I want a new drug.

2515179259?profile=original

In the 1960s and 70s, young people all over America experimented with various drugs – LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, Marijuana, and others – hoping to taste something sublime.
Many of the popular songs of that era reflect the culture’s fascination with drugs and the possibilities they seemed to present. For instance, in 1967, the band, Jefferson Airplane, released the song, White Rabbit , and songwriter, Jimi Hendrix, sang, Purple Haze . These thematic songs, and many others of the time, inspired t

Mahatma das: Chanting means to enter Krishna’s world and put your world on hold.
It’s so ironic sometimes, when we’re chanting instead of being absorbed in Krishna or krishna leela or something about Krishna we are absorbed about what am I going to do later today, the problems I have to solve, the appointments I have to meet etc. So we’re actually absorbed in our world rather than Krishna’s world and to me that’s quite ironic because we are chanting Krishna’s Holy Names. In the more advanced st

On one occasion, when Srila Prabhupada, and Goursundar and I, arrived in San Francisco, there was a new painting of Narada Muni hanging on the temple wall. I was impressed. It was one of Jadurani’s latest works. Jadurani’s technique had improved immeasurably, and her proportions were also much better. Her colors were more subtle, so the painting showed great technical improvement over her past works. Looking at it from a purely technical point of view, as a trained artist, it was indeed much be

From Back to Godhead

Though Prabhupada was present for only the first eleven years of ISKCON’s fifty-year history, he continues to guide and inspire his followers to expand what he began.

“It’s an astonishing story. If someone told you a story like this, you wouldn’t believe it. Here’s this person, he’s seventy years old, he’s going to a country where he’s never been before, he doesn’t know anybody there, he has no money, has no contacts. He has none of the things, you would say, that make for

You cannot just love like that. At first, love is in practice. We can say, love-under-construction just as in work-in-progress. So called love-at-first-sight does not go so deep. Love at first sight may be the initial attraction but how deep does it go?

Love for Krsna develops by finding out more and more about Krsna: who he is, what he does, what he says, what he likes… and then, if we begin to act in such a way that is pleasing to Krsna, then gradually everything becomes favourable.

Then we b

Surrendering our False Ego.

2515178893?profile=original

Question: Our BG discussion group has been rambling for lack of our ability to grapple with the meaning of ‘ego’. All of us generally agree that spirituality is about surrendering the ego or getting rid of 'I-consciousness’. But understanding it conceptually itself seems a challenge. We discussed 'I am not the body, I am the soul’, and 'I am the eternal servant of the lord’ aspects. We also cited the example of sage Valmiki - he must have lost consciousness of body altogether. We would apprecia

How to connect to the Divine.

2515179256?profile=original

Question: It is said that God is present everywhere. But I don’t perceive his presence anywhere. Can you explain?
Radhanath Swami: To connect to the Divine presence of God within ourselves and within everything that exists cannot be done with our senses, no matter what microscopes or telescopes we use, no matter how many degrees we have or how many books we memorize. Our sciences may be very helpful in dealing with the temporary problems of this material world, but to actually connect to the Di

Remember a posting about Srimad Bhagavatam set distribution in Sri Lanka at schools? (Read it below)

Well, today I saw how they do it. Amazing. I’m in Sri Lanka for a week. The day after I arrived I was taken to a meeting of government officers, where the devotees were going to distribute sets.
Six of us went into the meeting room, and about ten people at the front stood waiting to enthusiastically put garlands on us. A very respectful, good way to start.

About a hundred people were in the room

Who were we in our past life? Ever thought about that. Maybe we were already devotees in our last life and blew it up so we have come back again; it’s possible. On the other hand, it might also have been that we were a worm and some vaisnava spat and it landed on our head and by that we attained human birth now and our devotional service has begun. It could also have been that we were a rat in our last life and somehow or other ate some prasadam and that is why we still have a rat like mentalit

"RAMAYANA" book by Bhakti Vikasa Swami

2515179161?profile=original

The appearance day of Lord Ramacandra falls on Wednesday, 5th April this year.

So Ramayana, Valmiki Ramayana, not other Ramayana, the so-called Ramayana... Authority, Valmiki Ramayana. If you read Valmiki Ramayana, that is also as good as reading Bhagavad-gita.

>>> Ref. VedaBase => Bhagavad-gita 7.1 -- October 9, 1975, Durban

I have a great desire to translate the Valmiki Ramayana because that is authorized. Tulsi das' Charit manas is already translated into English by some clergyman, but I do

On March 12, we celebrated first Gaura Purnima festival at Rasamrita Kunj.

Main concept of Rasamrita Kunj project is to create a place where devotees could feel Mayapur Dham being manifested to as much as possible extend. To achieve that a lot of factors were considered. Though no matter how good development could be without kirtan and katha in association with sincere and exalted devotees of Gauranga Mahaprabhu it will not be possible to feel and appreciate the nature and mercy of S

All Names Are Names of Lord Krishna

From the Govinda Bhasya commentary on Vedanta by Acharya Srila Baldeva Vidyabhushana:

Some may quote several passages of the scriptures to identify the Supreme Brahman as someone else than Lord Visnu, or to prove that the creation can have a cause different than Him. Here are some examples:
[From Adhikarana 8 of 4th pada of 1st chapter of Govinda Bhasya:]

The Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad explains:

kṣaraṁ pradhānam amṛtākṣaraḥ haraḥ
“Material nature is in constant flux and the Supreme, Lord Hara is eternal

Bhagavad Gita- manual of life

2515178565?profile=original

Have you ever been at the crossroad, confused about which direction to take... wondered if you needed to quit or continue, leave or stay, do or not do, act or just wait till things tide over?
Being in doubt is a common phenomenon, it's an everyday experience. We constantly question ourselves even in small simple acts... we're playing out these little wars in our mind, thinking of the worst-case scenario... What if I don't attend her party, she may get offended and not talk to me again... what if

kaler doṣa–nidhe rājann

mukta–saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 12.3.51)

Kali yuga is an ocean of faults but there is ONE good quality of this age which is the chanting of the holy name and it is accompanied by the mercy of Lord Caitanya. The importance of the holy name can never be overestimated. We may sometimes ask, “Which service is the best?” and there are different answers.  All forms of pure devotional service are equally transcendental
