Recently visited Akrura ghat at vrindavan dham. Pujari came up to me to tell me his explanation of pastime - akrura was a non devotee and therefore working with kamsa.

when he came to vrindavan , this place akrura ghat marks end of mathura and begining of vrindavan. Then he said this side (pointing to vrindavan) is for spiritualists and other side (pointing to mathura) is for materialistas. so here by touch of vrindavan akrura became pure devotee. In the same way  saint chaitanya mahaprabhu came here and he came herefirst. place where he sat first there he was not experiencing ecstacy  not able to understand he prayed for help. And then hanumanji came and took him inside the boundary of vrindavan..and then he felt ecstatic........oh!  when i heard i wished i could have carried with me srila prabhupada's krishna book and given him that as gift. Coming back to my room i received this email (below) fortunate we are that we are saved from all this mixings and misinterpretation..

Read on the email.

It is very important to hear only from pure devotees.  Srimad Bhagavatam is pure milk. It is nectar. But whoever speaks, whatever they speak, their consciousness is also mixed into it. So therefore when we hear from such persons - that influence of their consciousness are pierced into our heart. Similarly if someone is a mayavadi, like many speakers of Bhagavatam, their ultimate conclusion is Mayavad. Their ideal is to become God. So when we hear from them, even if we are devotees and we understand the proper conclusions but when we hear from them, the effect of their consciousness is entering into our heart. Therefore it’s so very important to hear from pure devotees, Srila Prabhupada defines pure devotees in various ways at various times, one explanation of a pure devotee is a person who has attain Prema Bhakti, a person who has achieved love of Krsna, whose consciousness is no longer affected by the three modes of material nature. Pure means without adulteration that means the natural state of the soul isnot in any way contaminated. That is pure. Prabhupada explains ‘to be purified means to be brought back to its natural state just like pure water means there is no contaminates into it’. To purify water, you don't put anything in the water, you just take everything else out of the water. Yes! So pure love, you don't put love into your heart, you just take everything else out then there is pure love. Because that is essence, the nature of the consciousness, nitya-siddha krsna-prema sadhya kabhu naya/sravanadi suddha citta koriya udaya.

Dear Devotees

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

As I am finishing my last preparations for the upcoming Japa and Kirtan Retreat in Radhadesh, I'm becoming increasingly enthusiastic. This Retreat will be different from all the other ones which I have facilitated in the past. The main inspiration for this retreat will be the Bhajan Rahasya of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura which is a fantastic, experience oriented guide book for a deep and fulfilling practice with the Holy Name.  I can't wait to share the treasures of this work with you which has guided me over the past 15 years or so.

I request you to arrange your lives in such a way that you can be free and unimpeded to really take this 1 week out of our life and go on this Holy Name Retreat. I can guarantee that you will find great treasures which will inspire you for many long years.

Your servant

You manifest in many forms, like Aghadamana (the subduer of the Agha demon), Yasodanandana (the son of Yasoda), Nandasuna (the son of Nanda Maharaja), Kamalanayana (the lotus-eyed), Gopicandra (the moon of the gopis), Vrindavanendra (the Lord of Vrndavana), Pranatakaruna (the compassionate master of the surrendered souls), and Krsna. Oh holy name, let my attachment for You increase more and more.

Last year we arranged Europe yatra for 23 days for a group of 60 devotees from here and visited many countries like London, Radha Desh, Paris, Switzerland, Italy, Somogovamous (Hungary), Austria, Nrsimha Kshetra (Jandelsbrunn), Praque. We visited 11 temples and through out had food caravan cooking two times full meal for all of us.

It is at least 20% cheaper than the similar trips organised by SOTC or Cox & Kings as we have direct supplier and food caravan in Europe.

Meeting "tiger mask"

Gaura Purnima Sankirtana lila from Okinawa, Japan [2011-03-22]

Dear Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Yesterday an amazing thing happened while Gita Govinda was on Sankirtana.Ê I was out chanting with a mrdanga in my usual spot and my friends walked by with a donation box for the earthquake victims.Ê I called them over and dropped a 500 yen gold coin in their bucket and gave them a mantra card for their daughter. Gita also gave a small donation on Gaura Purnima but I did not know that until later. I had come back after fasting all day, took a little Prasad, and then passed out!! My phone rang four timesÊ but I was really down so missed 4 calls from Gita Govinda.Ê She walks in the door with a huge smile saying, Nuja I met Tiger mask today! (Tiger mask is several people in Japan who go around silently handing out money or goods by package discreetly) She pulls out a wad of 10,000 yen notes and counts to 16! WOW!! 160,000 yen for a Krsna book and a Light of the Bhagavat! That is about $2,000 usd...what can we say? GAURANGA!!!!! The generous man declined to take more than two books saying they would be too heavy to carry. Fortunately she woke me up after an hour and we both continued Sankirtana until 12 midnight.Ê I should say His most merciful, munificent and magnanimous name again and again...GAURANGA!!!!!

Dress to please Krsna

Prabhupada: Why your dress is not as a sannyasi?

Tusta Krsna: The robes make people uncomfortable, Prabhupada. They see you as different and can't relate. They won't relax enough to listen when I wear robes.

Prabhupada: But sannyasis must dress in saffron with robes and shaven head.

Tusta Krsna: I am following all the principles, but the dress is external and superficial. Why should we let it hamper the preaching?

Prabhupada: If the dress is superficial, why should you change your dress to please people who are so serious about superficial? (Pause) You understand my point? Superficial people become controlled by superficial and external things. Why do you dress to please superficial people? You should dress to please Krsna.

Tusta Krsna: So you would like me wear saffron and shave up?

Prabhupada: Yes, I want you to promise this. Only wear saffron and keep your head shaved. This is sannyasi dress. You should promise.

Tusta Krsna: Yes, Prabhupada. I promise.

Sankirtana anyplace, anytime!

Hare krsna Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

My wife Bhaktin Shannon and I were moving from our base in Arkansas to New Vrindavan. After a few hours of driving, we decided to take a break and take advantage of a local mall in the suburbs of St. Louis to distribute some books and Prasadam. It was 9pm. We noticed most of the people were milling around the Starbucks on the corner. We struck up a conversation with the two ladies behind the counter, mentioning how we like to cook and share what we make with others. The conversation evolved into Krsna conscious philosophy and the New Vrindavan community.

They were excited to accept a variety of cookies, sweet balls & books. They even offered to give us free drinks. While Teresa set us up with some hot milk, Faith offered us a $10 donation for a Higher Taste, Intro to Gita, and Krsna, Reservoir of Pleasure pamphlet. We then offered another set of books to Teresa, who offered us $6. Upon returning to the car, we wanted to share with them some special Prasadam we had prepared, so Shannon brought that to them and Faith donated another $10. We took their emails and immediately wrote to them once we got in the car (thanks to the iPhone). The combination of their mood, their names, & the blissful exchange enlivened us on our journey. There are generous people everywhere in the world waiting for devotees to approach them with Prasadam & books. Just stop by your local mall or anywhere else and share the mercy!

"Holi is the last festival of the Hindu calendar with the new year coming up in a few days. As devotees circumambulate the holy fire, they pledge to make a new beginning by letting bygones be bygones."

Saturday will see nearly 10,000 devotees arrive at the ISKCON temple in Juhu for day-long festivities culminating in a grand flower shower in the evening.

"Holi is the appearance day of the Chaitanya incarnation of Lord Krishna. It was he who gave the world the Hare Krishna mantra which is the remedy for the ills of Kaliyuga," says spokesperson Parijata Devi.

Scores of people arrive for the abhishek where the 10 temple deities are bathed in colourful fruit juices and showered with petals comprising rose and lily. "All the deities are dressed in new clothes and sumptuous prasad comprising 56 preparations or 'chhappan bhog' is offered to Lord Krishna," says Parijata Devi. Interestingly, the god also receives cake as part of this spread. ISKCON also organizes a rath yatra where a silver palanquin bearing the idol is escorted to Juhu beach.

This signifies the desire of the lord to grant darshan to those who cannot visit the shrine.

3rd Annual Boat Festival in Yamuna

Saturday March 26th marks the 3rd Annual Boat Festival in Yamuna organized by ISKCON Vrindavan! The annual boat festival in the temple courtyard will be on Monday 28th March. Every year thousands of devotees come to Mayapur for the Holy Appearance Day of the Golden Avatar of Krishna Prema Sri Krishna Caitany Mahaprabhu. Afterwards many of these devotees come for wonderful parikramas of Braja Dhama. Taking advantage of their auspicious presence, for many years we have been organizing  the Boat Festival in the temple courtyard. Since it has become so popular it has become very crowded, so for last three years, we are organizing a second Nauka Bihar festival on a Saturday evening on the Sacred Waters of Kalindi, especially for the devotees from out of town to participate!

This year, just as last year, the festival will be at the Vrindavan Kumbha Mela Grounds on a very scenic forested place on the river banks! Our goal is to  spread the glories of Srila Prabhupada and have a festival that would become famous in Vrindavan and which all can attend. We will start with a huge ecstatic Nagar Sankirtan procession through the holy Nagar of Vrindavan with gorgeous 3ft Radha Shyamsundar Deites that we are making just for the occasion. This year we have added something new! At 5pm while we are setting up Their Lordships on the gorgeously decorated boat, all the devotees will do Yamuna Puja by offering abhisheka of milk into her holy stream!

Radhe Shyam will then sail on the cool dark waters of Kalindi while the devotees surround them in other boats showering Them with flower petals! Meanwhile on the banks we will have an ecstatic kirtan going on led by HH Lokanath Swami! Towards the end, we will offer a delicious Chappan Bhog offering for the pleasure of Their Lordships and after Mahaprasad will be distributed to the devotees! To conclude the festivities, there will be an exciting fireworks display over Yamuna's stream.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami

Live From Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir!

Date: March 12th, 2011

Topic: Dhruva Maharaja Goes Back to Godhead

Verse: 4:12:36

Speaker: HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami

yad bhrajamanam sva-rucaiva sarvato

lokas trayo hy anu vibhrajanta ete

yan navrajan jantusu ye 'nanugraha

vrajanti bhadrani caranti ye 'nisam

TRANSLATION: The self-effulgent Vaikuntha planets, by whose illumination alone all the illuminating planets within this material world give off reflected light, cannot be reached by those who are not merciful to other living entities. Only persons who constantly engage in welfare activities for other living entities can reach the Vaikuntha planets.  [HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Heavy verse, very heavy verse.]

PURPORT: Here is a description of two aspects of the Vaikuntha planets. The first is that in the Vaikuntha sky there is no need of the sun and moon. This is confirmed by the Upanisads as well as Bhagavad-gita (na tad bhasayate suryo na sasanko na pavakah [Bg. 15.6]). In the spiritual world the Vaikunthalokas are themselves illuminated; there is therefore no need of  sun, moon or electric light. It is in fact the illumination of the Vaikunthalokas which is reflected in the material sky. Only by this reflection are the suns in the material universes illuminated; after the illumination of the sun, all the stars and moons are illuminated. In other words, all the luminaries in the material sky borrow illumination from Vaikunthaloka.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami : This is all very heavy information, very heavy information. This is real science.]
From this material world, however, people can be transferred to the Vaikunthaloka, if they incessantly

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Look at Prabhupada's language here - if they incessantly. Incessantly means constantly]  engage in welfare activities for all

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Not some. If Prabhupada wanted to say some he would say some.] other living entities.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: That includes germs, birds the worm in stool, not just human beings, all other living enitities. Otherwise Prabhupada would  have said be merciful to humans. No he says, to all other living entities because he is  repeating the verse. It says for other living entities, only persons who constantly engage in welfare activities for other living entities. So, mercy!]

Such incessant welfare activities can really be performed only in Krishna consciousness. There is no philanthropic work [HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Philanthrophic work means mundane charity such as opening hospitals. We have a Krishna conscious hospital also, Bhaktivedanta hospital but if you go in there the first thing you see is Srila Prabhupada in the lobby. You find Srila Prabhupada He is sitting in the lobby of Bhaktivedanta Hospital, surrounded by a nice little garden environment and what in America is called elevator music or lift music playing, instead of that there is Prabhupada singing on the loud speaker. So wherever you walk in the hospital Prabhupada is singing. Sometime other bhajan. Mostly Prabhupada singing wherever you go. The speakers are everywhere, in every hallway and every room. You have a dail that you can change. You can listen to Srila Prabhupada or you can listen to other bhajans. So the point is without Krishna there is very negative or very little value. So that is philanthropic work. It is a kind of mundane activity without Krishna] within this material world but Krishna consciousness that can engage a person twenty-four hours a day.

A Krishna conscious being is always engaged in planning how to take all of suffering humanity back home, back to Godhead. Even if one is not successful in reclaiming all the fallen souls back to Godhead, still, because he is Krishna conscious, his path to Vaikunthaloka is open. He personally becomes qualified to enter the Vaikunthalokas, and if anyone follows such a devotee, he also enters into Vaikunthaloka.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: This is very important. Prabhupada's use of language is very specific. This is sravanam. The perfection of life following in the footsteps of iIf we are going to perfect this sravanam we can perfect life. So his words are juicy and full of meaning. Just like Prabhupada was asked about Brahma-samhita. How many of you have read Brahma-samita. Well that is not too bad. The problem is that even for those that are well versed in the English language Brahma - samhita is very erudite. Erudite means very, very high class, very, very complex language. Even if you are well versed even if you have a good education in the English language still such a person is challenged. I have education in English language but I will admit that I am challenged in Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur's purports to Brahma-samhita. Even if you are uninitiated one day I forsee that there out to be a version presented of Brhama-samita that has simplified languages because for example I have been preaching in India for eight years and people can't understand the average English vocabulary what to speak of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur's.

So Prabhupada was asked why he used such big words. Srila Prabhupada replied because he would only choose and he would only utilize the most perfect language. So that is Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur. So we have to appreciate that Srila Prabhupada is doing the same thing although he is using more digestible language.]
Others, who engage in envious activities, are known as karmis. [Oooh! That is a slap. That is a chop. We use the word karmi like slang.] Karmis are envious of one another.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Yes not only envious of devotees, envious of the holy name, envious of Krishna and envious of each other. Obviously that's why there are constant wars. I mean even in India, India and Pakistan are fighting over a glacier, a glacier! I have seen photographs of what they are fighting over way up in the northern tip, way up in the Himalayas. The soldiers have to wear these suits this thick because it is an iceberg. I remember the men with guns on one side and the men with guns on the other side for Pakistan. They were fighting a war for an iceberg. What is the practical application? An iceberg! This is called ahankara, false ego. Mine! No mine! [Barks] In India there are a lot of street dogs so at night the patrol their territory. [Barks] Get out! Go away! So our hso called human society, dvi-pada-pasu, two legged animals as if any better. Unless you have Krishna consciousness, unless you hear from the  devotees of the Lord, starting with the pure devotees of the Lord, means especially Srila Prabhupada and his representatives also who are repeating Srila Prabhupada. Here Prabhupada is saying envious of one another. This is obvious. They are fighting over an iceberg - useless. It has no value to it except 'I' and 'mine']Simply for sense gratification, they can kill thousands of innocent animals.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Unfortunately in India, in Delhi where I have been preaching for the last few years, there is the largest slaughter house in whole of Asia. It is a great scandal and the Indians do nothing about it, even the so called good Hindus do nothing about it. 15 000 animals per day are slaughtered in Delhi in Asia's biggest slaughter house. All the Hindus just remain silent. These days it is a fashion, they go to McDonalds. So this is hellish and extremely dangerous. The only reason why Krishna hasn't blown Delhi off the map is because there are devotees. [Claps] Jiva jago. It is not me. I am not asking for applause for my sake. It is the concept. The proper ito understand is that there is me, the speaker, then there is the message of Krishna and Prabhupada and then there is sastra. In this way it is multidimensional. Try to understand. Sastra is multidimensional. Bhagavatam is multi dimensional. It is not linear. If you want to make it linear you will become bored with Krishna consciousness.
In other words the speaker gets to hear also. Why? Because the message of Krishna is in cognition with Krishna, you understand? If we are talking about devotees, if we are talking about devotional service that pravacan, that message that is incognizant, that is Krishna Himself in sound  vibration. Just as Sukadeva Goswami was speaking, that is kirtanam. Maharaja Pariksit was hearing, sravanam. Okay we are not on the level of Sukadeva Goswami but still it is sabda Brahman. How many of you know the meaning of sabda brahaman? Uh oh! Ladies and gentleman you know what is coming! I respectfully submit if you don't know what is sabda Brahman you are not reading Prabhupada's books.

