A Russian court has dismissed a call to ban an edition of the Hindu holy book Bhagvad Gita, in a case that triggered protests in India.

Prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk wanted the edition to be ruled “extremist”. That would put it in the same category as Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

The Russian foreign ministry said it was the commentary on the text, not the text itself, that was under scrutiny.
The edition - Bhagvad Gita As It Is - is used by the Hare Krishna movement.

Sri Radha, Manjari Bhava, and Bhavollasa Rati

Sri Radha, Manjari Bhava, and Bhavollasa Rati

By Swami B. V. Tripurari

Gaudiya Vaishnavas are fond of chanting “Jaya Radhe!” Love of Radha, Sri Krishna’s principle consort, is central to this theistic school of Vedanta. Such love is described as the brightest jewel of sacred aesthetic rapture,unnatojjvala rasa. This love is accessible to devotees following in the footsteps of Sri Rupa Goswami both in terms of his teaching onbhakti rasa in general and in terms of his own personal ideal of sacred ae

Vishnu sahasranama is the essence of the Mahabharata. Mahabharata also confirms the Lord’s appearance in the Kali-yuga as Sri Caitanya as follows:

suvarna-varno hemango

varangas candanangadi
sannyasa-krc chamah santo
nistha-santi-parayanah

The Lord (in the incarnation of Gaurasundara) has a golden complexion. Indeed, His entire body, which is very nicely constituted, is like molten gold. Sandalwood pulp is smeared all over His body. He will take the fourth order of spiritual life (sannyasa) and

Ballad of the Gita Lover

In Tomsk, there's angst;

About a Scripture in fame,
That man goeth against;
Truth, is verily a shame.

"Consign to Siberia",
Oft' heard as nowhere;
But with a new criteria;
'tis here now somewhere !

'Cos to ban they chose,
The Gita - a love tale;
Then Of souls there arose;
In India, a gale !

To surrender soul and mail,
For pure Love is amiss,
The Gita doth detail;
'Cos religions' no bliss !

How be it extreme ?
For a father's such care;
Now, He is the Supreme,
& In Love 'tis all fair.

Extremist notion,
prosecutors foi

Thought Of The Day

So people have got the tendency for sense gratification. That is the material disease. So instead of satisfying your senses, try to satisfy the senses of Krsna. Then you become liberated. This is called cikitsitam. There is sense gratification. Here when you chant and dance, this is not your sense gratification; this is Krsna's sense gratification: "Oh, these devotees, they are glorifying Me, they are dancing. Blessed they are." Immediately you draw attention of Krsna, because it is bhakti.

Russian court refuses to ban Gita: Report

Moscow: Press Trust of India says that a court in Tomsk has turned down a petition that asked for a ban on a translated version of Bhagavad Gita.

The petition was originally filed in June in Siberia and has created a diplomatic stress point for India and Russia.

India's External Affairs Minister SM Krishna met the Russian Ambassador Alexander Kadakin earlier this week to discuss the matter.

Prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk have argued that the Russian translation of "Bhagavad Gita As It I

The Deity of Amiya Nimai – Vrindaban

Sri Amiya Nimai, another stunning deity of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (the largest deity of Sri Chaitanya in Vrindavan, about 7 feet tall!).

In the disciple succession of Sri Gopal Bhatta Goswami, Sri Sarvabhauma Madhusudan Goswami got the privilege to worship the self manifested deity of Sri Radha Ramanji in Vrindaban. He was a great scholar of nyaya (Sanskrit grammar), a preacher, a social reformer, and a great devotee. During his life-time, he toured around various parts of India a number of tim

Srila Acharyadeva asked us to post this here. It's a beautiful testimony to HG Yamuna Devi by Kalakantha Prabhu, enjoy!  A Few Memories of Yamuna Devi

My wife Jitamitra and I became close to Yamuna and Dinatarine Prabhus over the last five years. We run a fairly intense college outreach program. Some years ago, looking for a place to get away during the summer breaks, we decided to spend some time in Saranagati, as we had lived and served in Vancouver temple years ago and had many friends there.

Yamuna-devi and Srila Prabhupada–Vani and Vapuh

2514852632?profile=original

In 1971 Srila Prabhupada went to Allahabad for the Ardha-kumbha-mela, and Yamuna-devi and I were in the party that accompanied him. Srila Prabhupada spoke on the story of Ajamila and the holy name, from the Sixth Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Only the first two cantos had been translated and published, so Prabhupada read from his Sanskrit Bhagavatam with commentaries, sometimes translating from Sridhara Svami’s and occasionally from Jiva Gosvami’s. While there, I heard that Srila Prabhupada had sa

Her Grace Yamuna Devi

With great sadness, the Governing Body Commission (GBC) of ISKCON, deeply mourn the departure of Her Grace Yamuna Devi. She dedicated the last 45 years of her life to the worship of Krishna and Srila Prabhupada. She was a mentor, guide, and friend to many and a beloved member and hero of ISKCON. At every ISKCON temple, her singing of "Govindam" greets the Lord.

Yamuna Devi was one of the most influential devotees during ISKCON's fledgling years. She was among a handful of people who established

Moscow courts had dismissed Gita cases

Tomorrow at 12:30 hours IST, Tomsk court, Russia, is due to pass its verdict on banning the Bhagavad Gita. An "anti-cult" group affiliated to the Russian Orthodox Church, has called for a ban on the Gita terming it an 'extremist' text. And the verdict can have far reaching repercussions - either way.

An expert panel was constituted to examine if the text incites religious hatred and humiliation.

"Banning the Gita as an extremist piece of literature would mean banning the Russian chapter of the Int
