Thought Of The Day

Simply by associating with a pure devotee, one becomes wonderfully advanced in Krsna consciousness. Sadhu-sanga, or association with a devotee, means always engaging in Krsna consciousness by chanting the Hare Krsna mantra... but he whose heart is contaminated sees things differently. Therefore by sat-sanga, or association with devotees, one becomes perfectly pure in heart.-By H.D.G. Srila Prabhupada

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Please accept our humble pranams! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev !!

Recently we had gone through a real nightmare which I would like to share with all of you as it is still fresh in my memory. On 29th May 2011, my wife (HG Shilpa devi dasi) who was at the 7 month of her pregnancy was hospitalized. At 2 am she had severe bleeding and I had to drive her to the hospital, which was 60 miles away in a nei

HDG. AC BhaktiVedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada

Sa vai manah krsna-padaravindayor vacamsi vaikuntha-gunanuvarnane [SB 9.4.18].

You engage your senses. So this is practice. First of all think of the Deity. First of all think of the lotus feet, then the knees, then the eyes, then the belly, then the chest. In this way, as you become practiced, then go further, advance. In this way, when you become fully practiced, then automatically, in whatever condition you are, you will be able to meditate upon Krs

Good Questions In The Japa Room

4%2Bkumaras%2Bpreach.jpg
We had a very successful opening of the Japa Room yesterday....at one stage 26 devotees were in attendance and many good questions and comments were made in the chat room. One very good question was about the time when we should chant - someone asked is it OK to make up our rounds the next day if we had a busy day?....and another about chanting half our Japa quota before going to work and chanting the rest when returning home.
It got me thinking about the importance of rising as early as possible

Three last wishes!

Alexander, the great Greek king, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home.  On the way, he fell ill and it took him to his death bed.  So, the mighty conqueror lay prostrate and pale, helplessly waiting to breathe his last.

He called his generals and said, "I will depart from this world soon, I have three wishes, please carry them out without fail."  With tears flowing down their cheeks, the generals agreed to abide by their king's last wishes.  "My first desire is that," said Alexand

Devotees must never be lazy

Srila Prabhupada explains that, sleep is only to recover from the fatigue due to working hard. The devotees are meant to work very hard. Devotees must never be lazy. All the great acharyas condemn laziness. When we are lazy, we are just opening the doors for Maya to rush into our mind and take complete control.  Therefore we must be very active, we must be very busy in hearing the glories of the Lord, in chanting the glories of the Lord and in rendering service by executing the instructions of t

Question: How Can Krishna Not Know His Potency?

Gurudeva, I request you to enlighten me on this phrase: "The wonderful potency of the Supreme Lord Krishna is bewildering even to the jugglers. That potential power is unknown even to the self-sufficient Lord, so it is certainly unknown to others."
--Srimad Bhagavatam-Canto 3, Chapter 6, Verse 39

Gurudeva, you have told us that Krishna is the Supreme. So how is this possible that Lord's potency is even unknown to the Lord Himself when He knows everyt

Purpose of installing deities

In New Zealand, as in Australia, Srila Prabhupada had again installed Radha and Krsna. In Sydney, one year before, he had asked Krsna to please take care of Himself if the mlecchas-turned-devotees committed offences. Upon returning, he saw that the worship was going on nicely. Radha and Krsna had then come to Melbourne. Now, Prabhupada had again asked the Lord to come. On his invitation, along with the sound of kirtana, Krsna had been received in yet another simple s

Radhanath Swami Entering Istanbul

Radhanath-Swami-Entering-Istanbul2.jpg

When Radhanath Swami and his friends asked the border guard the way to Istanbul, the guard pointed to a lonely country road. It stretched out into the darkness of the hilly, fertile country of Eastern Thrace. As they walked, Radhanath Swami saw for the first time the minaret of a stone mosque. The mosque’s dome and spires fascinated him and he was thrilled to see a place of God. There was no traffic on the road and Istanbul was still 150 miles away. What now? As they stood wondering how they wou

Learning from a Blind Boy

Blind-Poor-Boy_1.jpg

One last evening in Kandahar, while in a dim crowded tea stall, Radhanath Swami squatted on the floor with the locals. Suddenly everyone’s attention focused on a blind boy who stumbled in carrying a rustic wooden instrument with a single string nailed across it. He was perhaps sixteen years old, and like the others, wore soiled rags that loosely covered his emaciated body.

Radhanath Swami’s heart quaked—nothing covered his blinded, disfigured eyes. Despite his extreme poverty, he smiled radiantly

Ghee Lamps in a Bag and the Lord in My Hands

Volume 11, Chapter 14
Feb 27, 2011

HH Indradyumna Swami Maharaj

In India I am always on the lookout for interesting puja items, so the other day in Jaipur, I visited the antique shop of Mr. Sharma, an old friend. As I walked in he greeted me and we sat down to talk.

“Do you have anything interesting for me?” I asked.

“Yes,” he said. “I’ve kept aside a few small items you can use for puja.”

“Great!” I said.

As Mr. Sharma looked through the desk drawers for t

The Lord Gives Inspiration

Today we will see the explanation on how Lord is so kind especially to
unsophisticated devotees.

Buddhuram was an unsophisticated farmer in a small village in Gujarat. He
doesn't know anything. He could not read or write. One day Buddhuram went
home after tendering the calves and his wife was just complaining and
shouting at him. Buddhuram's wife always regretted marrying him. She said,
"After all his name is Buddhuram and on top of that he has no buddhi. He is
a highly silly man and only knows how to

Question & Answers

1. Why do people insist on looking outside themselves for a reason for their life?

Note:
The real hunger is internal, and man is trying to satisfy it by externals. There is no satisfaction outside the satisfaction of the soul in its blissful relationship with the Super Soul Sri Krishna.

>>> Ref. VedaBase => Satisfaction

We deal mainly with externals, and have little capacity for spiritual subtleties
It is a challenge to us all to see beyond externals, abuses, and fall downs in order to see eternal Kr