You have got to read Srila Prabhupada's books if you want to advance in Krishna consciousness. We say para dukha dukhi. Here this whole purport is about compassion. The verse is about compassion but to become compassionate we have to become purified. Our biggest homework task - as school children we have to do homework - our biggest task is to become purified - ceto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam [Siksastakam verse 1] Our hearts have to become clean. So in order to become purified by contact with Srila Prabhupada's books which means direct contact with Srila Prabhupada. Don't think that the contact with Srila Prabhupada's books is indirect. No. Contact with Srila Prabhupada's books means direct contact with Prabhupada. So I respectfully and offer my dandavat pranams to all of you exalted devotees. Anyone who chants the holy names is exalted.

When Mahaprabhu went to a village in South India and every time He went touring South India they would have only one question, "Who is a Vaisnava?"  Kulinagram is the name of the village. They would ask, "Who is a Vaisnava?" So Mahaprabhu said, "Whoever chants hare Krishna they are Vaisnava." That is one answer. He gave three different answers.

So here we have an assembly of exalted devotees. We should take the dust of the feet of all the devotees and put on our heads because one who chants the holy names of the Lord within guru parampara under the direction of Srila Prabhupada's line of disciplic succession such persons are mahatama, actually great souls. So I will continue. This animal slaughter is very serious.Prabhupada doesn't mention it here but many times Nrsimha guru, Prabhupada is roaring against animal slaughter.]

Jnanis are not as sinful as karmis, but they do not try to reclaim others back to Godhead.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: In other words, in America we say cerebral. It means the front globe of the brain, intellectualism. Jnanis are intellectuals. They just want word jugglery. "I think. In my opinion. Perhaps, maybe." Isn't it? And they call that science. This is what they say, "Perhaps; maybe; in my opinion." Who are you?! Who cares for your opinion? You are born. You are going to grow old; you are going to die with  your opinion also. And then after your death your opinion will be changed by others. It certainly is. I may discharge at those who believe in the modern scientific paradigm. I may discharge.

In America there was a book, a famous periodical called, 'Scientific America' How many of you heard of it? It is one of the world's most famous, most prestigious scientific magazines. All the latest stuff, all the hot stuff, all the latest theories, the lasts speculations, all these things are published in 'Scientific America.' If you can get published in 'Scientific America' wow, you are going to get really big, big pratista. Pratista means position. But my challenge is very simple.

Please pick up a forty year old copy of 'Scientific America' Check what it says against what they say now. "Oh but we don't believe that anymore." That means what you were marketing before; this hot knowledge was nothing but avidya, ignorance. So forty years old it gets dead just like you will be dead one day  also. What is the use? That is not knowledge, science. The word science comes from a Latin word. The root Latin word for the word science is 'scio' You know what it means? Scio means to know. As they say, 'Perhaps, maybe, we think." You think! That is the problem. Mental platform, mano-rathena - means the chariot of the mind. Everybody is riding the chariot of the mind. Like in the west they have roller coasters. Sometimes they are imitating so you also get them in India. If you are very successful you can vomit. They ride and everybody screams. You go to these theme parks, they are screaming. This is pleasure? That is like this mind, mano-rathena - chariot or rollercoaster if you like. Jnanis are just following the chariot of the mind or the useless mental speculation. So jnanis are not as sinful as karmis but they do not try to reclaim others.] They perform austerities for their own liberation. Yogis are also engaged in self-aggrandizement by trying to attain mystic powers.

[HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: In other words the yogis want to become powerful by siddhis. Sometimes these days there may be a modern charlatan who presents himself as God. He may have some mystic powers but that still does not ake him God. If you go to Kumbhamela, ther are some yogis there but weare not interested.]
But devotees, Vaisnavas, who are servants of the Lord, come forward in the actual field of work in Krishna consciousness to reclaim fallen souls. Only krishna conscious persons are eligible to enter into the spiritual world. That is clearly stated in this verse and is confirmed in Bhagavad-gita, wherein the Lord says that there is no one dearer to Him than those who preach the gospel of Bhagavad-gita to the world. [End of Srila Prabhupada's purport to SB 4.12.36]

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami:  the first point Prabhupada is making or the verse is making, self effulgent Vaikuntha planets. There is no illumination by sun or moon or electricity. Once I was in one of these new-age bookshops in Los Angeles where they have different versions or different translations of Sanskrit literatures for those that are shopping for something spiritual but don't know what they are doing. I saw one edition of Bhagavad-gita written by a so called scholar. He was furious that Prabhupada wrote that the planets are not illuminated by electricity. He was furious. He was blaspheming Prabhupada, "What is this that Swami Bhaktivedanta says, no electricity, as if there was no electricity 5 000 years ago." Was there electricity 5 000 years ago?

How many of you know the answer? Yes there was. Now the next question is where do we have a discussion in Prabhupada's books readily available aboutelectricity 5 000 years ago? Anybody knows?

Prabhu: In Krishna book.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: In Krishna book. [Claps] That is the correct answer. Which story Prabhu?

Prabhu: Dvarakalila.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Dvaraka was well fortified but I believe it was one of the demons. Yes fortified with a moat. Moat means a ditch full of water around it. Electric fence is specifically mentioned there. Unless you want to be a blasphemer, you want to be a charlatan you can say, "That Swami Maharaja he didn't translate it properly." Okay fine you can say like that and there are lower planets available. [Laughter]

It was fortified with electricity and another layer of poisoned gases and barbed wire. So much fortification, so much defense he had around. That was his defense against human beings. It did not do any good, I think it was Krishna's cakra that just wiped it out. It wasn't any good against the force of Krishna but in the purport Prabhupada writes that even my modern security standards it was well fortified by the best of modern technology. This fort was well fortified by modern standards of technology. They have got this type of technology of poison gases. Prabhupada is commenting this technology was there. So much for primitive culture, so much for primitive India. This was in India.

The Vaikuntha planets are not illuminated by electricity or the sun or moon. So this demoniac person couldn't stomach that Prabhupada wrote, "Not illuminated by electricity.' He couldn't handle it, couldn't take it. Because it wasn't supposed to be. He is such a muddha, such an ass. There wasn't supposed to be electricity 5 000 years ago but there was and these principles are going on since time immermorial.

The next interesting point is that these planets are giving off reflective light to the material world. So the real light is coming from Vaikuntha and is reflected in the planets and just as the light of the sun and is reflected in stars. Prabhupada writes, i after the illumination of the sun, all the stars and moons are  illuminated. In other words, all the luminaries in the material sky borrow illumination from Vaikunthaloka." This is amazing. They borrow illumination from Vaikuntha.

In the Bhagavad-gita we also see that Krishna says, "I am the light in all luminous things." This includes the Vaikuntha planets, includes the material planets, includes the suns and the moon. It even includes the headlights on your automobile. Does everybody agree? If it shines Krishna says, "That's me." Yes He is the light.

In order to get to Vaikunthaloka the verse is saying only persons who constantly engage in the welfare activities can reach the Vaikuntha planets. We have to reach some understanding what it means to reach Vaikuntha. First of all you can perform austerities and penances, you can go but in Vaikuntha and also Vraj you must actually have the invitation of a devotee. You must render service to a devotee and that devotee must have a link through disciplic succession, a link to that effulgent realm to the spiritual world. Otherwise you can't get there.

So if we want to try to understand what is our link, our link we also have got disciplic succession. Srila Prabhupada used to refer to Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur as a Vaikuntha man. That means he was not from the material world. He was not actually from a Vaikuntha planet. He was not a devotee of Lord Visnu. Actually the confidential identity of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur - how many of you know? He is a manjari. I don't recall the name exactly but his name was known.

He was a manjari. Manjari means the maid servants of Radharani, who are primarily maid servants of Radharani more so than servants of Krishna. They are fully absorbed in service to Radharani. The chief of those manjaris is Sri Rupa Manjari. She is in charge of all manjaris. Her best friend is Rati Manjari. Rati Manjari is Sanatana Gosvami. Rupa Manjari descends as Rupa Goswami.

I know this is broadcast internationally through the internet. My friends in the United States have emailed me with feedback on the class given in Mayapur. It goes all over the world by internet. Incidentally my name Bhakti Madhurya Goswami was for those on the internet I was formerly known as Makanlall dasa, disciple of Srila Prabhupada since 1968.

So we are followers of Rupa Goswami. As far as people in the west are concerned you can say these days the ladies are very concerned about ladies movement in the west and they may sometimes challenge, "What about you Hare Krishnas, what is the role of women in the Hare Krishna Movement?" They  may say in the west, no so much in India or Asia but in the west they may say in a challenging way. "What is the role of women in the hare Krishna  Movement?"

So we can say, "They run the Hare Krishna Movement." How many of you agree? Who owns and operates all the devotees? Let me see a show of hands. Who owns and operates all the devotees? Srimati Radharani. She owns all the devotees. She also owns all the devotes in Vaikuntha. Vaikuntha is managed through the goddess of fortune, Her expansion. Here in the material world She has got this vast jurisdiction but the devotees work under Her. Why? Because She ishladini sakti, She is the internal potency.

Ther is no such thing as devotional service outside of Her jurisdiction. She is the original devotee and She is the best devotee. Just like Caitanya Mahaprabhu descendedjust to try to understand the mood of Srimati Radharani. Prabhupada makes it clear most of our acaryas are manjaris. Bhaktivinode Thakur is a manjari, SadGoswamis are manjaris. You understand why I said the movement is run by ladies? Radharani and Her manjaries are running this movement but They appeared for external reasons in male bodies as acaryas in the movement of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu is Radharani Herself. Krishna wanted to experience the mood of Radharani.

So we should try to understand not only Vaikuntha but in the time we have remaining, only a few minutes we should try to appreciate, try to understand what the position is of Srila Prabhupada. He is also mahajana. We know about the twelve mahajanas - Janaka; Bhisma; Prahlad; Bali Maharaja. There are twelve prominent mahajanas. We have to understand Prabhupada writes there are actually many more mahajanas, not just those twelve. There are many more mahajanas.

There are a few quotes here about what is mahajana. I just want to emphasis the Srila Prabhupada is also mahajana. This we have to understand. Prabhupada say, "A mahajana is a spiritual authority on the level of Brahma and Narada." He was speaking of Vidura although he was a human being. "Qualification on a par with the great demigods is possible only on attainment of spiritual perfection." [Purport of SB 1.9.45] was Srila Prabhupada on the path of spiritual perfection? How many of you agree? Some of you don't agree? I don't see your hands. Anybody disagrees? Attainment of the path of spiritual perfection that means mahajana.

"Bhismadeva was known all over the universes,"[Purport to SB 1.9.45] Prabhupada is also known all over the universes otherwise why do we sing: ebe jasa ghusuk tribhuvana [Sri-guru-vandana - from the Prema-bhakti-candrika ofSrila Narottama dasa Thakura] Tribhuvanath - you need to know what you are singing, ebe jasa ghusuk tribhuvana. Tri - like tripod - three - bhur, bhuva sva - upper, middle and lower planetary systems. Everyday all over the world we are singing but we should also meditate on the meaning that Srila Prabhupada is known all over the three worlds - bhur, bhuva and sva. [Claps]

The applause is not for me. The applause is for Prabhupada because that is the truth. It is a fact. If you tell a lie in front of the Deities you can go to hell. You have to be very careful of what you say in front of the Vaisnavas. You have to be careful of what you sat in front of the Deities. In the old days when there was some dispute let's say a business dispute and one business partner suspects the other business partner of lying or some customer feels he is cheated. In the old days they used to say, "All right let's go in front of the Dieties then you tell me the same thing." It used to be known that if you tell a lie in front of the Deity you will go to hell.

So I am declaring that Srila Prabhupada is Tribhuvanath. He is known in the upper, middle and lower planetary systems. If you think I am exaggerating please consider Prabhupada has written, I believe it is in the Caitanya-caritamrta that this Krishna consciousness movement will spread all over the universe. There is no time to elaborate on that but Srila Prabhupada makes this statement. It is not only in just this earth planet. And who gets the credit? It is Prabhupada who gets the credit. He is known in bhur, bhuva and sva just like Bali Maharaja is know and just like Bhismadev is known in the upper, middle and lower planetary systems.

Now Prabhupada is going on to Yamaraja who appeared as Vidura. "He was the incarnation of Yamaraja, one of the twelve mahajanas, on the level with suchexalted personalities as Brahma, Narada, Siva, Kapila, Bhisma, Prahlada, etc. Being a mahajana, it is the duty of Yamaraja to preach the cult of devotion to the people of the world, as Narada, Brahma, and other mahajanas do." [SB 1.13.15] Was Srila Prabhupada preaching throught the world, not only this world but all three worlds? He was preaching and still is preaching via the instruments of his books. So this is mahajana we have to understand.

" i spiritual knowledge, will be revealed within the core of a devotee's heart because of his having taken shelter of the lotus feet of a mahajana such as Prahlada Maharaja." [SB 7.7.17] So we all are in Prabhupada's line. He is the founder acarya. Bhakti Charu Swami gave a seminar here in Mayapur a few years back which I attended, on 'Srila Prabhupada the Founder acarya' - the meaning and significance of founder acarya, special heavy weight category.
I had personal experience in that regard. I became president in 1972, of a small temple in Middle Western United States. The first letter that I had written to Srila Prabhupada was to send some recommendations for initiations because that was the temple president's duty to recommend devotees for initiations. So I sent off a letter with recommendation for initiation. The response came back with chastisement. When I received the letter I noted  when Prabhupada wrote something you had to be ready for it." Your letterhead does not say founder acarya." I hadn't noticed. I didn't print the letterhead. I inherited the letterhead from a previous temple president. I hadn't noticed it did not say founder acraya. Prabhupada noticed big time. "Your letter head does not say A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami - Founder Acarya." Correct that.

Having received that direct order from Prabhupada I immediately had the letterhead reprinted. But I will be very, very honest with you at that time I couldn't understand. I will just be straightforward. I won't tell a lie. My mentality at that time was, "Why is Prabhupada making such a big deal about founder acarya." I couldn't understand. We know he is the founder acarya of Iskcon but why is he making such a big deal about it? Quietly I  said to myself. In other words I was silently offensive but I didn't say anything and I didn't write anything. I kept my mouth shut. I was silently offensive by wondering "What's the big deal?"

Now after Prabhupada's departure we find out it is huge, it is massive. Founder acarya is different. Bhakti Charu Swami is a great authority on this subject. He is a ion the subject of the position of founder acarya being distinctly different from other gurus, not the same. I only want to conclude by saying there are different levels of gurus, spiritual masters. As Rajendranandana Prabhu was speaking about the importance of spiritual master yesterday and of course this is clear from the sastra - the importance of a spiritual master. We also need to know there are different levels of spiritual masters.

