Panihati: The Festival of Punishment

panihati_slideshow.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710x

Panihati is the name of a village located in the state of West Bengal, on the banks of River Ganges (10 miles north of Kolkata). It was one of the leading trade centres in earlier days when the river route was the main means of communication. A special rice variety called Peneti was imported at this place from Jessore in Bangladesh. Probably the name Panihati might have been derived from this trade connection. Once upon a time, this place was the centre of worship of the Buddhist Tantrics and

Dear Devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

ISKCON is responding in two primary ways.

First, devotees of ISKCON’s interna

When the dacoits tried to steal the deities of Srila Prabhupada and Srimati Radharani, the devotees fearlessly challenged the attackers. How could the devotees see Srila Prabhupada and Srimati Radharani carried awa

In ISKCON Sri Mayapur itself is an act of ‘Maya’ of the Supreme Lord. The story of how Lord Narasimhadeva came to Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir is really flabbergasting to know. The story below is reproduced ‘as such’ from the Mayapur journal based on experiences of HG Atma Tattva Prabhu (ACBSP)

On the 24th of March 1984, at 12.20 a.m., thirty-five dacoits armed with weapons and bombs attacked Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir. They harassed the devotees and t

Later, when she brought the caranamrta pot back, she remarked that Lord Nrsimhadeva was very merciful to reciprocate so quickly.

“I was praying this morning that I might be able to offer some direct service to Him, and now you have given me this service.”

“Yes,” I said, “desires are quickly fulfilled in the dham. Just see, the

Rushing down for Mangal-arati, I could tell the atmosphere is always different at this time of the year, from the very little once to the very old, you can see the enthusiasm fully locked, like a tinted half rising sun, ready to spring forth an a

On behalf of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada and their Lordships, Sri Sri Radha-Madhava, Ashtasakhis, Panca-tattva and Prahlad-Nrsimha, the ISKCON M

We would have to swim from one building to another and we were not the only ones swimming. There were also cobras swimming to add some excitement. Some had rubber boats and t
