In the 1970s Srila Prabhupada spoke forcefully against the philosophical materialism which for some time has functioned as the dominant philosophy behind the sciences, and most other academic fields (1). Prabhupada insisted that consciousness and life itself could not be reduced to the unconscious mechanics of material objects and processes. As a direct result of this teaching that “life comes from life” and not from dead matter, the Bhaktivedanta Institute for Higher Studies (BIHS) was formed

To Hell with Lust by Achyut Gopal Das

Yayati.devayani.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xLust is something that is so much eulogized by the world and it is something that occupies all of one's mind space and heart space. It is a powerful energy that can potentially consume anyone and everyone in it's magical grip. Even though it is so much the goal of everyone in this world, the wise and the experienced see it as a peace sucking, hellish emotion. We may consider lust to be our best friend but the reality is that, lust is our worst enemy which will destroy our peace, our happiness,

Nimai allowed me to take the lead and direction for the early evening stroll. “Let’s head for Casa Loma, the castle that’s in our neighbourhood,“ I suggested. So we did and Nimai was so surprised that this treasure of a building is so close by. We took that very street to the west of the edifice and then viola! There it was an all its splendour.

02. Those who are served should be very clean, peaceful, and satisfied. They should eat before serving, if necessary. They should try not to speak while serving.
03. Serve just the right amount so that nothing is wasted.

The Baked Potato Lila by Govinda Dasi

At New Jersey, my chores consisted of various household duties aside from my artwork for “Back to Godhead”. I cleaned the kitchen, washed Swamiji’s clothes – he was still called Swamiji at that time -, made the beds, mopped the floors, and cleaned everything. I enjoyed serving him any way I could and of course, I picked him roses every day. It was with great joy that I did everything. Kirtanananda however, did the cooking, as I was not trained in cooking. I had been a college student, just prio

Questions! by Bhaktimarga Swami

4391364481?profile=RESIZE_710xI make a point of taking a walk every afternoon. Reasons? I need the good Spring air. I need to connect with others who are feeling the same need, and I do it at a solid distance with a glance and a smile.

With temperatures above 0°C,  I find it quite pleasant; no coat required. With just my kurta and dhoti (upper and lower garments), I fair fine. I pull my beads out from the bead bag, not only to chant on them—uttering the maha mantra—but to let other pedestrians there in the park know that I

From “On the Holy Name” at Kirtan-mela in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Oct 5, 2019:

Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura explains that if we are humble will seek the help of another. Otherwise, we will not be inclined.

Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura said that “trnad api” is the siddha-pranali, the mantra to attain perfection.

Lord Caitanya said to string that verse on the garland of the holy name and wear it around your neck.

Lord Caitanya says that even if a tree is drying up, it does not ask for

Rupa Goswami

Rupa Goswami describes devotional service (bhakti) as subhadatvam or ‘all-auspicious’. As evidence of this he chose to demonstrate it by the life and qualities of a devotee. The devotee is endearing and endeared by others, they develop all good qualities, and they li

Dear Sukadeva,

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter, undated, and I have noted the contents…

One of the symptoms of a devotee is that he is kind, so if our Godbrother becomes ill it is our duty to help him get the proper medicine and treatment so that he can recover…. So there is no question of ill treating of our own Godbrothers simply because they are sick, nor should you allow such neglect to go on. So long we have

Haridasa Thakura said that if the holy name is being chanted purely when the cleansing has been done, then the holy name will give us real love of God. He continued that it is said that it is just like the rising of the sun.

In the morning, before the sun rises, there is already light in the sky but the sun is still behind the horizon. You do not see the disc of the sun, yet the light is already there. Then slowly, the red disc of the sun comes along the horizon, and then we see the sunlight di

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi said in his recent address to BJP party workers to not give up and to not get tired (NA HARNA HAI - NA THAKNA HAI) in this long haul fight against the Corona virus, for the simple reason that, there is no other option. I was thinking that as devotees, this should also be our motto in our long haul fight against the viruses of lust, anger, greed, envy and pride in our hearts, for the simple reason that there is no other option.

An invisible virus – not here to please
Has locked us all in a very deep freeze
The source of which is our very own fault
Mistreatment of animals is the cause of the halt
Think of the chicks crammed in one place
Think of the cows all tight in one space
Think of the bats that are in your soup
Think of the pigs all killed in a group
Think of the flesh of an ape as your lunch
Think of the dog on a plate as your brunch
Get down to the root, yes we are the cause
Blame it on God – please take a pause

The personal concept of the universe is very important. It is a devotional universe. Yes, there are demons in the upper regions of the universe and also in these regions. Demons are everywhere. As long as we take shelter we do not need to worry. Someone came to me in anxiety and said, “I have to talk to you very urgently. There is a conspiracy from the reptilians – from the abode of the nagas.”

We have read in the Srimad Bhagavatam that the nagas are residing on the planetary systems below our

ISKCON UK has been amongst the worst affected communities by COVID-19, with twenty-one confirmed cases in the greater London area congregation, and five devotees passing away.

Although the names of the others have not been officially released by their families, one of the deceased was Rameshvara Das, a disciple of Bhakti Charu Swami in his mid-seventies. A devotee for over thirty years, Rameshvara was instrumental in the campaign to save Bhaktivedanta Manor from closure i
