Avoid the Fallacious Mayavadis

A Mayavadi is someone who sticks to the principle that the form of God is maya or an illusion. The Mayavadis use very sophisticated world jugglery to try to establish their false conclusion. Those who are not learned in the Vedic wisdom can easily be razzle-dazzled or misled by Mayavadi philosophy. Here is a classic example of their philosophy as stated by a popular Mayavadi guru:I am that Brahman which is bliss, which is eternal, effulgent, all-pervasive, the substratum of names and forms, whic

An illustration of how the principle of anugraha works is this: Someone steals your car. Later you find out who it was, and the thief knows that youknow. The thief comes to your house and very humbly apologizes, "I did it. I made a mistake. I wasnt in a proper state of mind, but I did do it and I begforgiveness." The owner of the car forgives the thief. That is ksama, forgiveness. Anugraha, gaining the favor of the offended party, is different. In the act of forgiveness one has given up anger or

Vanaprasta Asrama and Tapasya

In Bhagavad-gita it is recommended that even though one enters the renounced order of life, he still cannot give up the performance of yajna, dana and tapasya. They are never to be given up. Tapasya is meant for the renounced order of life; those who are retired from worldly activities should perform tapasya, penances and austerities. Those who are in the material world, the ksatriyas and vaisyas, must give charity. Brahmacaris, in the beginning of their lives, should perform different kinds of

Thought Of The Day

Bhakti-yoga system is to engage the senses and the mind in Krsnas service. If your mind is engaged in Krsnas service, then there is very little scope for the mind being diverted from it. It diverts, but if you practice, then Krsna will help you.(Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.15.41), Los Angeles, 19.12.1973by H.D.G. Srila Prabhupada

Self-Confidence for a Devotee?

Question: Self-Confidence for a Devotee?

Dear Guru Maharaja:

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Can you give me some guidance on self-confidence? What's the relation between Krishna consciousness and self-confidence, and how to be self-confident in Krishna consciousness? Once you told me the main thing in business is my self-confidence, not what I eat. After I graduate, I find that self-confidence is important in both spreading Krishna consciousness and in sales job

Evening class

After evening arati, Srila Prabhupada spoke in the temple room packed with guests and devotees on Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 9 verse 2 -- one of Prabhupada's favourite verses:

pratyaksavagamam dharmyam
su-sukham kartum avyayam.

"This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realisation, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, a

Dear Gurudeva,

Why is it that (in the Hare Krishna movement) you do not eat onions and
garlic?

After all they are vegetables, are they not? One can understand the
prohibition against meat-eating. But what is wrong with eating garlic and
onions? Surely there's no more violence committed when we eat an onion than
when we eat a potato.

God is always around us

A man whispered, "God, speak to me" and a cuckoo bird sang. But, the man did not hear.

So the man yelled, "God, speak to me" and the thunder rolled across the sky. But, the man did not listen.

The man looked around and said, "God, let me see you." And a star shined brightly. But the man did not see.

So, the man cried out in despair, "Touch me God, and let me know you are here." Whereupon, God reached down and touched the man. But, the man brushed the butterfly away, and walked on.

The man cried, "Go

Each person views the world differently

When someone acts in a way that seems strange to you, rather than reacting in your usual way, such as, “I can’t believe they would do that,” instead say something to yourself like “I see, that must be the way she sees things in her world. Very interesting.”

When you are genuinely curious about the way someone reacts or the way they feel about something, it’s unlikely that you will be annoyed.

When you are interested in other perspectives, it doesn’t imply, even slightly, that you’re advocating it
