Quality of a devotee

In his Bhagavatam class, Prabhupada said that a Vaisnava is always sympathetic. Draupadi, who had lost five sons, was concerned that Asvatthama's mother not have the same distress inflicted upon her. Similarly, Prahlada Maharaja felt compassion for his father, even though he had tried to kill him in so many ways.

The lesson, Prabhupada said, is that a Vaisnava can tolerate any inconvenience and cannot be unhappy in any circumstance. To demonstrate this he told two stories, pro

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

In Bhagavad Gita verse 5.22, Lord Krishna says

Taking vratas

I decided that during Kartika I would only eat once a day, and on Ekadasi I would observe a complete fast. I also chanted thirty-two rounds today. Unfortunately, when it came to doing Prabhupada's massage this evening, I was so weak that after about twenty-five minutes I had to stop, and Prabhupada let me take rest. So, for practical reasons I have abandoned the idea and I will carry on with my normal schedule.

Answering questions

Prabhupada answered one letter today, from Madhava prabhu, one of our scientists who is living at the Boston temple. Madhava said that in trying to work out the details for the construction of the Vedic Planetarium, they had run into many difficulties. He wondered if there were other books they could read that give more details on the universe than the Bhagavatam. He had a number of technical questions, and pointed out that the Fifth Canto descriptions seem to be at wide varia

Quality of shyness

In class Prabhupada spoke at length on the need to properly protect women in order to have stability in human society. The verse described Draupadi as vama-svabhava, a soft-hearted woman. Observing that women in general are soft-hearted, but without the sharp intelligence of men, Prabhupada cited the example of Sita devi, who, being alone in the forest, was captured by Ravana. He is currently translating a section from the Ninth Canto about Rama-lila, and he told us that Sita,

A lot of people have by now heard of Dr. Zakir Naik, and how he is working to convince as many people as possible by his arguments, or his use of his translations of Vedic texts, to become Muslims. And those who are not educated in their own culture, such as simple minded Hindus who have not really
studied their own texts, become enamored by what he says. However, those who knowledgeable of those Vedic texts that Naik seems to use so well, they
become frustrated that so many people take his mistr