The maha-bhagavata or the nitya siddha means the eternally liberated, who never came from this material world. Sadhana siddha means who worked their way up through saddhana bhakti and became a pure devotee. There is no time to elaborate on these things but pure devotee doesn't only mean maha-bhagavata or nitya siddha. Pure devotee means not only when fully self realized. It means who follows acarya carefully. Such a person can be calleda pure devotee.

In 1969, a long time ago, Los Angeles, California during Bhagavad-gita class during the question and answer period someone asked - he wasn't called Prabhupada as yet, "Swamiji how many pure devotees are there on the planet?" That is an important question. Prabhupada turned to Tamal Krishna Goswami, "How many disciples we have got?" In 1969, six months ago smoking marijuana, six months ago having illicit sex, drinking liquor and all these things. But no! He asked Tamal Krishna Maharaja, "How many disciples we have got?" That kind of credit he is giving. The broad scale pure devotee who follows theacarya. At the top of that pyramid like definition pure devotee means self realized soul.

It is a big word, pure devotee. Pure devotee is one who follows acarya carefully, who is chanting sixteen rounds, who rises early in the morning, who is hearing the Srimad-Bhagavatam, who is reading Prabhupada's books, who is preaching who is doing all these things, who comes to Bhagavatam classregularly. Such a person can be called a pure devotee but that is a broad definition. Prabhupada didn't mean that all his disciples are maha-bhagavatas. That is not what he meant. That wasn't the meaning of his statement, but if you follow then he was giving that much credit.

brahma-bhutah prasannatma, na socati na kanksati [Bg 18.54]
The brahma-bhuta platform, the transcendental platform, the spiritual platform. The only way to get to the spiritual platform is by following acarya. Whether one is directly initiated by Srila Prabhupada or is linked to the disciplic succession that is fine the link is there. Just like if somebody is drowning in the swift river and there is a chain of people that can reach out and catch that drowning person and you may not be highly qualified as a life saver but if you are in the link of persons and somebody can reach out and grab that person who is drowning and pull him that is called disciplic succession. Whoever is representing Srila Prabhupada is also in that bona fide line. Who is following? That is the point.

I have many other quotes which I would like to read but we are running out of time. Prabhupada says who can become a spiritual master, who knows the science of Krishna, who is following. The most important of all is who is following acarya carefully and not deviating from guru parampara they also can become spiritual master. That is Prabhupada's statement. But there are different kinds of guru. Founder acarya is special. Nitya siddha - Prabhupada descended from the spiritual world, from Goloka Vrindavana, that kind of devotee is most rare.

Prabhupada told more than one disciple, he told Bhavananda and somebody else, you know about that, "I was in the spiritual world with Krishna and Krishna asked me, 'I want you to go to the material world.'" Prabhupada said, "I don't want to go." Krishna replied, "You must go because I want you to write these books." So Prabhupada is an eternal resident of Vraj.

I will give you another example, 'Nectar of Devotion' How many of you have read 'Nectar of Devotion'? That is not too bad. Still only about 30%. So the others please read 'Nectar of Devotion'. 'Nectar of Devotion' says that you should meditate on an inhabitant of Vraj. So one young lady disciple asked, "Srila Prabhupada It says in 'Nectar of Devotion' we should meditate on a resident of Vrindavana but I like Nanda Maharaja, the gopis and the cowherd boys so I am not so clear on whom I should meditate on."

Then like thunder and lightning, far surpassing thunder and lightning of Indra Prabhupada said, "I am that resident of Vrindavan." Ki! Jai! Srila Prabhupada Ki! Jai! Nitya siddha maha-bhagavata Srila Prabhupada Ki! Jai! Nitai-gaura-premanande! Hari-haribol! Anybody has any questions?

Prabhu: Hare Krishna Maharaja. Thank you very much for the nice class that you just gave. My question is if you can become a spiritual master even if follow strictly except you don't follow the institution, can you become a guru?
HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: What are you going to do? Become our own guru?

Prabhu: Yes.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: What is your qualification?

Prabhu: I am a Srila Prabhupada disciple so I can follow.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: You are a Prabhupada disciple?

Prabhu: No I am giving you an example.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Bhagavad-gita says,
tad viddhi pranipatena, pariprasnena sevayaupadeksyanti te jnanam, jnaninas tattva-darsinah [Bg 4.34]

You have to approach a bona fide spiritual master and you have to enquire. Even reading Prabhupada's books still some sadhu sanga is required. I will give you an example. A very powerful Prabhu, he is now an initiating spiritual master in Iskcon, a disciple of Prabhupada, he is GBC for South America and so forth, he has said that before he came in contact with devotees he was actually reading Srila Prabhupada's books and they had a sort of club with all sorts of sanga. They were a group of admirers of Krishna consciousness who were reading Prabhupada's books and he admits he read many of Prabhupada's books but they made all kinds of false conclusions and philosophical mistakes. He admits they had a nice club of devotees but he admits they were making all kinds of philosophical errors. Why? Because they didn't have guidance.

Guru means guidance actually, either directly or through representatives. I am using Prabhupada's own statements for example because one cannot just read and become a self appointed guru. No. You can't find that. Everyone has got guru throughout the Srimad-Bhagavatam. You won't find any instance of any acarya, even when Krishna appears; Krishna and Balarama have got guru. They are God but They are taking Sandi Pani Muni as guru. Everyone is taking guru you see. That is why you cannot become self appointed guru. That is not possible.

Prabhu: There is one purport in Srimad-Bhagavatam where Srila Prabhupada says, "Anyone who is trying to be aloof from this Krishna Consciousness Society and yet engage in Krishna consciousness is living in a great hallucination, for this is not possible."[SB 4.9.11]

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Hallucination! So we have to be very careful.

Prabhu; With regard to this last statement about being Krishna conscious outside the institution Srila Prabhupada said at the incorporation of Iskcon, this is a statement of Acyutananda Prabhu who was present at that time that if the institution has reverses you renounce the institution and continue chanting Hare Krishna.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: About the institution Prabhupada said, "Iskcon is my body." Iskcon is an institution but Prabhupada said it is my body. So there is no difference between the institution of Iskcon and Prabhupada's body. Sometimes there may be pimples on the body. [Laughter] Sometimes there may be some problem with the body, some meningitis, there may be problems with the body but we cannot throw out Prabhupada's statement, "Iskcon is my body." We have to see the institution, by participating in the institution that we are participating in Srila Prabhupada. This is required actually.

There are other exalted Vaisnavas outside of Iskcon. That is all right but there are also differences. There are different ways of doing things and some of the institutions have a different Tulasi puja mantra, the mangal arati prayers are different, so many things are different. So as far as siksa and diksa is concerned we are supposed to stick, we are supposed to be Prabhupadanugas, we are supposed to stay within Prabhupada's line if we want to get the full benefit from Srila Prabhupada's teachings.

Prabhu: Regarding getting the credit for the spreading of Krishna consciousness all over the universe, we should get more credit than Srila Prabhupada for this. What is your opinion?

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Others will get credit for spreading throughout the universe but those that are honest will accept that Srila Prabhupada is the foremost pioneer. I will give you an example. There is Prabhupada's godbrother Sridhar Maharaja and his chosen successor is Govinda Maharaja. He used to always give full credit to Srila Prabhupada in his lectures. He didn't call him Prabhupada, he called him Swami Maharaja. "He broke open a hole in the nirvisesa sunyavadi, he broke open and I am just taking the remnants." So that honest is there.

Others will get credit. We are not misers. Others will get credit but where will the lion's share go? Who pioneered, who had the guts and who came to the west when others feared that they would fall down if they crossed the ocean - because that saying is there in scripture that if you cross the ocean you will fall down. So many Vaisnavas feared that statement from the scripture. The point is yes they will get credit in the wake of Srila Prabhupada.

Prabhu: I appreciate your sentiments but what you are saying is wrong because it contradicts the statement of Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Goswami in the Caitanya-caritamrta where he says that, "After the disappearance of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, some of the branches, for unfortunate reasons, deviated from His path."[Adi 12.68]
"Some branches did not accept the original trunk that vitalized and maintained the entire tree." [Adi 12.68]

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Some of the branches, I mean Advaita Acarya for example one of his sons went mad - so to speak - and so there were some branches coming after Mahaprabhu that deviated. Others we see continued properly within parampara.

Prabhu: That verse Caitanya Mahaprabhu is nourishing and vitalizing the entire tree so He should get the most credit.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: You won't find anywhere in the sastra where the acarya is not given the credit by Krishna and by Mahaprabhu. You won't find that credit going only to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Prabhu: No I am not saying that. I am saying.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: For example Krishna said I think it is in the Siva Purana I could be mistaken, Krishna says, "Those who say they are My devotees they are not My devotees but those who are the devotees of My devotees, they are the real devotees." That is Krishna's statement.

Prabhu: Maharaja when you made the statement in class that the credit goes to Srila Prabhupada for spreading Krishna consciousness all over theuniverse,

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Yes it is also in the Caitanya-mangala.

Prabhu: the thought comes to mind that Narada Muni is also preaching Krishna consciousness throughout the universe.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: That is okay. It is interesting that you mentioned that because in the Caitanya-mangala by Locana dasa Thakura there is  a conversation between Narada and Krishna. In that conversation between Narada and Krishna, Narada goes to Krishna in complete anxiety. He says, "In Kaliyuga, hopeless situation, total darkness what is going to happen. They have no chance, they are lost, they are doomed. What to do?" Krishna says, "I am going to send my general [Applause] who will spread My holy name to foreign countries." Prabhupada was the first to do that. Others yes that is fine. I am not trying to say there is completion between Narada Muni and Prabhupada. There is no completion. Prabhupada often spoke about the whole parampara and existing acaryas. Narada Muni is an eternal spaceman. He is still alive. There is no completion. That is not the point. We are all under Narada Muni certainly.

Prabhu: Thank you. As Srila Prabhupada said in the question and answer part in Bhagavatam is like istagosti, discussing the points there. So another example for your consideration: The leading disciples of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur say that he went to the moon planet to spread Krishna consciousness. One time on a morning walk on this road out here he looked up at the moon and said, 'Just see even Kali yuga is spreading on the moon planet." And the disciples on the morning walk their understanding was that he was saying he wanted to go preach Krishna consciousness there. If that is true then the statement that Prabhupada gets credit for spreading Krishna consciousness everywhere in the universe - although the mood is wonderful in glorifying the spiritual master but whether or not Srila Prabhupada gets the credit of spreading Krishna consciousness everywhere in the universe that is something to i

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: Well the thing is that he is also tribhuvanath - ebe yasa ghusuk tribhuvana, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur also, Bhaktivinode Thakur also but the thing is Prabhupada speaks in the future tense in that particular purport. He speaks in the future tense, this Krishna consciousness movement will spread all over the universe. In future tense. Once again there is no competition between Prabhupada and Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur. He said, "I am just the humble servant of my Guru Maharaj." So there is not some competition going on but the credit  goes to Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur  or the empowerment of Srila Prabhupada to bring on this work an future generations in our line and other Vaisnavas are completing all this work. It is a vast work but he said, "Will spread." He did not say has already spread.

About Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur preaching on the moon, I cannot say. If the disciples say then that is one thing but I have not heard before but he is also famous in all the three worlds.

Prabhu: Regarding Srila Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur preaching on the moon planet how can this be harmonized with the statement of a disciple of Srila Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, Candrasekhara Prabhu. He states the Srila Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur said he will come back and he will preach in Vrindavan and South India, install deities of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and reclaim his lost men, disciples from the planet.

In Gaudiya Vaisnavism we take the direct meaning of the verse of Caitanya Mahaprabhu in this discussion with Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur. So the direct meaning is that he will reclaim those disciples whom he initiated during his manifested pastimes in the icentury. That means he should be appearing around this time. So I am just sayingi.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: The short version of this comment please Prabhu.

Prabhu: He is giving a quote saying that Bhaktsiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur will come to reclaim fallen disciples, past disciples.

HH Bhakti Madhurya Swami: It is all right. We don't have a problem with that statement. It does not mean i That is standard procedure with the guru when he initiates. He may have to come back again. Prabhupada said to his disciples, "Don't make me come back again." Citing Bivamangala Thakurs example he said don't make him come back like that, who had to be preached to by a prostitute who was representing guru. We don't want to put that kind of force on guru that he has to come back. We have to end now. If you want to discuss more we can discuss privately. Thank you very much. Jagat guru Srila Prabhupada Ki! Jai! Srimad-Bhagavatam Ki! Jai! [Applause]

Final GBC Meeting report

GBC AGM- Final Day of 2011 AGM

Friday, March 3rd marked the final day of the 2011 Annual General Meeting  (AGM) for the Governing Body Commission (GBC) of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Along with discussing sannyasa candidates, the day involved a presentation on the Midday Meal project in India and a special visit by the students of the Sri Mayapur International School.

Radha Krishna dasa traveled all of the way to Mayapur from the Radha-Gopinath temple in Mumbai to present the outstanding achievements of the Midday Meal project. The Midday Meal project, implemented by ISKCON’s Food Relief Foundation, strives to alleviate two major issues that thousands of Indian children face—hunger and a lack of education.

Although education is compulsory for children between the ages of six and fourteen according to the Indian government, the reality is that  many underprivileged children within that age group still do not attend school. The reason is that a large socio-economic stratum of the population feels that their children should spend their day earning money for their family instead of gaining a formal education. To counteract the situation, the Government of India established lunch programs in all public schools so that any child who attends school receives at least one hot meal a day. The result has been successful. Because of the free meal, many families living in poverty now opt to send their children to school, rather than to work. Simply put, the school lunches decrease the financial needs of the family in terms of feeding their children. It is, however, a challenge to cook, deliver, and serve meals to the hundreds of thousands of children every day in schools across India.

The Midday Meal project is markedly successful in meeting this challenge. Inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s desire that “No one within a ten-mile radius of an ISKCON Centre should go hungry,” members of ISKCON, such as Radha Krishna dasa, formed to specifically address the need for children to receive a healthy and nutritious meal while also receiving an education.

In 2004, the first lunches provided by Midday Meal were served. Within six months of operation, over one million meals were distributed to schoolchildren in various parts of India. Over the years, the project has considerably grown in scope and reputation. Today, over 850,000 children are fed from eighteen centers in eight states per day. Such distribution adds up to 255 tons of food per day and 355 plates of lunch served every minute. Moreover, all meals are cooked in kitchens with a notably high standard of cleanliness certified by American Systems Registrar (ASR).

In addition to helping thousands of children in India receive on a daily basis the nutrition and education they need, the Midday Meal project has greatly developed ISKCON’s relationship with the Government of India. Government officials are impressed and thankful for ISKCON’s service, and consider the Midday Meal project an exemplary program for feeding the school children of India. In reciprocation, the Government has eliminated all road tax associated with the Midday Meal delivery trucks and has allowed all donations to ISKCON’s Food Relief Foundation to be tax exempt. If you would like to help support or learn more about the Midday Meal project, please visit

Following the Midday Meal presentation, GBC members warmly welcomed a visit from more than thirty students of Sri Mayapur International School (SMIS).The Sri Mayapur International School provides a rich devotional atmosphere for students from around the world to study and cultivate Krishna  consciousness and receive an internationally recognized and certified standard of education. Grade levels range from primary to high school, and SMIS provides both day school and boarding options.

After an introduction and upon invitation, students raced to sit in the seats surrounding the GBC conference room table. A microphone was passed around the table for all of the students to introduce themselves by name and where they are from. The number of countries represented was impressive. At the end of this special event, all of the SMIS students were served slices of cheesecake on behalf of the GBC. For more information on the Sri Mayapur International School, please visit

The 2011 AGM concluded after twelve full days of meetings, four of which were spent specifically on strategic planning. A range of topics were presented and discussed—from updates on the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium construction to ways in which we can better care for ISKCON’s current members, to cultivating and training future ISKCON leaders. GBC committees will continue to work diligently throughout the year, and next October the GBC body will meet again in Juhu, Mumbai.

