Thought Of The Day

Prabhupada: Yes. Society and economic condition, everything should be so arranged that this human child should be gradually pushed for perfection of life, go back home, back to Godhead. This is civilization. And modern civilization is "Don't care for what is going to happen. So long you live, eat, drink, be merry, enjoy," that's all. Sense gratification. This is called nastika-vada. Very dangerous. And that is going on all over the world. How a gentleman can live in that society?

Short Answer: It signifies the burning of the impurities of our heart and the subsequent realization of our spiritual glory.

Answer: Let’s first understand the significance of festivals themselves.

In traditional Vedic culture, festivals served a purpose that has been almost forgotten nowadays. They were primarily meant to bring humanity closer to divinity; they served as occasions for people to put aside their worldly preoccupations and focus on the Lord and His glorious deeds, as connected

Wonderful pastime of Sri Narasimha Deva -(submitted by HG Shyam gopal prabhu)
Now allow me to tell a true story that happened some 10 years ago in
South-Africa. The father and the daughter who experienced this event told
this story to my friend, a sannyasi and devotee of Lord Nrisimhadev.
This stories was also found in the newspapers, and several witnesses of this

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

It is extremely essential to associate with the spiritual master and with Vaisnavas who are fullysurrendered to the spiritual master.  Unless we associate with Vaisnavas, how will unqualified people like ourselves learn the proper code of conduct and come to serve Guru ?  We always need ideal examples. If we don’t associate with Vaisnavas who are fixed at the spiritual master’s lotus feet, attached to chanting the holy na

What are the symptoms of atma-nivedana ?

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

To surrender everything to Krishna is called Atma-nivedana. The symptoms of Atma-nivedana are to become free from all selfish endeavour and to dovetail all endeavours for Krishna’s pleasure, just as apurchased cow does not endeavour for her own maintenance. One should also remain subordinate to Krishna’s will and surrender one’s independence to Him.

‘Jaiva Dharma’, chapter 19, as cited on page 85

Grihamedhi vs Grhastha :

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Simply living in a home with a husband/wife and children does not make one a Grhastha. A grihamedhi is one who lives externally in a Grhastha environment but whose goal of life is sense enjoyment.

A Grhastha lives a God centered life. He knows the ultimate goal of life but is not able to be completely renounced. A Grhastha is aware that the sense gratification permitted to him will eventually lead to misery and therefore

Mayapur trip

Hare Krishna.

By the mercy of Sri Guru and Gauranga I was able to visit Sri Mayapur Dhama and then to Jagannath Puri this week. I can write pages and pages about my experience there and am sure the same will be the case with most of us who travel to Dhama and come back with varied realisations and observations. I will try to summarise my experience in brief at both the Dhams in short.

Sri Mayapur Dhama

I had gone, for the first time, to Mayapur, almost the same time last year with
