We've Got to Get Out of Here

We do not belong here in this material existence. Just as a fish does not belong out of the water, we do not belong in this material world. We are not meant to suffer the pangs of birth, death, old age, and disease. We are meant to instead experience an eternal life, full of bliss and knowledge.

What are we doing here? How did we end up in this miserable place? It was simply a stupid mistake and there is not much more to be stated in this connection. We thought that we would like to try being the Supreme. Our desire was so strong that the Supreme Person gave us a place where we could think that we are the Supreme, that we are the center of the universe. Of course we cannot be the Supreme because we are not the Supreme, but here in this material world under the influence of the Lord's illusory energy we can be absolutely convinced that we are the center of the universe. Of course, we are part of the Supreme, but we are not the Complete Whole Supreme. We are qualitatively one with the Supreme but quantitatively different.

Some people want to deny the existence of the Supreme, but this is a patently ludicrous proposal. Everywhere we see gradations of opulences. Someone is more wealthy; someone is less wealthy. Someone is very famous; someone else is completely unknown. Someone is very beautiful; others are ugly. One person is very powerful; others are less powerful. We cannot say that everyone possesses the same amount of opulences. Somewhere, therefore, there is a person who is more opulent than anyone else. That person is the Supreme.

If we can't beat Him, we should join Him. This is smart thinking. Why maintain a position of enmity towards the Supreme and be forced to suffer countless miserable births in separation from Him, when we can develop a friendly submissive mood towards Him and enjoy unlimited nectar at every minute? This is intelligence. The problem is that nowadays practically no one has any intelligence. People continue to make the same stupid mistake of trying to imitate the Supreme birth after birth after birth.

How do we get out this quagmire? We require the mercy of the devotee of the Lord. By his association the long-forgotten innate tendency to surrender fully to the Lord, which is currently buried deep within the heart, becomes reawakened. If we are fortunate enough to come into contact with the Lord's pure devotee we can be saved from this hellish repetition of birth and death. We can revive our original relationship with the Lord in his most wonderful Spiritual Sky.

Therefore if we find ourselves to be so fortunate as to have come into contact with the pure devotee of the Lord, we must fully take advantage of this unparalleled opportunity and submit ourselves to him for training in the science of bhakti, devotional service to the Supreme, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna.