Was Prophet Muhammad in the Vedas?

Was Prophet Muhammad in the  Vedas?

Starting  With the Rig-Veda

In this article we will take a look at some of the verses in  the Vedas that some people, such as Dr. Zakir  Naik, say that Mohammed is mentioned or foretold in  them. This is a summary based on the research by Dr Radhasyam Brahmachari and others,  and shows that these verses in fact do not speak of Prophet Mohammed, but are  used in a way that is based on mistranslations to justify that idea.

First of all, the Rig-Veda is globally recognized and  accepted as the oldest book created by man and hence if it could be shown that  there is mentioning of Prophet Mohammed in that text, it will be immensely  helpful to paint the Arabian Prophet as a divine personality. Not only that, it will be helpful to deceive the Hindus and convert them to Islam. So, it does not become difficult to understand what has inspired Dr Zakir Naik and  others to discover  the mentioning of Mohammed in the Rig-Veda and in other Vedic texts. But  as his investigation culminated into a failure, he had no other way but to apply  stupid  arguments to befool the kafirs and infidels but  to twist the meanings and translations into something different, all the while  acting most scholarly and convincing.

First of all, we should see what  the Rig-Veda actually says about Prophet Muhammad. It should also be  mentioned at the outset that two Sanskrit words sa•sata and narasa•sa play the central role in these arguments of  such people as Zakir Naik.  According to him, the word sa•sata stands for  an individual who praises. In Arabic, such an individual is called Ahammad,  the other name of Prophet Muhammad. Therefore,  wherever he could find the word sa• sata, he  took it as the mentioning of their Prophet.

According to him, the second word narasa•sa means an individual who is to be praised or  who is praiseworthy. The Arabic word Muhammad means a man  who is praiseworthy.  So, wherever he could have found the word narasa•sa in any Sanskrit texts, he took it to be a  mentioning of Muhammad. In fact, both the Sanskrit words sa•sata and narasa•sa stand for a deity or God, who is  praiseworthy. According to Sayana, the most reputed commentator of the Vedas, the word narasa•sa means a deity or a respectable entity (not a man) that deserves to be praised by man.

However, we should have a  closer look to see what Zakir Naik has to say. According to him, the verses (1/13/3),  (1/18/9), (1/106/4), (1/142/3), (2/3/2), (5/5/2), (7/2/2), (10/64/3) and  (10/182/2) of the Rig-Veda contain the word narasa•sa, and hence mention Muhammad, and the verse  (8/1/1) of the Rig-Veda contains the word sa•sata (Ahmmad), or the  other name of Muhammad. So here he begins with another blatant lie and says that  the word sa•sata stands for a man who praises, the Arabic equivalent of Ahammad and hence mentions Muhammad. The said verse (8/1/1)  of the Rig-Veda reads:

Ma cidanyadvi sa•sata sakhayo ma risnyata lIndramitstot a vrsana• saca sute muhuruktha ca sa•sata ll (8/1/1)
“Glorify naught besides, O friends; so  shall no sorrow trouble you. Praise only mighty Indra  when the juice is shed, and say your lauds repeatedly.” (Translation: R T H Griffith; The Hymns of the Rgveda, Motilal Banarsidass Publishers, Delhi; 1995, p-388). So the  word sa•sata (praiseworthy) in the above verse  refers to deity Indra, and not a man who praises  (Ahammad) as claimed by Dr Zakir Naik.

We shall now  see what the verses containing the word narasa•sa say. In Rig-Veda, a verse is refered as (x/y/z), where x stands for Mandala, y stands for Sukta and z  stands for the Verse or Rk. The verse (1/13/3) of Rig-Veda, as mentioned above, belongs to 13th Sukta of the 1st Mandala. It should also be noted here that every Sukta of the  Rig-Veda is dedicated to a deity. The presiding deity of the 13th Sukta of the 1st Mandala is Agni (the God of Fire). The verse says:

Narasa•samiha priyamasminajna upahvaye  lMadhujihvat haviskrtam  ll (1/13/3)
“Dear Narasa•sa, sweet of tongue, the giver of oblations, I invoke  to this our sacrifice.” (tr:  ibid, p-7) As Agni is the deity of the entire  13th Sukta, there is no doubt that the word narasa•sa (praiseworthy to man) in the verse refers  to Agni. One should also note that the word narasa•sa does not signify a man who is praiseworthy,  as some people claim.

The verse (1/18/9) of the Rig-Veda  says:Narasa•sa• sudhrstamamapasyam saprathastam  lDivo na sadmakhasam ll (1/18/9)

“I  have seen Narasa•sa, him most resolute, most widely  famed, as ‘twere the Household Priest of heaven.”  (tr: ibid, p-11) The 18th Sukta, to which the verse  belongs, is dedicated to Brahmanaspati, the Priest of  heaven and hence the word narasa•sa  (praiseworthy to man) in this verse refers to Brahmanaspati, the Priest of heaven.

The verse  (1/106/4) of the Rig-Veda says:Narasa•sa• vajin• vajayinniha ksayadvira• pusana• summairi mahe l Ratha• nadurgadvasava sudanavo visvasmanno aha•so nispipartana ll (1/106/4)

“To mighty Narasa•sa, strengthening his might, to Pusana, ruler over men, we pray with hymns. Even as a  chariot from a difficult ravine, bountiful Vasus,  rescue us from all distress.” (tr: ibid, p-69) The 106th Sukta of 1st Mandala, to which the verse belongs, is dedicated to the  Visvadevas, and hence the word narasa•sa (praiseworthy to man) in this verse refers  to the Visvadevas, again not to Mohammed.

The  verse (1/142/3) of the Rig-Veda says:suci pavako adbhuto madhva yajna• mimiksati lnarasa•sasthrira divo devo devesu yajniyah ll (1/142/3)

“He  wondrous, sanctifying, bright, sprinkles the sacrifice with mead, thrice, Narasa•sa from the heavens, a God amid Gods adorable.”  (tr: ibid, p-98)The 142nd Sukta, to which the verse  belongs, is dedicated to the deity Apri , and hence the  word narasa•sa in this verse refers to Apri. Most of the scholars agree that Apri is the other name of Agni and  hence the word nar asa•sa in this verse refers  to Agni, the god of fire.

The verse (2/3/2) of  the Rig-Veda says:Narasa•sah prati dhamanyanjan tisro div prati mahna svarcih lGhrtaprusa manasa havyamundanmurdhanyajnasya sanamaktu devan ll (2/3/2)

“May Narasa•sa  lighting up the chambers, bright in his majesty through threefold heaven,  steeping the gift with oil diffusing purpose, bedew the  Gods at chiefest time of worship.” (tr: ibid, p- 132) Like the earlier one, 142nd Sukta  of 1st Mandal, this present 3rd Sukta of 2nd Mandala, is dedicated  to the deity Apri or Agni  and hence the word narasa•sa in this verse  refers to Agni the Fire God.

The Verse (5/5/2)  of Rig-Veda says:Narasa•sah susudatim• yajnamadabhyah  lKavirhi madhuhastah  ll (5/5/2)
“He, Narasa•sa, ne’er beguiled, inspireth this sacrifice; for sage is he, with sweets in  hand.” (tr: ibid, p- 240) This 5th Sukta of 5th Mandala is also dedicated to Apri  or Agni and hence the word narasa•sa in this verse refers to Agni the Fire God.

The verse (7/2/2) of  Rig-Veda says:Narasa•sasya mahimanamesamupa  stosama yajatasya yajnaih lYe sukratavah sucayo dhiyandhah svadanti deva ubhayani havya ll (7/2/2)

“With sacrifice to these we men will  honor the majesty of holy Narasa•sa – to these the  pure, most wise, the thought-inspires, Gods who enjoy both sorts of our  oblations.” (tr: ibid, p-  334) Again this 2nd Sukta of 7th Mandala is dedicated to Apri or  Agni, and hence the word narasa•sa in this verse refers to Agni the Fire God.

The verse (10/64/3) of the  Rig-Veda says:Nara  va sa•sa• pusnamagohyamagni deveddhamabhyarcase gira  lSuryamasa candramasa  yama• divi trita• vatamusasamaktumasvina  ll (10/64/3)

“To Narasa•sa and Pusan I sing forth,  unconcealable Agni kindled  by the Gods. To Sun and Moon, two Moons, to Yama in the heaven, to Trita,  Vata, Dawn, Night and Asvins  Twain.” (tr: ibid, p-  578) This 64th Sukta of 10th Mandala is dedicated to the Visvadevas, and the word narasa•sa in this verse refers to the Visvadevas.

The verse (10/182/2) of Rig-Veda  says:Narasa•so na avatu prayaje sa• no astvanuyajo habesu lKsipadastimapa durmati hannatha karadyajamanaya sam soh ll (10/182/2).

“May Narasa•sa aid us at Prayaja; blest  be out Anuyaja at invokings. May he repel the curse, and chase ill-feeling, and give the sacrificer peace and comfort.” (tr: ibid, p- 650) The 182nd Sukta of 10th Mandala, to which the above verse belongs, is dedicated to  Vrhaspati, and hence the word narasa•sa refers to Vrhaspati, the Priest of the Gods.
Another verse  (1/53/9) of the Rig-Veda says,Tvametanjanarajno dvirdasabandhuna  susravasopajagmasah lsasti• sahasra navati• nava sruto ni cakrena rathya duspada vrnak ll(1/53/9)

“With  all-outstripping chariot-wheel, O Indra, thou  far-famed, hast overthrown the twice ten Kings of men, with sixty thousand  nine-and-ninety followers, who came in arms to fight with friendless Susravas.” (tr: ibid, p-36) To narrate the incident, Sayana,  the renowned commentator of the Rig-Veda, says that twenty kings with a  force, 60,099 strong, attacked the King Sus rava (Prajapati) and Indra alone  defeated them and frustrated their ambition (the Vayu-Purana also narrates the incident).

Most  of the scholars agree that the Rig-Veda was composed more than 5000 years  BCE, and hence the incident narrated in the verse (1/53/9) took place more than  7000 years ago. And Muhammad conquered Mecca in 630 AD. But Zakir Naik has proceeded to link  the incident with Muhammad’s capturing  Mecca, which any sane man, except a  Muslim, would feel shy to undertake. To give his mischief a shape, he has,  firstly replaced the word Susrava withSusrama and says that the word Susrama stands for one who praises, and hence equivalent to  Ahammad in Arabic, the other name of Muhammad. And he  claims that the verse narrates Muhammad’s conquering Mecca, as the then  population of the city was about 60,000 and Muhammad had invaded Mecca with 20  of his closest followers. It is not difficult for the reader to discover the absurdity of this claim and the deceit involved with making it.

The verse  (8/6/10) of the Rig-Veda says,Ahamiddhi  pituspari medhamrtasya jagrabha lAha• surya ivajrani ll (8/6/10)

“I from my  Father have received deep knowledge of the Holy Law: I was born like unto the  Sun.” (Tr: ibid, p- 396). In this verse the word  ahamiddhi stands for “I have received.” But as the word spells like Ahammad, the other name of  Muhammad, Zakir Naik claims that the verse mentions Muhammad, which shows how he is prone to error on account of his Islamic bias.

Thus we have studied all the verses of the  Rig-Veda which, according to Naik, mention  Muhammad. It has been said above that the Sanskrit word narasa• sa stands for a deity or God who is  praiseworthy to man, but not a man who is praiseworthy to other men, which is  what Naik claims. So, according to this kind of  childish logic, whenever someone uses the word “praiseworthy,” it should be  taken granted that he mentions Prophet Muhammad. But that is far from the truth.

However, the intellectual level of those who try to use these techniques of mistranslations are revealed when they try to do the same thing with the word  narasa•sa in other Vedas, like Atharva-Veda and Yajur-Veda and is again projecting them to be  mentioning Prophet Muhammad. Though it is sheer wastage of time to deal with the  utterances of such insane people as this, we may discuss these matters more  thoroughly in the future. In the meantime, many are those who are realizing the  confusing and inaccurate conclusions such as these and are losing confidence in  such people who depend on this kind of tactic, as they also become an  embarrassment to the religion they represent.

Debunking the Atharva-Veda Connection Atharva-Veda, HYMN CXXVIIA hymn in  praise of the good Government of King Kaurama

1 Listen  to this, ye men, a laud of glorious bounty shall be sung. Thousands sixty, and ninety we, O Kaurama,  among the Rusamas have received.

2 Camels  twice-ten that draw the car, with females by their side, he  gave. Fain would the chariot's top bow down escaping from the  stroke of heaven.

3 A  hundred chains of gold, ten wreaths, upon thee Rishi  he bestowed, And thrice-a-hundred mettled steeds, ten-times-a-thousand cows he gave.

4 Glutthee, O Singer, glut thee like a bird on a ripe-fruited  tree. Thy lips and tongue move swiftly like the sharp blades of a  pair of shears.

5 Quickly and willingly like kine forth  come the singers and their hymns: Their little maidens are at  home, at home they wait upon the cows.

6 O  Singer, bring thou forth the hymn that findeth cattle,  findeth wealth. p. 364 Even as  an archer aims his shaft address this prayer unto the  Gods.

7 List  to Pariksit’s eulogy, the sovran whom all people love, The King who  ruleth over all, excelling mortals as a God.

8 'Mounting his throne, Pariksit, best of  all, hath given us peace and rest,' Saith a Kauravya to his wife as he  is ordering his house.

9 'Which  shall I set before thee, curds, gruel of milk, or  barley-brew?' Thus the wife asks her husband in the realm which  King Pariksit rules.

10 Up as  it were to heavenly light springs the ripe corn above the  cleft. Happily thrive the people in the  land where King Pariksit reigns.

11 Indra hath waked the bard and said, Rise, wander singing  here and there. Praise me, the strong: each pious man will give  thee riches in return,

12 Here,  cows! increase and multiply, here ye, O horses, here, O  men. Here, with a thousand rich rewards, doth Pushan also seat him-self.

13 O  Indra, let these cows be safe, their master free from  injury. Let not the hostile-hearted or the robber have control of  them.

14 Oft  and again we glorify the hero with our hymn of praise, with prayer, with our  auspicious prayer.Take pleasure in the songs we sing: let evil  never fall on us. This hymn is merely a praise of King Kaurama (probably of Rajasthani origin). Some people, like Zakir Naik, have tried to twist this to mean that the first 13  verses tell the story of Mohammed! “Kaurama”  actually means “ born of a noble family” and has nothing to do with referring to  Mohammed. It is closely related with the term Kaurava.  And “Kuntapa” merely means the internal organs  in the belly and has no alternate meaning as “safe journey” or as such. Sanskrit  words aren’t as multi-layered as Arab words. All the verses in the Atharva-Veda from 126-133 are considered Kuntapa, but only one mentions a desert.
The Sama-Veda ConnectionSome people (and you can guess who) think that the  Sama-Veda, Book II, Hymn6, verse 8,  refers to Mohammed. The verse -

1. Indra whose jaws are strong hath drunk of worshipping Sudaksha’s draught, The Soma  juice with barley brew.

2. O Lord of ample wealth, these songs of praise have  called aloud to thee, Like milch-kine lowing to their calves!

3. Then straight they  recognized the mystic name of the creative Steer, There in the mansion of the Moon.

4. When Indra, strongest hero, brought the streams, the mighty  waters down, Pushan was  standing by his side.

5. The Cow, the streaming mother of the liberal Maruts, pours her milk, Harnessed to draw their chariots on.

6. Come, Lord of  rapturous joys, to our libation with thy bay steeds, come With bay steeds to the flowing juice

7. Presented  strengthening gifts have sent Indra away at  sacrifice, With night, unto the cleansing  bath.

8. I from my Father have received deep knowledge of eternal Law: I was born like unto the Sun.

9. With Indra splendid feasts be ours, rich in all strengthening  things, wherewith, Wealthy in food, we may  rejoice

10. Soma and Pushan, kind to him who  travels to the Gods, provide Dwellings all happy and secure.
So some  people say that verse eight says “Ahmed acquired from his Lord the knowledge of  eternal law. I received light from him just as from the sun.” Then they  associate the word as Ahmed to be Mohammed. But let us understand the verse  accurately.

