back of Godhead article about Srila Prabhupada, entitled A Lifetime in Preparation. A very simple question but so many people seem to get it wrong. There are some funny ideas out there, so we will try to clean them up and give some practical assistance herein .The word vegetarian, coined by the founders of the British Vegetarian Society in 1847, comes from the Latin word vegetus, meaning "whole, sound, fr

Nov 10, USA (SUN) — Since October 18th, the Sampradaya Sun website has published 52 articles discussing what can be called "The Hrdayananda Goswami Issue". I apologize to the readers up front for adding to that sum, but I do so for a slightly different purpose.I would submit that the subjective importance that the editors of the Sun and its various contributors assign to HDG and his purported "influence", beneficial or not, is at best an exaggerated preponderance, and at worst, an egregious reve

January 3, 1975Share : Satsvarupa Dasa GoswamiPrabhupada lecture notesYesterday I heard Prabhupada give a lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.26.26 on January 3, 1975, in Mumbai. The false ego in the material world is divided into three according to the modes of material nature. Persons in the mode of goodness see this material world as it is. Those in the modes of passion are making plans without any aim of life. Those in the modes of ignorance are like animals. This ahankara makes one think he belo

By Indradyumna SwamiWhen I arrived at my residence in Vrindavan-dhama, the strain of eleven months of traveling and preaching caught up with me, and I was unable to go outside for two weeks. I spent the time resting, chanting extra rounds, and reading. One evening I decided that the next morning I would finally go out to visit some temples.“There are over five thousand temples in Vrindavan,” I thought, “but even visiting the seven main ones might prove too much for me at this point. I’ll just vi

Dear devotees,Please accept my best wishes. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.I haven’t written since arriving in Mumbai for the GBC meetings about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I’m sorry about that. The meetings were basically nice. Our movement now has a Chief Executive Officer, Ramai Maharaja, who will be seeing that all our resolutions and decisions are followed up on. In the GBC Body many good decisions are made, but due to the pressing duties of all the GBC members, sometimes they are not followed up pro

Radha Mohan Das : It has been forty years since ISKCON made its first mark on the streets of London. The unmistakable sounds of cymbals, saffron and shaven heads charmed and startled Oxford Street in London’s West End, reaching the Evening Standard with the headline “Hare Krishna Startles London”. Nowadays ISKCON is woven to the fabric of London life yet still parades of devotees sharing the Holy Names with shoppers, revelers, business people and international tourists is very common.1969 was th

Whenever we hear of a sensational act of terrorism somewhere in the world, especially when it involves the random killing and maiming of innocent people, we ask, “Why?” And when a particular terrorist group comes forward and claims credit for some atrocity, we ask the same question, this time more deeply -- “Why? Why do they hate so much? What can be done to stop them?”The experts say to explain, what to speak of to remedy, terrorism is difficult, because it is such a complex and varied phenomen

HUMAN MINDHuman mind is never still..Like the flowing water it moves steadily & endlessly from onethought to another..-the mouth likes to talk..-the tounge carves to taste..-the eyes long to see..-the legs desire to walk..Every sense organ goes outward seeking pleasureHow can the mind-control be achieved??The water is controlled by arresting its flow..By- dams- embankmentsonly for a while...only until the water gets forceful enough to gush out.The mind flows through the sense organs,by shutting

During Japa today I struggled with keeping my mind from wandering here, there and everywhere...it's a daily struggle and I usually close my eyes, cup my hand to my ear (so I can hear properly) and just focus on hearing the Mantra.Sometimes this doesn't work though, so I use my last weapon to defeat the mind....reading the mantra whilst I chant. This works everytime and keeps my mind right on the Mantra...it's like a big stick or a slipper, beating the mind into submission "Stay on the Mantra...d

How do I know I have chanted good rounds? One of the best indicators for me is that when I finish my rounds I want to keep chanting because I am getting such a nice taste. If I am relieved to put my bead bag down after my last round, that's an indicator that my chanting is not being done properly.Good chanting always produces a taste to chant more. Prabhupada said sixteen rounds is the minimum; constant chanting is the goal.sri sri Gaura Nitai ki jaisri sri Krishna balrama ki jaisri sri Lalita Vi
