We've Got to Get Out of Here

We do not belong here in this material existence. Just as a fish does not belong out of the water, we do not belong in this material world. We are not meant to suffer the pangs of birth, death, old age, and disease. We are meant to instead experience an eternal life, full of bliss and knowledge.

What are we doing here? How did we end up in this miserable place? It was simply a stupid mistake and there is not much more to be stated in this connection. We thought that we would like to try being th

The Nature of Karma

In the past man was naturally religious, but in modern time we are soimpressed by our own strength: "Oh, the things we can do! Oh it isamazing! We have nuclear power plants and three hundred and fifty inthe world! And each of these monsters can blow up a whole Country ifit explodes! But of course, we can control it and there is a controlmeltdown. But then all the toxic etc are entering into the air, andinto the water and so on….and just wait upon us".Like this, man is also playing with great pow

Trust God and Distrust the Mind

One of the major stumbling blocks for a Bhakti Yogi has been to contend with the restless mind. Few teachers openly discuss this subject matter. Many spiritualists implore us to not worry too much about the mind. Popular meditation classes and yoga sessions avoid touching this sensitive topic lest the prospective candidates get discouraged from pursuing spirituality. But ignoring the mind while discussing spirituality is as incongruent as a businessman refusing to think of money. A spiritual pat

The Nectar of the Holy Name

Even though he was sinful, Ajamila's casual chanting was inoffensivebecause it was not performed to counteract his sinful activities:Srila Visvanatha CakravartiThakura's commentary to texts nine and tenof this chapter form a dialogue concerning how one can become freefrom all sinful reactions simply by chanting the holy name of theLord....Ajamila had named his son Narayana, and because he loved the boy verymuch, he would call him again and again. Although he was calling forhis son, the name itse

Scriptural Validation

Hare Krishna,Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Most yajnas are done to demigods, yes, some are done to Yajna Purusha, or Vishnu, but it is an indirect process in many cases... there is no general answer because Karma Kanda is complex and there are many many many instructions there. It is easy to slip up.Basically, the effects of Karma Kanda are described by Krishna in Bhagavad Gita...te taḿ bhuktvā svarga-lokaḿ viśālaḿkṣīṇe puṇye martya-lokaḿ viśantievaḿ trayī-dh

From Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Vaibhava, an inspiring account of the extraordinary
life and teachings of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, compiled and
written by His Holiness Bhakti Vikasa Swami.  In Chapter Ten of Part Two of
Volume One, Bhakti Vikasa Maharaj writes:

"From there they journeyed more than a day to Ujjain, where they visited an
ancient and important temple of Lord Shiva, and also the place where Krsna
and Balarama were schooled by Sandipani Muni. Srila Sarasvati Thakura spoke

Hare Krishna,From Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures, it is understood that Bhakti is not dependent on any other activities - Bhakti is "Ahaituki" (without expectation of any return)and "Apratihata" (that which cannot be checked). Specifically, hearing and chanting are not dependent on Samskaras. Otherwise, how is it that persons born in so-called uncultured families became such great devotees without any samskaras being performed at the appropriate age? We can see this in Srila Prabhupada's gre

Most Unfortunate Thing

Most unfortunate thingMohanananda was becoming increasingly morose and alienated from the devotees. He was not chanting his prescribed number of rounds nor attending the daily spiritual program, and it was obvious to many devotees that he was not strictly following the regulative principles. In early August, 1972, Mohanananda voluntarily relinquished his position as the president of the Sydney temple and GBC assistant, agreeing to spend more time on the printing press. An election was held and de

Seek Opportunity, Not Security

"Seek Opportunity, Not Security"Prabhupada advised one gentleman who was coming to him for advice, and he said: "Do not seek security, seek opportunity!"So our tendency in this world is we want to make a nice comfortable nest for ourselves in this material existence, some secure position here, but there is no such thing as security. You may think you have security here but there is absolutely NO security in this material existence! So therefore instead of seeking security, we should seek the oppo

Expansion in Australia

In Melbourne, conflict with city authorities did nothing to hinder the expanding preaching opportunities. Seven new devotees had joined in a matter of weeks. "That new devotees are coming is a sign of our success," Srila Prabhupada had written. Madhudvisa's monthly report, sent on 27 October 1972 was a glowing one:

Here in Australia, your children have been spreading your glories very enthusiastically. This can be seen through the increase of books distributed in Sydney and

A TRAIN COMPANION

(One more time about praying life)

Adjata Shatru das (Gaurendu das who has already left his body)

“I am convinced that the biggest problem of ISKCON and  the reason of all the difficulties we are facing now is that in pursuit of external developments (huge temples, millions of distributed book, etc.) we forget about our main responsibility – to learn to love Krsna.”

In 1995 I saw Satsvarupa das Goswami Maharaja’s book – “Entrance into a praying life” for the first time. I

How to be linked up with Srila Prabhupada

hansadutta.jpg

A devotee in Texas wrote in, asking what to do, how to be properly connected with Srila Prabhupada. He is certainly not the only one. There are many devotees like him all over the world, so I hope this helps others who likewise want to understand their situation in relationship to Prabhupada.

Dear Bhakta Ronnie, obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Thank you for your nice letter (letter follows). You have asked, “What exactly is a devotee like me supposed to do? How do I get linked up with

What is Hariyali Teej?

Hariyali Teej is a festival celebrated in Shukla-paksha in the month of Shravana (August) during the rainy season. In 2010, Hariyali Teej is celebrated on 12 August. Hariyali relates to green and teej represents three. It means that the green festival is celebrated on the third day of Shravana. At this season, the fields turn lush green and the festivity is an invitation to prosperity. Some people regard it as a harvest festival. Hariyali Teej is often recognised as a festi

WHAT I FIND MOST BEAUTIFUL IN THIS WORLD.

As the famous saying goes " Beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder". So no doubt our conception of beauty may differ a lot from others. Nonetheless, it is a pleasure sharing with you my idea of beauty. Poets, writers authors all have been glorifying the beauty of this world since time immemorial. But i pity those who think that beauty is just skin deep. The most beautiful things in this world are felt more than they are seen. .Have you ever experienced the feeling of the morning dew o

Ahimsa- Slaughter Free milk

2514841539?profile=original

Organic milk from cows that will be retired to a sanctuary once their milking days are over is starting its first deliveries this week in north London and surrounding areas,  bringing about a revolution in milk production.

No cow, calf or bull will ever be slaughtered to bring this quality product to the breakfast table and they will instead be protected for life, ensuring families can be confident no animal suffers to bring them milk.

The breakthrough has been made possible by the Ahimsa D

Being Immortal

Matter changes in six phases: birth, growth, maintenance, production of by-products, dwindling, and death. But the life within matter, the spirit soul, is eternal; it goes through no such changes. Life appears to be developing and decaying, but actually it is simply passing through each of these six phases until the material body can no longer be maintained. Then the old body dies, and the soul enters a new body. When our clothing is old and worn, we change it. Similarly, one day our bodies beco

Chanting Tips

Complete concentration is necessary. Otherwise your rounds are done, butthey aren't done well. You're just trying to get the job done, like afactory worker. You get the credit that "I chanted my rounds," but therewill be far more credit if you chant with the right quality. Attentivedoesn't mean only that you don't fall asleep or that you don't leave off a"Hare," but it means being attentive to how Krsna may reveal within yourheart more understanding of the holy name. But you have to concentrate.