In these verses, Indra is  strengthened with Soma sacrifice and the Priests cry out for Indra’s arrival. The priests recognize the name of the creative Seer - the personification Soma, there in the mansion of the moon - which in Vedic symbolism, resembles a drop of Soma.  Next, Indra’s legendary battle with Viritra the dragon who holds back the waters of the Earth is reflected and it is seen how Indra brings the streams  towards Earth with Pushan by his side. The description  of a cow pouring forth her milk is also given and is thought akin to Indra’s action. Then, the priests once again call to Indra as the lord of joy to give his strengthening gifts to  Soma and Indra  doing so,  fades away. The Priests partake in the Soma and receive knowledge of the eternal  law - the law that governs nature (no Law in the ‘ Jurisdiction’ sense) and share  a feeling of warmth as if they were born unto the Sun. Once again, the Soma is  praised for its strengthening qualities. Soma the personification and Pushan thus travel to the Gods.

Soma is a  non-intoxicant juice from a certain vine that is burnt in Vedic rituals and the  leftover remnants are eaten. This is not done anymore because nobody knows what  the Soma plant is (presumed extinct). The Soma plant is renown for its strengthening properties and is drunk before  war. Indrais a deity especially fond of Soma.
So the conclusion for this verse from the Sama-Veda is that there is no place for any  “Ahmed” in this verse either storywise or literarywise. Adding “ Ahmed” here is saying the  grammatically incorrect (the Veda is gramatically  perfect) – “Ahmed have received.” And besides, it is akin to saying Mohammed  himself did the ritual to Indra’s glory, and partook  in the leftovers and knew the Sharia - which is once  again akin to idolatry for Muslims. The phrase “I from my father” seems second  most likely (it refers to the Priests receiving knowledge from “Soma” about the  Eternal Law) but the most likely seems to be Aham +  Atha. It would translate the sentence to – “I now have  received the eternal law.”

We could go on like this, and other people have, and compare additional verses  from the Vedas to show how by mistranslations, people have tried to place  references to Prophet Mohammed in them, thus misleading the public into thinking  that the Vedic literature was advocating and giving credence or even prophecies  to the Prophet Mohammed, but no such honest references can be found therein. It  is another trick, the type of which is becoming increasingly common in order to  persuade people to drop out of the Dharmic spiritual  path and to convert to something else.

Such trickery is only successful with those who are under-educated in the Vedic  philosophy, and are used by those who still lack genuine spiritual depth that  can itself attract people. When that is missing, then they have to resort to all  kinds of deceit and trickery, or worse, such as types of violence and attacks,  to show the superiority of their religion. This is a pathetic technique but  seems to be the last resort of those religions who especially want to gain  popularity without showing a truly deep and sacred and enlightening spiritual  path that is meant solely for the upliftment of the individual and society in general, rather than control through dogma and peer pressure and status from a growing congregation.

Verse: 4:12:37

Speaker: HH Bhakti Marg Swami

santah sama-drsah suddhah

yanty anjasacyuta-padam

TRANSLATION: Persons who are peaceful, equipoised, cleansed and purified, and who know the art of pleasing all other living entities, keep friendship only with devotees of the Lord; they alone can very easily achieve the perfection of going back home, back to Godhead.

PURPORT: The description of this verse fully indicates that only devotees are eligible to enter into the kingdom of Godhead. The first point stated is that devotees are peaceful, for they have no demands for their personal sense gratification. They are simply dedicated to the service of the Lord. Karmis cannot be peaceful because they have immense demands for sense gratification. As for jnanis, they cannot be peaceful because they are too busy trying to attain liberation or merge into the existence of the Supreme. Similarly, yogis are also restless to get mystic power. But a devotee is peaceful because he is fully surrendered to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thinks of himself as completely helpless; just as a child feels complete peace in depending on the parent, so a devotee is completely peaceful, for he depends on the mercy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

A devotee is equipoised. He sees everyone on the same transcendental platform. A devotee knows that although a conditioned soul has a particular type of body according to his past fruitive activities, factually everyone is part of the Supreme Lord. A devotee sees all living entities with spiritual vision and does not discriminate on the platform of the bodily concept of life. Such qualities develop only in the association of devotees. Without the association of devotees, one cannot advance in Krishna consciousness. Therefore, we have established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Factually, whoever lives in this society automatically develops Krishna consciousness.

Devotees are dear to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead is only dear to devotees. On this platform only can one make progress in  Krishna consciousness. Persons in Krishna consciousness, or devotees of the Lord, can please everyone, as is evident in the Krishna consciousness movement. We invite everyone, without discrimination; we request  everyone to sit down and chant the Hare Krishna mantra and take as much prasada as wecan supply, and thus everyone is pleased with us. This is the qualification.

Sarva-bhutanuranjanah. As for purification, no one can be more pure than devotees. Anyone who once utters the name of Visnu immediately becomes purified, inside and outside (yah smaret pundarikaksam). Since a devotee constantly chants the Hare Krishna mantra, no contamination of the material world can touch him. He is, therefore, actually purified. Muci haya suci haya yadi krsna bhaje. It is said that even a cobbler or person born in the  family of a  obbler can be elevated to the position of a brahmana (suci) if he takes to Krishna consciousness. Any person who is purely Krishna conscious and who engages in chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is the purest in the whole universe. [End of Srila Prabhupada's purport to SB 4.12.37]

HH Bhakti Marg Swami: This particular part of the Srimad Bhagavatam is a very nice wrap up of the lila of Dhruva Maharaja who is one of the heroes that we find in the Bhagavata Purna, Srimad-Bhagavatam. I recall about seven years ago when I went to South Africa - I go there every year for the fabulous  Ratha-yatra and we put together a drama about Dhruva and I asked for a cast of the local people, the Zulu folks. So the devotees had arranged that we had the indigenous devotees be the cast members and we did the whole story of Dhruva the Zulu style. All the actors were dressed in Zulu attire, skins and all and we just did the whole story pretty much verbatim as it is here but with a Zulu curve to it. We had so much fun and I got to understand and appreciate from this exercise that the universal truths that we find in Srimad-Bhagavatam can be found in all cultures of the world.

It was interesting in the Zulu tradition, we used some of their nomenclature, their name for God is and I hope I can pronounce it properly - Umkulukulu. Umkulukulu means, referring to God, He who has the greatest wealth of powers. Then there is the counterpart or the arch enemy of God who  I guess can be converted and the name of that person, name of the devil or Satan is Tokoloshe can you say that? Tokoloshe. It is good to know that so if you ever go to that part of the world you know what you are supposed to avoid. Tokolokshe or maya or Satan or whatever nomenclature you want to use can be found anywhere and everywhere. What is nice about Dhruva and the story of Dhruva is that we can relate to him because it is a story of transformation.

Dhruva Maharaja was a young boy and he was a victim of abuse. Normal story. He was abused by his step mother and also his biological father. His mother was not very nice. Most ladies are nice and most people are nice but some are not. So his step mother Suruci said something that was quite evil to the core and she and of course and the father can be charged for big time child abuse, psychological child abuse.

When Dhruva, a five year old kid was just trying to play with his dad his step mom stopped him and said, "You can't do this. You cannot climb onto the lap of [End of recording]

parastad yad dhruva-gatir

visnoh padam athabhyagat

TRANSLATION: Dhruva Maharaja thus surpassed the seven planetary systems of the great sages who are known as saptarsi. Beyond that region, he achievedthe transcendental situation of permanent life in the planet where Lord Visnu lives.

PURPORT: The airplane was piloted by the two chief associates of Lord Visnu, namely Sunanda and Nanda. Only such spiritual astronauts can pilot their airplane beyond the seven planets and arrive in the region of eternal blissful life. It is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita also (paras tasmat tu bhavo 'nyah [Bg. 8.20]) that beyond this planetary system begins the spiritual sky, where everything is permanent and blissful. The planets there are known as Visnuloka or Vaikunthaloka. Only there can one get an eternal blissful life of knowledge. Below Vaikunthaloka is the material universe, where Lord Brahma and others in Brahmaloka can live until the annihilation of this universe; but that life is not permanent. That is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita (abrahma-bhuvanal lokah). Even if one goes to the topmost planet, one cannot achieve eternal life. Only by arriving in Vaikunthaloka can one live an eternally blissful life. [End of Srila Prabhupada's purport to SB 4.12.35]

HG Rajendranandana Prabhu: In this verse and purport, the purport specifically we are getting to hear about the material world and the spiritual world. If someone has no understanding or has not been introduced to Krishna consciousness then there needs to be a little bit of a foundation laid out so you can understand what we are talking about - material world, spiritual world. Srila Prabhupada is so many classes again and again and again the first thing you would hear when you would come into the temple is you are not that body.

Umapati Prabhu told me that in the beginning they would hear Swamiji say we are not the body and so it took a little bit of time and then they came to understand, "Oh. Swamiji is saying he is not his body." And then I heard someone else say, "Oh. So I am not my body? Then whose body am I?" In this material world 99.9% of the human beings think they are their body.

We hear this all the time, "We are not this body. We are the eternal spirit soul, the consciousness within the body." And out of thousands, millions of people if we try to understand that - hardly anyone understand really or realizes the fact that aham brahmasmi. And out of all those hardly one understands what the activity, the duty of the spirit soul is. We have been given all that from day one, not only that we are not the body and that we  are spirit soul but that we are eternally the servant of Krishna and our activity eternally is to lovingly serve him. That is it! And even though we have heard it from day one how many of us have gotten it through our thick skulls?

We may take a little check on our pulse eg. It is said that one who understands the spirit soul may see, samah sarvesu bhutesu. [Bg 18.54] They see everyone equally. But how are we viewing everyone? Someone who should serve me? Someone I should step on to get my needs met or my pleasures met? Just disregarding! No it means that one respects all living beings, amanina manadena.

Not only does one on the spiritual platform respect all life, not just other humans but all life but he does not expect any respect in return. Why should I expect any respect? Am I somebody special out of the trillions, zillions and whatever numbers come after that with all the zeroes, number of living entities that are there? This one little tiny me, how special am I?

It is stated in the scriptures that we the conscious living entity are one tenth thousandth the tip of a hair, not very big! So for one that understands that is it very hard to understand that I am actually more insignificant than the grass that we step on and walk on through the fields of Navadwip Parikrama? No. We are so insignificant and we are so limited and helpless. In the bodily concept of life especially the younger we are we think we are immortal, that we can conquer the world. That is why they can draft young men into the armies to go fight foolish wars because they think, "We will never die." The older you get the more pains you start to feel in this body. Then it starts to sink in, "Wow. This body isn't the best body. I think it is not so intelligent to identify with this body."

The body according to the scriptures and the merciful instructions and words of our spiritual master is always a source of misery. Always! Right now sitting at this table my knees are bothering me. If you stop and take account there is either going to be some bodily or mental suffering or maybe somebody is bugging you. Some other living entity is disturbing you. The egos are starting to come out in full force. All glories to the dham-basis!

Pure devotees who know they are spirit soul don't even dislike the mosquitoes. I know it sounds extreme but Vasudev, the brahmana who had leprosy who was completely transcendental to the bodily concept - this body is just a shirt. This shirt is going to be sweaty, stinky and pretty soon in a few hours I am going to be taking it off. It is a botheration. Vasudev understood he was not the body but spirit soul and in his leprosy he had so many germs and insects feeding on the puss and infection of his leprosy.

While chanting Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Some living entity or insect will fall off his body and he would pick it up and put it back in. Every living entity needs their source of sustenance. If this body can give sustenance to that living entity Hare Krishna!

What vision Prabhupada is offering us, what vision and knowledge is being given in the scriptures! And it comes not by severe austerities. That is the process of the jnanis. They thin tapasya is where it is at, giving up everything and simply toughing it out. No, no, no! Naiti, naiti, naiti! I am  not this, I am not that! Ahama brahmasmi. That doesn't get it. That doesn'tgive brahma realization. You have to mix in a little bit of worship of the Supreme Lord. At least a little bit and then if you want that chop-change of understanding that you are not the body. Simply that! Then okay, no problem! So be it!

The Vaisnavas understand that we don't even want that if there can't be service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. And by service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead all these bodily identifications, all the miseries of this body get taken away.

sarvopadhi-vinirmuktam,  tat-paratvena nirmalam [Madhya 19.170]

And the attachment and identification of this body we are relieved of it how?

hrsikena hrsikesa- sevanam bhaktir ucyate [Madhya 19.170]

Engaging in the service of the Lord. I don't understand, I don't realize that I am spirit soul but I can use this body in the service of the Lord. Under the guidance of a self realized spiritual master he understands he is not this body. He understands that he is the eternal servant of Krishna and 24/7 he is simply utilizing whatever Krishna gives him, his words, his body,  his actions, his mind, his assets, his disciples, anything and everything of this world in the service of Krishna for the pleasure of Krishna. So with  the scriptural knowledge and the example of the spiritual master then we can engage this body.

As my Prabhu was sharing with me yesterday Srila Prabhupada said according to his angle of vision I see everyone as walking dead bodies. When I heardthat I thought, "Oooh. Why this idea if I would like dead body." Prabhu doesn't identify with his dead body. I was enlivened in understanding that I am not that dead body. By the grace of Krishna within my heart He is allowing this body to be mobile and to be engaged in the service of the Lord. I am coming my Lord. Yes. How kind my spiritual master is to have opened up my darkened eyes. samah sarvesu bhutesu [Bg 18.54]
Look at the devotee next to you to your right. Look at the devotee next to you on your left. Turn around and look at the devotee behind you. Do you see him on the same platform? Do you treat them as you want to be treated? Do you treat them better that you think you should be treated? This philosophy is not just some armchair philosophy. It is not something that we have to sit on big chair and talk about and then maybe give a little [Claps his hands] Haribol! This is dead serious.

I heard Prabhupada one time wake up in Vrindavana from his bed. His body was practically finished and he had been sleeping for some hours and I happened to be fortunate to be right there when he woke up, rang the bell and had the servant sit him up immediately. I have said this before but I will say it so much more in this life again and again. He said to Tamal Krishna Maharaja, "You think you want to grow old. Do you want to grow old? Do you think I want to grow old? No. We are forced to grow old."

And he began to instruct Maharaja that, "You should go and share with people you don't have to grow old, you don't have to die. You are not this body. You are not this mind." Those who are a little bit more advanced in knowledge they don't identify with the body but they identify with the workings of the mind so often. What is this life? It is a rascal middle man. We have given power of attorney to the mind which is our worst enemy when it is simply telling us, "Yeah, okay so you got kicked when you tried to enjoy in that way. Do it this way this time. You will make it this time. You will  actually achieve your desires. You will be happy." The mind in bodily consciousness is simply trying as Prabhupada says in a foot note to a purport in the 7th canto, "Making plans to keep you and I in this miserable material world."

Srila Prabhupada in this purport says, a-brahma-bhuvanal lokah [Bg 8.16] This material world, from the highest planet Brahmaloka to the lowest planet they are all miserable. Someone was asking me about Hawaii a few days back because they heard that it is so nice there. I have lived in Hawaii for a number of years because I had to do devotional service there. Let me tell you it is no paradise. Maybe when Srila Prabhupada was here he made the statement, "You cannot enjoy in this material world but if you could it might be Hawaii."

