My Memories of Srila Prabhupada

At the beginning of the class on March 11th, after chanting the Sanskrit sloka responsively with the devotees, Srila Prabhupada exhorted all to chant the Sanskrit verse. I felt pleased and encouraged by this, because I always took pleasure in chanting the verse. Later in the same lecture, Srila Prabhupada said, "I am very glad that you European and American boys have taken so much trouble to come here," which made me feel happy. However, he continued, "But you'll b

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is always accompanied by His plenary expansion Sri Nityananda Prabhu, His incarnation Sri Advaita Prabhu, His internal potency Sri Gadadhara Prabhu, and His marginal potency Srivasa Prabhu. He is in the midst of them as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. One should know that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is always accompanied by these other tattvas. Therefore our obeisances to Sri Caitanya

My Memories of Srila Prabhupada

The only time I had eye-to-eye contact with Srila Prabhupada was at Bhaktivedanta Manor, I think 1976, during a darsana in Srila Prabhupada's room. Somehow Srila Prabhupada's glance fell on me, and I was bold enough to hold it. Srila Prabhupada did not exactly look at me, but into me. I felt ashamed at all the bad things he was seeing. But there was also concern.... Srila Prabhupada's glance rested on me for a second only, then turned elsewhere. I will never forget

GURU: Like a Viceroy!

"Prabhupada explains, Vyasa Puja address in '72, just like in our country when there was British rule, there was a Viceroy, the king's representative, so naturally when the Viceroy used to go to some meeting many people used to present valuable jewels, valuable, because just to honor him. But the law was that not a single of the jewels or contribution, the Viceroy could touch. It was going to the royal treasury. The Viceroy should accept on behalf of the King all contribution, but it goes to the

My Memories of Srila Prabhupada

The second darsana was the famous interview with Mike Robinson of the London Broadcasting Corporation, a local radio company. Devotees were already crowding the room when Mr. Robinson entered. Mukunda Prabhu (now Mukunda Goswami), who was organizing the meeting, asked him if he wanted the devotees to leave while it was conducted. But Mr. Robinson didn't want to put others to trouble for his sake, and even though Mukunda asked him twice, he insisted that it was alri

My Memories of Srila Prabhupada

During this visit, Srila Prabhupada accepted several new candidates for initiation, including me. On the following Janmastami, our GBC, Hansaduta Prabhu, conducted the initiation ceremony on behalf of Srila Prabhupada. I was given the name Ilapati dasa brahmacari.

The second time I saw Srila Prabhupada was in England in 1976. Srila Prabhupada stayed about four days, and I was able to go on one morning walk with him -- the only morning walk I ever got to go on with S

My Memories of Srila Prabhupada

Upon seeing Srila Prabhupada coming slowly and majestically down the stairs, the devotees waiting outside the temple room
immediately bowed down. Everyone except me. I thought, "Let me see Prabhupada." Srila Prabhupada was glowing, literally.
He looked more grave than anyone I had ever seen before. I just stared at his divine form for a few seconds, and wanted to
go on and on just looking at him. But knowing and feeling it to be improper not to bow down, I also offere

PRABHUPADA'S QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Today, 15th March, now it is 7:35, gone, as soon as it is 7:36, you cannot bring back that 15th March, evening, 7:35, again. Even if you pay millions of dollars, "Please come back again," no, finished. Canakya Pandita says, "Time is so valuable that if you pay millions of golden coins, you cannot get back even a moment." What is lost is lost for good. "If you such valuable time spoil for nothing, without any profit, just imagine how much you are losing, how greatly

*In this world we spend hundreds of gallons of blood to bring a person out
of the clutches of maya*

Once some devotees were sent to establish a preaching center in Bengal. They
worked day and night, equipping it as a beautiful temple. When Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati arrived to install the Deities, he was very
pleased and asked about one brahmacari who had worked hard on the
preparations.

The disciples told him, "Master, he became entangled with a lady. We rebuked
him so much for his behavior that h
