A weekend in Cape Town

DSCF4396-300x199.jpgThe southern-most city on the African continent and famous for landmarks such as the confluence point of the Indian and Atlantic oceans, Table Mountain and Robben Island, Cape Town is also home to Sri Sri Nitai Mayapurchandra, the presiding Deities of a cosmopolitan temple/preaching centre. Maharaja arrived here late on Friday afternoon and immediately attended a house program.

The evening began with an energetic, hour-long bhajana session. The theme of FAITH dominated the class that followed and

Perfect Friendship !!

Perfect Friendship:

“In an ideal spiritual society, one no doubt does have millions of friends, but deep, spiritual friendship requires spiritual maturity.

For a lasting friendship, friends must have a common goal, a common object of love.

If our friendship is founded on pleasing Krishna without material considerations, there is hope of achieving an absolute and perfect friendship.”

Driving Ahead

Suppose I am driving a very nice car, but I am simply absorbed in the machine only. I have forgotten my destination, where I have to go, and I am busy studying the car. What is the use? You may be driving a good car, but you must know how to reach your destination. That is your main business. Knowing how the car works is secondary. Your main business is knowing how to utilize the car so you can reach your destination. That is intelligence.

So, we have fallen into this material condition, and we a

Jiva Fall down

[Modified to include the answer in the same mail]
Madhudvisa ended his report with a mention of a current controversy.

In March 1971, Subal Maharaja asked you in Bombay at "Akash Ganga": "Did we have an original lila with Krishna on Krishna Loka or Vaikuntha before we first fell to maya?" Your answer was quite distinctly, "Yes." Everybody who was there was quite surprised for we were all thinking that we were originally shining jiva souls vibrating in the brahmajyoti with our relatio

Zanzibar

We had come to attend the Nairobi Ratha Yatra in East Africa and after that thought of doing some book distribution in neighbouring Dar es salaam and Zanzibar by Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mercy. In Dar es salaam there are some devotees and there is some preaching going on. In Zanzibar, however the population is at least about ninety five percent muslims and, they are practicing muslims. Therefore there hasn't really been much done there. It is actually the birth place of the Swahili language

One thousand devotees from all over Russia gathered in Moscow for an eight-day festival from June 12th to 19th this summer, celebrating the fortieth anniversary of ISKCON Founder Srila Prabhupada’s first and only visit to the city.

The attendees included eighty veterans of ISKCON in Russia—devotees who joined during the oppressive communist reign, and before the movement’s official registration in 1988. They arrived for the festival from the Ukraine, the Baltics, and other ex-Soviet Union countri

Difference Between Gita & Vedas?

Question: Difference Between Gita & Vedas?

Gurudeva,

What is the difference between Vedic knowledge and Bhagavad-gita knowledge?  The Bhagavad-gita says that Krishna is God. But the Vedas say that God is not a person, that He is nirakara, not possessing a form.  I'm confused.

Ashi

Answer: Gita is the Perfection of Vedic Wisdom

Bhagavad-gita knowledge describing the form and personality of God is the perfection of Vedic knowledge. Although the Vedas describe nirakara, the formless, impersonal concep

relief from the blazing fire

I mean to say, ocean of suffering, , the more we want to enjoy, the more sufferings enter. More suffering. You can understand. Just now we got this car, horseless car. But now there is a problem. They are thinking, "If there is no petrol available, then what will happen?" So this is material existence.... Anxiety. That anxiety is suffering, "What will happen? What will happen?" That is material existence. Always full of anxiety. This is material life. So Narottama dasa Thakura says that "The hea

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada

This is what happened when an Australian  devotee girl was dying in Vrindavana in 2008 and Jamal is her father.

1.     Just before Lila left the room was full of devotees having a "blazing kirtan".

Jamal said that he felt something lightly touch his arm from behind and when he turned around he saw Srila Prabhupada standing there fully manifest as we would see each other.

Jamal told her that Srila Prabhupada looked deep into his eyes to his very soul and simply nodded at him gravely. What happened

Emphasis should be on cooperation

The small offset press at Sydney Temple was turning out a variety of pamphlets and small booklets for street distribution on a fairly large scale. Standard, small booklets like Krsna, The Reservoir of Pleasure and On Chanting Hare Krsna were popular. Other, "home-grown" pamphlets like What Colour is God? and Who's Feeding this Fellow? were a novelty. Consequently, in the same spirit of "transcendental competition" that had inspired inter-temple refurbishment, the

Can a Devotee Make a Difference?

Question: Can a Devotee Make a Difference?

I am someone who is interested in being of service to the world rather than to myself. This is something I have been involved in for years. From being a small child I was always interested in others before myself and when I look at what I really want it is for the world to be a better place. I love people, humanity and want to make a lasting difference. When people speak of attaining enlightenment I have always been clear I didn't come here for that in t

I believe that if someone has worked hard, achieved some measure of success, and is willing to help, I’d be a fool not to listen! Plus, as you probably already know, almost everyone loves to give advice.

Unfortunately, many people miss out on one of the surest shortcuts to success:
to seek out, listen to, and take advice. So often, when a person struggles, he or she is very close to a major breakthrough. They are literally “an inch away” from achieving their goals and dreams. If they would just

WHERE TO FIND HAPPINESS

Everywhere in this universe, in one respect man’s condition is the same. No matter how
vastly different he may be in the outer appearance of his life, different countries, different races, different cultures, different languages, different ways of living, eating, dressing, etc., he may be completely different in all of these aspects, but there is one thing that is the same to all human individuals.

And it is this factor that binds them into a global unity. If analyzed, it will be discovered that a

A devotee's only concern

A devotee's only concern     ………....Droplets from Nectarean Ocean

This human form of life is an opportunity for self-realization, to realize God. This human form of life is such a gift, it is so precious, it is so valuable that we can never understand. To even utilize one moment of it for any other purpose is sorrowful. Therefore the devotees of the Lord are not very concerned with heat or cold, happiness or distress, honour or dishonour. They are only concerned with one thing -