Those days are long gone. The cool seasonal breezes ain't what they used to be - as we say in America, slang language. They are not what they used to be. The sinful reactions are catching up even with paradise. People are suffering and even when they thought they were not suffering it wasn't really a place that I personally wanted to do devotional service in, if I didn't have service that kept me there because the covering potency of this material energy, that controls this material world it deludes us. It deludes the conditioned souls since time immemorial. Everyone else thinks they are enjoying.

If you ask somebody, "How you are doing?" Everybody says, "Just fine." If you get one of these really optimistic people they will say, "Great. It has never been better. It is getting better all the time." They put on this smiling monkey face. It is a pretense. Lying right through their teeth. And those who are in bodily consciousness, "I don't really care about how you are." That is just a social nicety. If somebody asks you how you are I have had somebody retort back, "Do you really care?"

I was told by one of my Prabhus in San Diego, he said, "In the country I grew up, in the culture of iyou don't ask somebody how they are. That is  private. You should really care. I am not going to reveal to you how I really am unless I have a relationship with you." We are meant to develop that relationship with each other. That is what spiritual relationships are  about. We are meant to try and help each and every one of us serve Krishna nicely - better, better, harder, more! Go for the bliss! Go for the pleasure  that Krishna brings upon those who want to give Him pleasure.

When you see somebody serving better than yourself that is ecstatic. I am inspired not by bodily consciousness that, "I would like to tramp you down. Who does he think he is, better than me. Just wait. I will get him." No that is not meant to be this Krishna consciousness movement. Sometimes we see we look like devotees, i but am I really considering myself a servant of the Prabhus, the servants of the servants of Krishna or am I am neophyte devotee simply trying to worship Krishna to the exclusion of all the other servants of Krishna?

Krishna is not worshipped alone. That is impersonalism. Prabhupada in the early 70's when he would see these Vrajabhasi prints of Krishna in the sky alone playing His flute, Prabhupada said, "That is impersonalism. Krishna is never alone. He is always surrounded by loving devotees." But the neophyte just wants to focus on Krishna or maybe guru. My guru is certainly better than your guru. What does that mean? I am better than you are. My guru is His Holiness so and so. Our meeting right place at the right time. My spiritual master is His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada Ki Jai! But does that make me better than you? No! It means I am very fortunate but anybody connected to the disciplic succession from Rupa Goswami, from Caitanya Mahaprabhu, we are the most fortunate of all the living entities revolving up and down in this brahmanada, this material universe.

When we start to understand these words, when they enter the heart and soften it humility starts to develop. Arrogance and pride has nothing to do with spiritual realization. Nothing to do! It is like oil and water. It doesn't mix. You can put the oil in the water in a little blob. It is there  in the water. Contaminated consciousness that is bodily consciousness. The soul, you and I are pure by nature. We just have to become filtered. We have to become cleansed by this spiritual process or serving the servants of the Lord, becoming purified. Hopefully one day I will be allowed to enter into this eternal realm where the Lord lives. Now we are getting to the spiritual world.

The spiritual world has unlimited planets. What to speak of the universes, this planet looks like nothing - just a tiny view of them, unlimited universes. If you remember on the first three volumes of Srimad-Bhagavatam that Prabhupada brought to America to distribute, remember the picture of all the little universes, the bubbles that were there and had the names of different expansions of Visnu?

Madhvi Prabhu told me that one time he and the devotees were looking at this book and going, "Wow, that is a far out Vaikuntha planet right there. Look at that. We are going to ask Srila Prabhupada which one that is. I really like to go there." So they brought it to Srila Prabhupada and said, "This one here Srila Prabhupada, which Vaikuntha planet is that? That one looks most far out. I would really like to go there." Srila Prabhupada said, "That is the material world." [Laughter]

Guess what? Our wish got fulfilled. Each and every one of us are rotting in this material world. And now somehow or the other by causeless mercy we are being given the opportunity to get out of here in one birth Srila Prabhupada said. Sometime I would run at the devotees who aren't convinced of that. They doubt that. They think, "I am never going to become so pure to possess krsna-prema that I will qualify to get out of this material world.

Prabhus pray, beg for krsna-prema. Show your sincerity that you want it more than the next breadth that will come. You want it more than the life of this dead body. We should feel, pray and think like that. But for the biggest majority of us it is not going to happen in this life. What to do? Does that mean we are doomed to rotate in the cycle of birth and death? No. Take full shelter of the instructions and the shelter of the spiritual master and the Vaisnavas, the  scripture and engage this one life in devotional service - just this one life. Then by the mercy of the spiritual master and the Vaisnavas, Caitanya Mahaprabhu one can be picked up.

One time in Los Angeles Srila Prabhupada was giving a lecture. Maharaj were you in the lecture were Prabhupada was talking about one should be a 100%Krishna conscious and the devotees said, "Oh my God I can never be." "Okay 99% Krishna conscious." Where you there Maharaj? "Okay not 90%, 80%. All right 75% Krishna consciousness. If you can become 78% Krishna conscious I will take you back to Godhead." Haribol! Srila Prabhupada said, "I have the key to the back door to the spiritual world."

It is not what you know; it is who you know in Krishna consciousness. We want the mercy of the Vaisnavas, of our spiritual master. If we love our spiritual master we will love his mood and his instructions. We will give this life to him as his menial slave, as his servant. One who has got that spirit he is given all these gifts, these transcendental realizations of who I am, what my purpose in life is. And Srila Prabhupada can take us back to Godhead.

We have this verse here Dhruva Maharaja, such a wonderful example for us. The determination he showed. I am not going to go into it. When the devotees came for the GBC meetings they had been hearing this section of the Bhagavatam. Many, many speakers always went through the verse, part of Dhruva Maharaja's life. We all know the first part of his life. The point is in six months by following the instructions of his spiritual master very seriously even though he was full of material desires - artha arthi. He wanted the kingdom but he put in on the back shelf. He just completely surrendered to the instructions of guru and that pleased Krishna so much. He revealed Himself to Dhruva and gave him love.

That example we can't imitate but we can sure pray to be able to follow the example of being serious and sincere about Krishna consciousness. And here he is he got his ticket. You and I have a ticket. Prabhupada is begging, "Please don't leave. Don't give up this Krishna consciousness." Hold on to your ticket. It is just a matter of time before you get to turn it in and go back to Godhead like Dhruva Maharaja.

This is the one year anniversary to this day of Grahila Prabhu leaving his mortal frame behind and going back home back to Godhead. It was approximately right around this time. That is the velocity right before our eyes. It is not a i We are being given the most precious, priceless treasure of devotional service, this eternal opportunity to serve Krishna. We don't have the inebrieties of the material body.

Some of us who live in the west sometimes we come to India and we see men, material energy just doesn't click smoothly like it does in for example America. You want to pull something off in India you got to work at it. It is the way material energy works. Similarly the entire material world is like that. The material body is like that. Not in Vaikuntha, not in Krsnaloka. Full facility, full freedom, full love and opportunity to serve to your heart's content. Krishna never lets you down. Never!

I want to focus on this one liner. It is a wonderful sutra that I was told. Srila Prabhupada said that, "The eternal relationship of servant to Krishna is the most congenial form of intimacy." Srila Prabhupada said these words. Congenial - I am not the besti I looked it up in the dictionary. iwrote the definitions down for me. Listen to the beautiful definitions of this word - congenial. Then I will repeat the sentence again. Congenial means:
1.Having the same taste or temperament.

3.Suited to one's nature or needs

So I will repeat the sutra: "The eternal relationship of servant to Krishna is the most congenial form of intimacy." We are looking for love and intimacy in this world. Is anybody truly satisfied in what they found so far? No. Even amongst devotees we get let down sometimes. It is the nature of this world.

Srila Prabhupada onetime said, "Everybody will let you down except Krishna." Or he said, let me get it correct, "Everyone can let you down except Krishna." We have the same tastes. We are sac cid and ananda just like He is. He is the best friend. The reciprocation of love, us serving Him and believe it or not He is serving us is suited to our nature and needs. We need this. He is so friendly. Every act of devotion that we perform as Srila Prabhupada said, for every step we take He takes ten towards us.

As a neophyte aspiring devotee we don't really don't comprehend how much Krishna wants our service. He is self satisfied yet simultaneously inconceivably He yearns to be reunited with us in the spiritual world where He will reciprocate with us one on one in a unique individual relation unlike anybody else. Sanatana Goswami says that with every living entity Krishna manifest a specific individual potency to reciprocate lovingly with that individual.

There are some definitions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead having unlimited potencies. He wants our service. He wants us to be happy that is why He wants our service. He doesn't need it. He wants it. It is for our benefit. This is love. Dhruva Maharaja experienced that. He understood it. He offered respects to those who helped him get that love - to his mother as we have heard a couple of days ago, to these two eternal servants of the Lord who are taking him back to his worshipable Lord in the airplane.

This is the heart of a devotee - one of gratitude. I heard that a very nice class was given yesterday and that was one of the big points, gratitude to anyone who assists us in Krishna consciousness. How can we repay that? We hear in regards to the spiritual master he has picked us up. The debt to him is eternal and can never be repaid. But don't take lightly any assistance of service and association given by the servants, the followers of the spiritual master.
Krishna very much appreciates when He sees the loving affectionate serving mentality amongst all of His servants. All! Not just the devotees with tilak. He wants all the living entities to come back. And those who help the spiritual master in that service become so dear to Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Krishna. What is the difficulty? It is such a simple process we have been given. Chant, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Serve the Vaisnavas and have compassion on all living entities. Three little things Caitanya Mahaprabhu asks. That is what He and His eternal associates came to give. Simple but for the insincere or for the doubtful or for the materially attached not easy. Tamal Krishna Maharaja once said that to Srila Prabhupada, "I thought you said that this Krishna consciousness was easy." Srila Prabhupada said, "I never said that. I said it was simple."

So Dhruva Maharaja has set the perfect example for us. Srila Prabhupada has set the perfect example for us. Life in general is perfect. Krishna is everywhere even when we are getting our slaps and our kicks. Even from those you would expect them not to come to you. "Why did that Prabhu do that to me? Why did they treat me that way?"

Whatever it may be it is all the perfect arrangement. You either learn directly or indirectly. And we are meant to set the example. Not that we are expecting you to follow and you to measure up. "You should be advanced so that you can help me and serve me." No. we are meant to set the example. That is what the spiritual master does. That is what the advanced devotees do.

We are all swimming upstream. Everybody else in this world is going down, down, down. If they don't take up Krishna consciousness, take advantage of the opportunity Caitanya Mahaprabhu's movement Srila Prabhupada said that one will not get another opportunity for millions of kalpas. I sat down and tried to figure that out. That is many, many lifetimes of Lord Brahma which is inconceivable to us. Many of those lifetimes!

Prabhupada's heart, a real devotee is overflowing with compassion, it is aching with compassion to help those that are suffering because they know what misery they are in and what misery lies ahead of them if they don't take advantage of this human form of life and devotional service. If we associate with those taking seriously the example and instructions of the spiritual master it is contagious. If we show the proper mood in determined acts of surrender and service to the spiritual master and Vaisnvasa the blessings come from the spiritual master and we can measure up to these words, this encouragement. This is not our home. No religious teacher for that matter, no saint of any tradition says that this is our home.

The first day I walked up to a Hare Krishna Temple they had a sign that said, "Are you tired of living in the material world?" If you are not these  words of mine are just basically wasting your time because if you think  there is something to be had, "I can just kind of ithis way or maneuver myself that way. I will get it this time." If you have that hope against  hope of becoming happy in this world you are going to cheat yourself. You will get what you want by the mercy of the Lord and His external energy - another body again and again and again. But if you actually are tired then give this life, this energy, these thoughts, these words, our assets, our  relations, everything we posses in the service of Srila Prabhupada and his  followers and Caitanya Mahaprabhu. I want to leave a little bit of time so that some realizations that you want to share form this class or question Iam happy to hear. Thank you very much.

HG Jananivas Prabhu: Thank you very much. I was very much absorbed in thought in the way you presented Krishna consciousness that I couldn't think of anything else. Thank you very much. There was complete absorption due to the way you presented nicely.

HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: Hare Krishna. Don't let the Vaisnavas fool you

Prabhu: in the beginning we said, "I am not this body." But we need a form, we need to identify with something to engage ourselves. Sometimes we say, "Iam not this material body.' But we can say we are the spiritual mind or can we say I am not this body that is not engaged in Krishna's service. Can we say that is the negative? Can we say the positive that I am this body that is engaged in spiritual service?

HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: We are not this body. The body is like the chaddar you have on your shoulder. Your mind is like the under garments. Even though they are temporary and full of faults Prahlad maharaja says that they are so valuable, so rare that they can be used in the service of the Lord.

Yes we have a spiritual form. It is unmanifest right now. It is covered because we are not accepting the mercy sufficiently for that form to be manifest within our consciousness. Self realization leads to God realization. When I was saying through your faults, if you are chanting Hare Krishna and we understand the form of the Lord, the effulgent Supreme  Personality of Godhead He illuminates us. You see the Lord and you see yourself with spiritual vision, not material eyes. Real devotional service begins on the spiritual platform.

It is very encouraging when Prabhupada says we are all pure devotees and we can please the Lord. It is only by the mercy of the spiritual master that we develop the spiritual body by his grace. Until that time we aren't able to serve the transcendental adhoksaja not with our spiritual form. That comes later. That spirit soul, you and I have a spiritual form that posses spiritual mind, hands, legs, ears, eyes, nose etc. everything that is here.  This is a shadow of that spiritual form. We just have to have it revealed to us.

Prabhu: I agree with what you are saying. Can we say we need some sense to engage with the sense objects so can we say that we are the purified sensesof the body, can we say this?

HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: I can say my senses aren't sufficient. Yours might be. But I am in the shower. My senses are becoming purified. That is a  great hope for me, great optimism. I see those who are more purified than me. I simply have to follow their example. I see those who went back to Godhead, Ihave seen it with my own eyes. I can do that. And that is the whole point. If we don't make the perfection of love for Krishna then if we surrender to the spiritual master and please him he can take us whether manifestiBe born with all the Vrajabhasis or the Navadvipbhasis  and you are surrounded by the eternal associates of the LordiThe love will manifest. The mercy is al there. It can be given. We just have to want it sufficiently. We have it. We just have to accept it.

Prabhu: I can feel right now can say that pure devotional service can take over my mindithink of something spiritual. So how to understand this 75% andwhat to expect at the time of death?

HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: Did everybody hear the question? He is asking what does Srila Prabhupada means by 75% Krishna conscious. And the last part waswhat can I expect at the time of death?

If you give your best, your everything. I am in sales where I work half the year. If I set a goal for myself I know I am not the doer but I am praying to the Lord, "This is the upkeep of my home right now and my tickets here etc. I would like to make this much.' And if I try so hard, sometimes because I am trying so hard Krishna gives more.

When you set your bar high then if you fall a little shorter then what is the harm? If we try to surrender cent percent because that is what is being asked - cent percent surrender but if we try and fall a little short that is where we are begging for the mercy because on our own endeavor we know our own endeavor isn't sufficient. It is not. We need the mercy. It is endeavor and mercy. They have to both be there for perfection.

The teachings are very promising. Whatever we remember at the time of death we will achieve that. If the holy names are resounding in the ears - forgive me if you think I am sentimental or just a simpleton - you get Krishna. That is what you should expect at the time of death.

Look at the devotee next to you. How are how you honoring and helping him. We say serving but use the words help instead of service. Service has a bad connotation. I serve my country, I serve my family, I serve my mother-in-law or I serve the government. Service sometimes has a real bitter taste. Try helping. Are you helping the Prabhu's next to you? You better because you might have to depend on them when your last breath is coming. Will they beinclined, will they be grateful for all you did for them and will they be happy to stay there for days or weeks in the final experience of illness, old age and death?

