He is the son of Maharṣi Aṅgira and is known as Bṛhaspati, the priest of the demigods. It is said that Droṇacarya was his partial incarnation. Śukracarya was the spiritual master of the demons, and Bṛhaspati challenged him. His son is Kaca, and he delivered the fire weapon first to Bharadvaja Muni.

He begot six sons (like the fire-god) by his wife Candramāsī, one of the reputed stars. He could travel in space, and therefore he could present himself even in the planets of Brahmaloka and Indralok

New Delhi: For the last few years a satellite image purportedly showing an illuminated India on Diwali night unfailingly does the rounds on social media websites. But the fact is the image put up by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Geophysical Data Centre has nothing to do with Diwali, the festival of lights. While not exactly a hoax, it is something shown out of context.

The image in question is actually an overlay of different photos taken by NASA satellites ove

Thursday, October 6th marked the Hindu festival of Dashera which celebrates the victory of the noble Rama over the evil Ravana as told in India’s great epic, the Ramayan. Dashera leads up to Diwali which celebrates Rama’s victorious return to his home in Ayodhya.

To observe these events the Vedic Society at the Global Headquarters of HSBC invited Radhanath Swami to speak to a group of over 1000 bankers including senior executives from the UK Home Office and other investment banks, at it’s landm

I am beside myself with grief and am speechless while trying to digest the reality that His Grace Gopiparanadhana Prabhu has been taken away by Krishna. Krishna’s plan is always perfect but when it manifests in the passing away of such an intimate, loving Godbrother as Gopiparanadhana Prabhu it is painful. But our solace is in our deep confidence that he has attained the ultimate perfection of life, entrance into Radha Giridhari’s eternal lila.

Gopiparanadhana Prabhu was an all-attractive perso

Bhagavad-Gita is bringing light into the darkest regions, namely the prison houses of the world. Two months prior to 2006 Gita Jayanti festival, I requested inmates, who regularly write to me, to write down a few lines about how they received the 1st copy of Bhagavad Gita As It Is and what they learned from the Bhagavad Gita and what are their favorite verses. I have tried to keep the inmates responses as it is in order to keep the originality of the text. The following is a compilation of inmate

By HH Bir Krishna Goswami’sOur Need for AutonomyAutonomy is an interesting concept. It is defined as: “independence or freedom, as of the will or one’s actions.”It is a basic need of the soul to be autonomous, which basically means the soul needs to be free to express itself.Outside of Krishna consciousness autonomy is not possible for the soul. Why is this? Krishna das Kaviraja Goswami explains this quite nicely in the Caitanya Caritamrta:“Because a devotee of Lord Krsna is desireless, he is pe

How To Resist Temptations?

HARE KRISHNA !

How To Resist Temptations?

One of the disciples approached his Guru with a heavy heart. When enquired of his troubled face he said, “Guruji, I am fed up with temptations. At each moment and every place I am tempted. I fear that I will have to leave this life of solitude and prayer due to the irresistible temptations that suppress the joy of my life.”

The Guru consoled him saying, “Don’t worry my child. There is a solution for your problem. Let’s talk about this after two weeks. T

Recently on the occasion of release function for Telugu (South Indian language) version of Srimad Bhagavatam, I wrote a special article in Bhagavad Darshan (Telugu BTG) describing the events leading to the completion of Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavatam. How faithfully the humble disciples of Srila Prabhupada took up the unfinished task of their Spiritual master on their shoulders and thereby became the special recipients of Sri Guru’s mercy was narrated in that article. Srimad Bhagavatam is the h

Hare Krishna.

I attended the recent samadhi ceremony and memorial service for Gopiparanadhana Prabhu at Govardhan. It was an emotional ceremony, full of memories of a most dedicated servant of Srila Prabhupada. I also had the fortune to visit the apartment next to the Govardhan Palace where he left this world. Unmentioned in any reports I read of his passing, Gopi Prabhu was actually living somewhat separately from his family as a vanaprastha and was thus alone when he left.

Years ago I had the
