Swimming and Walking Through

It was my second swim-in-the-lake for this year – a personal milestone. And with me was Brihat Mrdanga and his associate, Arjuna. Their purpose was to scrape off, with water and sand, the caked-on-make-up from the play. I was submerging for the chill of it all. It’s been a long two days on Centre Island, and the quiet time is needed. When you are a swami, there are many demands from the public. Just by sitting at one spot, person after person comes to you.

In my teens, I wo

Sinister Father Saintly Son

10669401101?profile=RESIZE_400x

“Like father like son,”
the saying goes. So how was it that
the most sinister personality ever
to darken the universe fathered a great saint?

Adapted from Srimad-Bhagavatam, translation and commentary by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

A vicious storm raged through the darkness. Pierce winds hissed again and again and uprooted gigantic trees. Thick clouds covered the sky, and lightning flashed as though laughing. The ocean with its high waves wailed as if stricken with

We had a book table in Hornsby, a northern suburb in Sydney. It was a cloudy day so there wasn’t much crowd. So I decided to walk around and approach people. I saw a young guy smoking and browsing through his phone.

I approached him and asked him if he was from Hornsby and caught up a conversation. He said he was working in the supermarket and it is his break time. I presented the Bhagavad Gita but he was a bit reluctant and was not showing much interest. I turned to the picture which shows the

With theories being established, taught, and discarded like disposable napkins, a father wonders whether his child will get a real education.

In the summer of 1970, I felt for the first time the fear that parents know when their child ventures out into the world. My daughter Emily wasn’t even three years old, a toddler. Yet one morning, as I watched her walking down the street to play, I suddenly saw her facing the whole sweep other future.

At moments like this, a person really comes face-to-fa

ISKCON Gita Nagari to host 44th country style Ratha Yatra after two-year hiatus.

After a two-year hiatus due to the global pandemic, ISKCON Gita Nagari is gearing up to celebrate its 44th Annual Ratha Yatra on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Gita Nagari Eco Farm, Port Royal, Pennsylvania.

“This is probably the only Ratha Yatra in ISKCON North America and possibly the world which is done country-style. Imagine singing and dancing to the Holy names of Krishna surrounded by natu

Urvasi Dasi was Srila Prabhupada’s beloved disciple and my dear godsister. His Divine Grace said that when a Vaishnava departs, we feel simultaneously happy and sad—sad because we will miss the Vaishnava’s association, and happy because we know they have gone to serve Krishna.

In the last few months, I have had several programs at my ashram in Carpinteria, and Urvasi attended—and enjoyed—all of them. Her presence—her humanity and divinity—uplifted our spirits and consciousness. She was always p

We had hiccups. The sound systems weren’t working for the procession at the three chariots, however some of our young men visiting from other parts of North America compensated for this by their booming voices. The sheer crowds that ended on the south-bound journey on Yonge St were stunning. So, that was not the greatest issue as far as having a successful fest. On the street and on the island, there was record breaking attendance. I was surprised and, like others, was uncertain as to how the t

While distributing books in a parking lot in Dallas, I approached a couple of men at their truck and offered them an “Easy Journey to Other Planets.”

“This book explains that there is life on other planets, and many of those planets are a lot better than this one,” I said. “We’re destroying this one. We just ask for a donation for it.”

They said, “We just gave the little cash we had to the guy there with the bike that has a dog in his front basket.”

There was this man with his dog that had sun

Sir Isaac Newton once made a remarkable model of the solar system. Thanks to a clever hand-cranking mechanism, all of the tiny spinning globes orbited a small “sun.”

On entering Newton’s study, one of his colleagues, a materialist, couldn’t help noticing the model. He was flabbergasted.

“Dr. Newton,” the man stared, “who made this wonderful contraption? The planets move

I was uncharacteristically minding my own business after a very busy day of book distribution at Fisher’s Ghost Festival in Campbelltown, in south Sydney, when Tony, a geologist, looked at the Gita in my hand and “Searching for Vedic India.”

He very solemnly said, “The best place to hide something is to keep it in plain sight.”

I asked, “What do you mean?”

He responded, “Here you are, sitting with the summum bonum of knowledge, and thousands of these people don’t even realize this.”

Janardana Maharaja is a Filipino-born person who joined Krishna Consciousness in the ’80s, right in Toronto. He came from Catholic parents. “So did I,” I mentioned to Dayananda, American born and who joined Prabhupada’s movement in ’67.

“I came from a Quaker background,” he said. From there, the three of us, sitting in Govinda’s Restaurant, dove into the deeper history of the Protestants and Catholics, and of our indigenous people in North America. I said, “I heard the Quakers and the Puritans

I usually pray before I leave for book distribution. I pray that I meet at least one sadhu who I can learn something from, and usually it happens. As I was getting ready and packing my books, about to head for the densely populated (by Arabics) Merrylands in Sydney, I was wondering, “Who is that sadhu I will meet today?”

I hung my Arabic caption around my collar and began searching for the sadhu of my day as I showed books to everybody I met.

There was a nice rhythm going on as well as decent c

Lessons on Life by Bhaktimarga Swami

Halifax and Toronto Zoom-ed together on a call to explore the first two lessons taught by Sri Krishna to Arjuna in the Bhagavad-gita. Chapter 2, verse 12 opens up in revealing the mystical trait in all of us; the eternal factor in all of us. Yes, all of us, regardless of vocation, we all live eternally. One additional point we made in our discussion is that all beings are permanent spirits.

Verse 13 elaborates more on the concept of true recycling. Our bodies, made of matter, adjust through bir

On the second day of the Chariot Fest we had more joy. As always one of the main features is people. Why are festivals put on in the first place? In order for people to have a leisurely time. Just for gaining a balance in life some recreation is required. In the context of Krishna Consciousness chanting, dancing, having some good prasadam and philosophising are tension relievers.

Another area of activity that offers comfort is what our dear Srila Prabhupada gave us; books to read and encouragin

When fall down from the spiritual worlds takes place, it means falling down from the non-fallen condition which means Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavana.

The jiva-souls can also fall further to impersonal Brahman or impersonal Brahmajyoti after becoming fed up and frustrated with the material existence and the cycle of birth and death.

In this way the fallen jiva-souls seek out the "inactivity" or a dormant state in the impersonal Brahmajyoti in an attempt to escape the suffering of repeated birth and

On July 16, two Food For Life devotees in Alchevsk (Donbass) — Krsna-tattva Prabhu, director of the program, and Madana-gopal Prabhu — were killed in a missile strike that hit the Food For Life kitchen. They had just returned from prasadam distribution to the FFL base when a missile attack destroyed the building, and they were buried under the rubble. Another devotee, Arjuna Prabhu was injured and has been taken to hospital.

The Donbass FFL program provided over 1000 hot prasadam meals weekly t