In Mayapur we see that a lot. Devotees surrendering to wanting to serve and help for sometimes extended periods. I haven't heard lately how's Murari Hari doing, the old brahmacari with a broken hip. How is he doing? I don't really know. But I saw some of the Spanish speaking devotees assisting him. He is so fortunate. They probably got more of his mercy than I did. Foreign language! You get my pint?

You should expect to go back to Godhead in this life. You ask a serious devotee if he wants to go back home back to Godhead. I believe in the words of my spiritual master. If I fulfill my part of the bargain he will fulfill his. We got such a good bargain. In one lifetime return to Krishna. We are in Mayapur, the land of mercy, magnanimity is flying by, take it! Chant and be happy. Give it to everybody else. Let them be happy. One last one then I am being allowed to go on parikrama.

Prabhu: Hare Krishna. Thank you very much for your nice class. It is a question about going back to Godhead. In Bhagavad-gita we hear this talk that out of many thousands of people hardly one endeavors and in the Bhagavatam it mentions millions of people and we hear the term that it is extremely rare for someone to go back to Godhead yet we often hear that in our movement many devotees leave their body and go back to Godhead. We hear this talk. So I am wondering what is actually the proof that they go back to Godhead? If you could speak a little on this.

HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: What is the proof that they went back to Godhead?

Prabhu: Because Krishna says it is extremely rare.

HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: In terms of rarity how many living entities are there in this world? We can only say how many species there are because it is in scripture - 8 400 000 species. There are unlimited living entities. It is inconceivable for us with our tiny brain how many living entities are in the smallest universe. So for a devotee, a few devotees, for ten thousand years in kali yuga you get to go back home to Goloka Vrindavan it is nothing. It is nothing! It is so rare. We cannot conceive of how many Kali yugas we have been in. we have been through unlimited Kali yugas. Lord Caitanya only comes in one Kali yuga in the day of Brahma. He has 365 days a year and lives a hundred years. It is rare.

How do I know they go back home back to Godhead? I cannot say that I haven't seen Srila Prabhupada personally come when his devotee is leaving his body. I felt him. Everybody that was in Grahila Prabhu's room when he left his body in the kirtan Srila Prabhupada and the Lord came ianother dimension. It wasn't me leading kirtaniIt was divine. Hairs standing on end, crying. I knew Srila Prabhupada was there.

So I have seen devotees leave their bodies a number of times. It is getting more and more frequent. Then it is going to happen to you and me. I have faith in the words of my spiritual master and you should also. That is why I speak these optimistic words.

If somebody has to tell you we have got to do it on our own we don't expect the honorary diploma. Don't think like that. We don't deserve it but this is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's movement. He is intoxicated with the mood of Radharani and He and the Panca-tattva are just giving it away. We just have to be inthe right place at the right time and not close your fingers. Prabhupada said, "I am trying to give mercy to everyone." The devotee asked, "Why am I getting so much mercy." He said, "You are accepting it."

So this Prabhu just brought up something. I don't know what it is but if I take it touch it to my head and accept it is mine. Mercy is there. So I know that Prabhus are going back to Godhead. I was there when Srila Prabhupada left his body and I have had similar emotions and spiritual feelings. Don't call it spiritual but I don't know what else to call it. It is not mundane consciousness when I see Prabhus leaving.

Prabhu: May I ask what are we to make of Bhaktivinode Thakur's instructions in Sri Harinam Cintamini where he mentions we have to perfect our service inthe material world through meditation while we are in this body. What are we to make of this instruction so to speak? Are we to bypass this and think mercy is coming anyway regardless?
HG Rajendrananda Prabhu: That is the mood of us cheating neophyte devotees. We want to throw it all out and take this process of the rare mercy of puredevotional service to Radha and Krishna cheaply. That is the tendency. I hope by my words and association no one thinks that is what I am promoting, to take this rare priceless gift cheaply. Srila Prabhupada takes us to the manifest lila in one sense you haven't made it back to Godhead. This is acintya-bhedabheda. It is in one of the material world, one of the dhams of the material world and once we perfect our Krishna consciousness in that land. But in the absolute sense there is no difference in the manifest lila in the holy dham in the material world and in Goloka Vrindavan in the spiritual world. There is no real difference on the absolute platform. So if we make it that far. We could do it.

The brahmanas who were performing yajnas they did not surrender and run to Krishna like their wives did. They may have to take another birth in the manifest pastimes of Krishnai Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur says that happens sometimes, several births in the manifest lila before you get it.

Some of us are really stubborn. But when the spiritual master, the pure devotee is determined to take you back to Godhead you got to really screw up with determined effort not to be considering that. Sri Madhavendra Puri

Sri Madhavendra Puri

During Nityananda Prabhu's tour of all the holy places of India for the purpose of purifying them, by the will of providence, he happened to meet Madhavendra Puripada somewhere in western India. When Nityananda Prabhu saw Madhavendra Puri Goswami he fainted away in a swoon of ecstatic love and His transcendental body became completely still. Similarly, when Madhavendra Puri gazed upon Nityananda Prabhu, he completely forgot himself and faintedto the ground.

Sri Gaurcandra used to repeatedly remark that, in relishing the mellows of love in devotion, there is no one to compare with Madhavendra Puri. When the disciples of Madhavendra Puri, headed by Isvara Puri, saw their spiritual master and the Prabhu fallen in a faint of ecstatic love, they began to cry. Gradually, Nityananda Prabhu and Madhavendra got back their external consciousness. When their eyes opened and they again got sight of one another, they put their arms around each other's necks and cried tears of joy. Then they began to roll in the sandy earth carried by the waves of ecstatic love, while rending the sky with their loud roaring. As a river of love began to flow from their eyes, Mother Earth considered herself to be blessed in being flooded by that inundation. With the appearance of the transformations brought by bhava, trembling, tears, and standing of the hairs on end, it could be understood that their bodies had become a place of pastimes for Caitanya Gosai.

Nityananda exclaimed, "Today I have received the fruit of all my travels to the holy places. In seeing the feet of Madhavendra Puri, I have received the treasure of love of God, and thus my life has become blessed."

Madhavendra Puri continued to embrace Nityananda Prabhu tightly to his chest. He wanted to say something but his voice was choked up due to experiencing intense emotions. Isvara Puri, Brahmananda Puri and the other disciples of Sri Puripada present, became completely enamored by NityanandaPrabhu. Some other pilgrims were present at that place but due to being devoid of devotion, they couldn't understand what was going on and continued to converse amongst themselves. The devotees felt some sorrow to see the behaviour of those dullheaded brutes so they retreated into the forest to be rid of their company. When they were alone together again, their distress was destroyed and they continued to relish the mellows of Krsna-prema. In this way Nityananda Prabhu and Madhavendra Puri spent some days together in the happiness of Krsna-katha.

Madhavendra Puri's love of God was very uncommon. Simply upon seeing a dark raincloud he would fall down unconscious. Day and night he imbibed the spirituous liquor of Krsna-prema, and thus remained intoxicated, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, sometimes raising a tumultuous hue and cry.Nityananda also behaved just like a madman, falling down on the ground, his body agitated by waves of ecstasy. As lava belches forth from avolcano, loudloud laughter erupted from his mouth while his whole body, as if in the throes of a great earthquake, trembled violently.

Never before having seen such unprecedented displays of ecstatic emotions, Madhavendra Puri's disciples continuously remained engaged in Hari-kirtana.No one knew whether it was day or night. Having become completely absorbed in the mellows of Krsna-prema, the days were passing though it seemed tothem that not even a moment had elapsed yet. Whatever was discussed between Madhavendra and Nityananda is known only to them and Sri Krsnacandra. Who else is capable of understanding such subject matter? Madhavendra Puri was unable to give up Nityananda's company and so he continued to roam about, keeping Nityananda with him.

Madhavendra Puri told his disciples, "Never before anywhere in all my travels to all the holy places, have I ever seen such love as this. I could understand that the Supreme Lord is merciful to me when I got a friend like Nityananda as my close companion. Whenever one gets His association, that place becomes the sum total of all holy places and non-different from Vaikuntha itself. Whoever simply hears about Him will definitely get the association of Sri Krsnacandra. And whoever bears even the slightest enmity towards Him, though he may be a devotee, is not dear to Krsna." In this way, day and night, Madhavendra praised the attractive qualities of Nityananda Prabhu.

Lord Nityananda respected Madhavendra Puri as his guru and always behaved with him in that relationship. After travelling together for some days finally Nityananda Prabhu set of in the direction of Setu Bandha while Madhavendra Puri started for Sarayu. Having lost contact with the external world neither of them was aware of his own body. In order to maintain body and soul together, they thus remained in these transcendental states of consciousness. If in external consciousness, they would cease to live. [C.B. Adi 9.158-192]

At the time of his departure from this world, Madhavendra Puri was completely absorbed in separation from Krsna and constantly repeated one sloka. This verse is considered by Gaudiya Vaishnavas to be the essence of expression of the mood of separation.

Among his associates and disciples were Sri Advaita Acarya, Sri Pundarika Vidyanidhi, Sri Nityananda Prabhu, Sri Iswara Puri, Sri Paramananda Puri, Sri Ranga Puri, Sri Ramacandra Puri, Sri Nrsimha Tirtha, Sri Raghupati Upadhyaya, Sri Sukhananda Puri, among others.

"Madhavendra Puri's body is totally imbued with divine love, as are his followers as well. He takes nothing other than the juice of the mellows of love for Krsna as his foodstuffs. Thus his body has become the place of pastimes of Sri Krsna." [C.B.Adi 9.155]

His worshippable Deity, Gopalji, is presently residing at Nathdwar in Rajasthan, and is worshipped by the followers of Vallabhacarya.

Live From Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir!

Date: March 10th, 2011

Topic: Dhruva Maharaja Goes Back to Godhead

Verse: 4:12:34

Speaker: HG Jagajivan Prabhu

tatra tatra prasamsadbhih

pathi vaimanikaih suraih

avakiryamano dadrse

kusumaih kramaso grahan

TRANSLATION: While Dhruva Maharaja was passing through space, he gradually saw all the planets of the solar system, and on the path he saw all thedemigods in their airplanes showering flowers upon him like rain.

PURPORT: There is a Vedic version, yasmin vijnate sarvam evam vijnatam bhavati (Mundaka Upanisad 1.3), which means that by knowing the Supreme Personality of Godhead, everything becomes known to the devotee. Similarly, by going to the planet of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one can knowall the other planetary systems on the path to Vaikuntha. We should remember that Dhruva Maharaja's body was different from our bodies. While boardingthe Vaikuntha airplane, his body changed to a completely spiritual golden hue. No one can surpass the higher planets in a material body, but when one gets a spiritual body he can travel not only to the higher planetary system of this material world, but even to the still higher planetary system known as Vaikunthaloka. It is well known that Narada Muni travels everywhere, both in the spiritual and material worlds.

It should be noted also that while Suniti was going to Vaikunthaloka she also changed her body into spiritual form. Like Sri Suniti, every mother should train her child to become a devotee like Dhruva Maharaja. Suniti instructed her son, even at the age of five years, to be unattached to worldly affairs and to go to the forest to search out the Supreme Lord. She never desired that her son remain at home comfortably without ever undertaking austerities and penances to achieve the favor of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Every mother, like Suniti, must take care of her son and train him to become a brahmacari from the age of five years and to undergo austerities and penances for spiritual realization. The benefit will be that if her son becomes a strong devotee like Dhruva, certainly not only will he be transferred back home, back to Godhead, but she will also be transferred with him to the spiritual world, even though she may be unable to undergo austerities and penances in executing devotional service. [End of Srila Prabhupada's purport to SB 4.12.34]

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: Just like when a hero comes back from war they have a parade for him. It is called the 'Tick or take Parade.' They throw confetti paper as he is coming through. Just like this to honor him. Like this Dhruva Maharaja is leaving the material world. In this sense he is a hero and the demigods are honoring him by throwing flowers on him. That is their way of honoring somebody. They are throwing flowers. He had become successful.
Here Srila Prabhupada explains that he could not go with his material body. His body was purely spiritualized upon entering the airplane and it became golden, which is the power of bhakti. The color of Radharani is also golden. The color of Lord Caitanya is also golden. So in this way he became purified but he was getting on his plane and he was thinking, "How can I go without being grateful to my siksa guru, my mother who awakened in me the desire to become Krishna conscious.

So that is the nature of a devotee. He is very grateful. Canakya Pandit also mentions that is the nature of a civilized person. He is very grateful. So he was thinking, "How can I go without giving some benefit to my mother who has helped me so much?" It is also explained that because of her prayers to Dhruva Maharaja he was also able to advance spiritually - because of the prayers of his mother." Because of this influence he was able to undergo these austerities by the help of his mother.

In the previous verse of course Srila Prabhupada takes a very humble attitude and says that by the help and blessings of his disciples he will also become perfect. Of course Prabhupada is the most perfect person. It is not that he needs our help but he was taking this humble attitude. Sometimes Srila Prabhupada would manifest this attitude of being one of the devotees, being a humble servant of Krishna. When he was asked, "What is your quality, what is your power?" He said, "I am just a servant of Krishna that is my power."

I will tell a little story that Rupanuga Prabhu told me, which happened on twenty six second avenue. Not many know this story. At that time they were instituting the process of serving prasadam by the devotees standing up and getting in line for prasadam. They had just instituted that. So Rupanuga wasannouncing to the devotees how to do it. So he said to all the devotees, "I want you all to stand up. Please get in line, get a plate and then you will be served your prasadam. Okay? So all the devotees please stand up and get in line." So all the devotees stood up. Rupanuga was looking at the line and right in the middle of the line Srila Prabhupada was standing like one of the devotees thinking in humility, "I am one of the devotees. Why shouldn't I stand in line with the devotees?" So in this way he showed his great humility.

As we see in the previous purport he was thanking his disciples or he was asking his disciples to become advanced spiritually so he may become benefitted. Once someone asked Srila Prabhupada what was the relationship between the disciple and the Siksastakam since in the Siksastakam of Lord Caitanya all truths are present there. The devotee wanted to know where the relationship between the spiritual master and the disciple was in the Siksastakam. So Srila Prabhupada said, "amanina mana-dena."

Amanina mana-dena, mutual respect you can say or amanina we are not looking for respect but mana-dena, we are looking to give respect. In this way Srila Prabhupada showed us how he was respecting his own devotees, his own disciple and at the same time he was receiving their respect also. That is the nature of love. It is a mutual thing, something between the two.

We can understand also that love that Suniti had for Dhruva Maharaja helped him advance spiritually. Recently my mother passed away so I was able to meditate on this. It is amazing how the Srimad-Bhagavatam is a living scripture. It touches your heart, the heart of each individual person. So I was thinking what purport and verse there would be and this is something that recently happened to me so I was very affected by it So this verse of Srimad-Bhagavatam is purifying me by this knowledge.

We all have mothers and fathers who maybe at one point were not very favorable toward becoming devotees but still somehow or the other they gave us their love. They were loving a devotee so what greater boon is there for someone to love a devotee for many, many years, thirty to forty years of loving a devotee. This was an amazing thing. So in this way they become benefitted.

We can speak coldly philosophically but the fact is when there are these loving exchanges as we see with Dhruva Maharaja. There was a loving exchange between him and his mother, so much so that he didn't want to go to Vaikuntha without his mother. He didn't want to go. "What about my mother," he was thinking. This is his great amanina mana-dena and very respectful. So the devotee is a gentleman. Prabhupada said we can conquer the world in eighteen day if we are gentlemen. Ladies and gentleman. Dhruva Maharaja is also showing his compassion, his gentlemanly nature, his civilized nature.

