अध्याय सत्रह – पुरुरवा के पुत्रों की वंशावली (9.17)

1-3 श्रील शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा: पुरुरवा से आयु नामक पुत्र हुआ जिससे नहुष, क्षत्रवृद्ध, रजी, राभ तथा अनेना नाम के अत्यन्त शक्तिशाली पुत्र उत्पन्न हुए। हे महाराज परीक्षित, अब क्षत्रवृद्ध के वंश के विषय में सुनो। क्षत्रवृद्ध का पुत्र सुहोत्र था जिसके तीन पुत्र हुए – काश्य, कुश तथा गृत्समद। गृत्समद से शुनक हुआ और शुनक से शौनक मुनि उत्पन्न हुए जो ऋग्वेद में सर्वाधिक पटु थे।

4 काश्य का पुत्र काशी था और उसका पुत्र राष्ट्र हुआ जो दीर्घतम का पिता था।

1 श्रील शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा: हे राजा परीक्षित, पुरुरवा ने उर्वशी के गर्भ से छह पुत्र उत्पन्न किये। उनके नाम थे – आयु, श्रुतायु, सत्यायु, रय, विजय तथा जय।

2-3 श्रतायु का पुत्र वसुमन हुआ, सत्यायु का पुत्र श्रुतंजय हुआ, रय के पुत्र का नाम एक था, जय का पुत्र अमित था और विजय का पुत्र भीम हुआ। भीम का पुत्र कांचन, कांचन का पुत्र होत्रक और होत्रक का पुत्र जह्व था जिसने एक ही घूँट में गंगा का सारी पानी पी लिया था।

अध्याह चौदह – पुरुरवा का उर्वशी पर मोहित होना (9.14)

1 श्रील शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने महाराज परीक्षित से कहा: हे राजन अभी तक आपने सूर्यवंश का विवरण सुना है। अब सोमवंश का अत्यन्त कीर्तिपद एवं पावन वर्णन सुनिए। इसमें ऐल (पुरुरवा) जैसे राजाओं का उल्लेख है जिनके विषय में सुनना कीर्तिप्रद होता है।

2 भगवान विष्णु (गर्भोदकशायी विष्णु) सहस्रशीर्ष पुरुष भी कहलाते हैं। उनकी नाभि रूपी सरोवर से एक कमल निकला जिससे ब्रह्माजी उत्पन्न हुए। ब्रह्मा का पुत्र अत्री अपने पिता के ही समान योग्य था।