So devotees who are also are very kind to all living entities and treat them with mercy and compassion they will be effective preachers of Krishna consciousness. Here it is explained also that the devotee because he worships the Supreme Personality of Godhead who is the source of all knowledge, knowledge of all planes of existence are also revealed in that devotee. So Prabhupada quotes, yasmin vijnate sarvam evam vijnatam bhavati (Mundaka Upanisad 1.3) that when one knows Krishna everything is revealed. So when one chants Hare Krishna all mantras, all Vedic purports are given to him when his devotion is so intense that he is come to this stage of purity.

One thing that touched me in the purports about Dhruva Maharaja is that his determination was very intense. He had a very strong determination to advance spiritually. Rupa Goswami explains that with this enthusiastic determination we can advance spiritually. Otherwise when we would become complacent we lose our drive to advance.

In a letter Srila Prabhupada also wrote that enthusiasm or that determination will come when you arise early and participate in the morning program. You will become enthused. This will give you enthusiasm, to follow the process of devotional service. This material world is not an easy place. We have these material bodies which we are trying to purify by using them in Krishna's service. So it is a very difficult situation. Sometimes it is very austere for the devotees. We have to rise early. Our mind says, "No. Why rise early? No one will see you. Take more rest. You need it." Here we can see how Dhruva Maharaja's  determination and beyond all consideration if things were difficult or not. He was very determined to reach the goal of Krishna consciousness.

Now I would like to give an update. How many of you have gone on the parikrama? Few have gone. So I will give an update. So before in the US during World War Two after the movie they would have a news review about the war effort. So like this I would like to explain a little bit about our parikramas. I had the great fortune of going with Jayapataka Maharaja. He goes to all four of the parikramas every day so I was able to go. Today I couldn't go unfortunately because I am here. But we were able to go with him to these four different parikramas - the Bengali, the Hindi, Russian and International groups. It was very inspiring experience. Each of these holy places vibrates with special blessings for the devotees. In different places you will receive different blessings in devotional service. Apart from the fact that the islands are different aspects of devotional service each specific place has a specific boon for the devotees.

Yesterday we went Suvarna Bihar which was existing from Satya yuga. The king Suvarna Sena, and you can see ruins from Satya yuga there. Suvarna Vigraha is the golden form of Lord Caitanya. Vihar is moving. So this is the place of dancing. We first received the international group and then the Hindi devotees came and we got them to dance to Nitai Gauranga. They all got up and danced. It is a place where the dancing is more powerful. If you dance there you will get great benefit.

Then yesterday we went to Pancaveni which is the confluence of five sacred rivers and where the demigods still come to sport. There we met the Russian devotees. Jayapataka Maharaja is trying to encourage some competition between them of who will serve nicer. Who will pick up after themselves! So in this way he was fanning the fire of competition between the devotees.

Then we went to Nrsingapouli where Lord Nrsimhadev cleansed His hands after killing Hiranyakasipu. That was before the first day. Sometime we  duplicated. We were waiting for one group and another group came also.
Yesterday we went to Vidyanagara where the Lord studied, the place Lord Caitanya received knowledge from Brhaspati who incarnated as Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya. So in different places, different vibrations. I was explaining that the psychics can feel an object and know where it has been. So this holy land is vibrating with the touch of the lotus feet of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Lord Nityananda so just walking here is like one asvamedha yajna, or something like that - on the parikrama. So like this, this place is very holy.

Also here in Mayapur we began to walk all over the dham with my companion and we were seeing in different places even close here to Mayapur, not only the holy places but different places where devotees live and engage in spiritual activities, we saw the making of date ghur. Some ladies were making it with straw fires. Then we saw the bee hives. They were making honey. There is also big honey production in the back. These are hidden places. And of course the cows, not only in our goshala we saw cows but devotees also have cows Mother Hrimati, Bhagavatamrta also has his cows. So we were able to visit different devotee's goshalas which was very nice. And we saw how many devotees are actually building. The Russians are winning of course. They are making so many buildings. There are two left if you still want to buy! Two apartments! The Russians are building like crazy.

So like this as our main temple goes up and up the city around it has been formed. So like this the dham is a mystical place. Just like if you walk around Vrindavan you will see different things. It is very mystical. So here in Mayapur it is also very mystical. Not only the holy places we visit but everywhere you go has some special rasa for you, so special vibration. So we should try to be very receptive to these spiritual vibrations.

Lord Caitanya's birthplace was discovered by the spiritual perception of Jagannath das Babaji. He was able to feel and to see the place where Lord Caitanya appeared. Also the Goswamis when they went to Vrindavan everything was just a forest and somehow or the other they had to find these holy places. Through Srimati Radharani and Krishna's help they were able to discover these places but also because of their spiritual advancement they were able to perceive the spiritual nature of these holy places. So that means that the holy places are giving off this very divine vibration which we can perceive and appreciate. So this is a movement of appreciation.

That is also what amanina mana-dena means. That is also Dhruva Maharaja's feeling of appreciation. So we should appreciate the service of other devotees. Everyone is serving Krishna. In the spiritual world it is a world of appreciation. It is not a linear place or hierarchy but a world of appreciation where everyone appreciates the service of others. So that is what I am getting from Dhruva Maharaja, from the preaching of the Srimad-Bhagavatam. So as devotees I think this is the emblem or the devotee's divine quality that he is able to appreciate the service of others.

There is one devotee in Brazil, Dhanvantari Maharaja. I don't know if many of you know him. The nature of maharaja is that he remembers all the service all the devotees have done. At any given time he can say all the wonderful service that any devotee has done and I always marvel watching him do this because it is such a wonderful thing, this gift he has, hoping that one day that gift will also rub off on me. You get old and memory goes but somehow or the other if we can appreciate just a little bit the service of others and in this way worship the devotees of Lord Caitanya our life can be successful. Sri Nityananda Prabhu said, "Anyone who worships Lord Caitanya I  will worship him." And Lord Caitanya also glorified the devotees so many times. So I will end here if there are some questions?

Prabhu: Respected Prabhuji broadcasted in your lecture amanina manadena kirtaniyah sada harih. You should respect and appreciate each and everybody but you should never consider to get respect. This is also the teaching of Caitanya Mahaprabhu this is the Vaisnava system but mostly we say half the time by lip service, "I am your servant." But mostly when we need the help of our devotee and well wishers those mostly in the disciplic succession of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu they don't co-operate and support. When we need the support and co-operation of our devotees at that moment they forget thisslogan, amanina manadena kirtaniyah sada harih. They mostly harass and chastise the devotee in 98% of the cases. Why they should support the devotee, why do they forget, why do they not follow it, what is their idea?Hare Krishna.

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: They need you to tell them. This material world is a place of forgetting. So it is not surprising. It is surprising those who do not forget. That is surprising. But to forget is not surprising. Everyone is forgetting so it is up to you to remind them.

Prabhupada once wrote me a letter. "This is the wish of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu that, yare dakho tare kaho krsna upadesa, everyone you see or meet, tell him about krsna; amara ajnaya guru haya tara ei desa [Cc. Madhya 7.128], and by My command you become a guru and save this land. This was also the mission of my guru maharaj and it is my mission. You will perfect your life if you make it also your mission.

People everywhere are suffering on account of being led by blind leaders who are devoid of all knowledge of the soul. Such foolish men lead other foolish men and all concerned suffer. Andha yathandhair upaniyamana, when one blind man leads another, the result is that both of them fall into the ditch. Therefore there is a requirement for a section of society to become first class men, free of the influence of the modes of material nature, who can understand the mission of this human form of life and who can teach it to others. I am trying to create these men, but it is hard, for people have become lost of all  intelligence due to the coverings of the three modes of material nature. So I am one man alone, yet now there are so many nice boys and girls like you to help me push on this movement in my old age. I thank you very much for your sincere efforts and you have my blessings that you will without a doubt be  successful if you stick to the regulative principles and chant at least 16 rounds a day. Surely Krsna will recognize your service, and as soon as you are recognized by Krsna, then your life immediate becomes perfect. So continue your preaching activitiesi" [Srila Prabhupada's Letter to: Jagajivan -- New Delhi 1 September, 1976] So people are suffering. Don't think that everyone will understand this amanina manadena Principle but you can teach them.

Prabhu: Thank you very much Prabhuji for focusing on this issue of preaching Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's statements and always follow Srila Prabhupada'sinstructions. Hare Krishna.

Prabhu: This attachment of Dhruva Maharaja to his mother is the question I like to ask about. Prabhupada was once quoted as saying if we were attached to the sunrise or a sunset, I forget which one, in this material world we will not be able to go back to Godhead. Then there is the famous prayer of Queen Kunti where Krishna is leaving to go to the Vrsni's who are her relatives and she is attached to the Pandavas who are her relatives and they are all devotees of the Lord, so she prays to Krishna, "Please just let me give up all this attachment and just be attached to you. So the question is what is material attachment and what is spiritual attachment? If Dhruva's attachment to his mother was spiritual and not material why wasn't Kunti's attachment to her devotee children and devotee relatives material and not spiritual? It is really hard to judge so I was wondering if you could speak on this or say something.

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: It has to do with Krishna's interest, how Krishna is interested. Just like Suniti was a devotee you can say because she was devoted to her devotee son because Lord Visnu says, "You cannot be My devotee. Being My devotee means to be the devotee of My devotee." So certainly she was a devotee because she was devoted to her devotee son. So in this way she was in the same position as Kunti in one sense. Even though she was not qualified in one sense she became qualified because of her son but that is not material. Dhruva Maharaja never showed his attachment to her materially. He just thought she was taking on this role as Prabhupada explained in other purports of his siksa guru. So he was very grateful, just like we are very grateful to someone who gives us something in Krishna consciousness. We are very grateful. So in this way he was showing his gratitude. We show gratitude to one devotee or  another. Sometimes someone is not much of a devotee but they help us to come to Krishna consciousness somehow or the other and we are grateful to them and then that person becomes benefitted because Krishna is pleased. Krishna says this in Bhagavad-gita. He is pleased.

Prabhu: So you are saying that Dhruva wasn't attached to his mother and the he was grateful to her. So that is the difference?

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: I am saying that she was a devotee. His attachment to his mother as a devotee was justified spiritually. It wasn't a material attachment. Therefore Krishna is in our heart and there are loving exchanges between devotees. Why Dhruva Maharaja a great maha-bhagavata devotee why would he be on the bodily platform of life? It is not possible but at the same time he understood that, "My mother is vartma-pradarsaka-guru. She is the person who has given me Krishna consciousness. She pushed me, she prayed for me."

That is what I was explaining. A devotee even though his parents may be material whenever there is a relationship with devotees Krishna has something to do with it.

Prabhu: You made the statement that Prabhupada said that if everyone was a gentleman then he could spread this movement worldwide in eighteen days. Sowhat is the definition of a gentleman? One definition is that he is someone for who no one is put into distress. What is the definition that Prabhupada saw/sought (?)?

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: I was explaining and emphasizing in the class, respect, amanina manadena. Respect is one of the most important aspects of  a gentleman. Ladies know that because they open the door for you. That is respect. Our mothers know that we respect them so they feel more protective. If someone is respectful he will become honored.

I would give you an example very close to home. My son, some of you may have met my son, he is very respectful and because of that everywhere we go people say, "Where is your son? Is your son coming?" They want to see my son because he is so respectful to people. I realized this point of being respectful. Prabhupada said how many devotees are still looking at the ground as they walk to see if the step on some insect? So we don't want to cause distress to anyone as you said. That is also respect because we don't want to cause any suffering to anyone.

Everyone is suffering. On the contrary we want to alleviate that suffering. Magnanimity of the heart is when you want to life the suffering. It is not material. It is spirit that is suffering. That is the devotee. He is compassionate.
Prabhu: In other places Srila Prabhupada says that this society is controlled by demons and cannot become Krishna conscious simply by gentleman like behavior. This is only applicable to the innocent like people. He also said there will hopefully be a battle because society is controlled by demoniac people. Abhiram Prabhu said in Vrindavan two weeks back that Prabhupada said in 1977at the globe is controlled by man eating raksas, drinking the blood of children. That simply by being a gentleman we can create a responsible society.

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: Sometimes being a gentleman doesn't work. In diplomacy one of the things is to be a gentleman. Sometimes it doesn't work.

Prabhu: That we could change the world in eighteen days simply by being gentleman - I think it is an incomplete quote. Did Prabhupada say this? HG Jagajivan Prabhu: Yes. There are many quotes actually.

Prabhu: What I remember is that Prabhupada said we could conquer the world in eighteen days if you all follow my instructions.

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: That is the praman. Of course Prabhupada mentions about being a gentleman. I have to look into it to see what seems to be theargument or discussion about that point.

Prabhu: About the perfect gentleman, can I comment on that?

 HG Jagajivan Prabhu: Sure.

Prabhu: On a morning walk there was a discussion. Prabhupada was saying we have to become genuine Vaisnavas and not the show bottle Vaisnavas. Sosomeone asked how do we know who is the genuine Vaisnava? Prabhupada said the genuine Vaisnava is a perfect gentleman.

HG Jagajivan Prabhu: There are many places he mentions that. You don't necessarily have the eighteen days or twenty days. We have the example of Srila Prabhupada himself. Anybody who met Srila Prabhupada personally will say he was a perfect gentleman. He was very heavy sometimes. Your head was taken off but you liked it. You were very happy because he was such a gentleman. You didn't mind. In this way sometimes it doesn't work. But because as you said there are so many demons.

Usually we see in media communications signs that someone who is very respectful and who is a gentleman his results are more positive just on a material platform. So many more positive results are there. As was pointed out that is the nature of a devotee. This is what I was bringing out. This was Dhruva Maharaja's nature. "My mother may, you better come some other day." Let her come on her own merit. Why should she come? But he was very  grateful. Apart from respect gratitude is part of a civilized person. These are qualities of a devotee that automatically come up. In one sense this concept,

Yasmin vijnate sarvam evam vijnatam bhavati [Mundaka Upanisad 1.3]
It is also there, that by worshipping Krishna all these qualities automatically manifest - spiritual and very positive material qualities are also there. They are sub products of our devotional service.  But certainly in the character of His Divine Grace we can see that apart from the spiritual aspect of this teaching Krishna consciousness or giving Krishna consciousness he was able to endear himself to a range of different people that came to him because of the way he treated them. Everyone that came received prasadam. He made sure of this. When I went to him in Los Angeles I went into his garden and I sat on the grass and he had his servant come give me something to sit on. He didn't want me to sit on grass so he gave me some place to sit. Here I was lowly twenty something year old, nothing! And here Prabhupada was offering me a seat! This trait endeared us. It is the science of civilized people. So we should become civilized devotees and become respectful to others. There is some problem with being respectful or being a gentleman with someone? That is the nature of a devotee. Devotee greets everyone.

We were walking in Caracas with Prabhupada and people were jogging. This one man comes and he sees Srila Prabhupada and he said, "Beunos dias." Whichmeans "Good Morning" in Spanish. So Srila Prabhupada asked Hrdayananda Maharaja, "What does this mean?" And Hrdayananda Maharaja said, "This meansGood Morning." And Prabhupada says, "Ah." And in Spanish Prabhupada said, "Beunos dias!" Then he said to everyone, "Beunos dias." So he was very much a gentleman and he is acarya so if we want to have success as devotees we emulate the most successful devotee. Dhruva Maharaja is also successful devotee. Prabhupada. You can also become successful and maybe by your mercy and by all of your mercy I also can become successful. So it is 9 o'clock and I will finish here. Anyone else wants to ask anything afterwards I will stay and we will discuss. You want to make a comment or a question?

All glories to Prabhupada.

If God exists - Why so much pain and suffering?

A man went to a barber shop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said, "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that," asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all these things."
