Sankirtan in bombay

The municipality of Bombay had denied permission to allow construction of a temple on the grounds that kirtana in the temple would be a "nuisance". Giriraja brought this news to Prabhupada's attention at the official end of the festival.

The devotees, now enthusiastic and rejuvenated, prepared to return to their respective temples around the world. It was decided, however, that some of them be encouraged to stay on and hold massive kirtana programs in Bombay to convince res

There are eight types of marriage described in Manusmriti (Laws of Manu) or “Manava Dharma Shastra”:

• Rite of Brahmana (Brahma) – where the father of the bride invites a man learned in the Vedas and a good conduct, and gives his daughter in marriage to him after decking her with jewels and costly garments.

• Rite of the Gods (Daiva) – where the daughter is groomed with ornaments and given to a priest who duly officiates at a sacrifice during the course of its performance of this rite.

Rasanath Das, an ex-investment banker turned Hindu Monk, was spending recent Sunday afternoons leading Occupy Wall Street protesters in meditation until police cleared their camp at New York's Zuccotti Park this week.

The 32-year-old monk isn't sure now where his next session will be. He'll keep following the protesters to lead meditation, though, convinced they will only roll back the inequality around them if they find equanimity deep inside.

"Anger won't solve anything," he told Reuters. "We h

Dear Sir,I have some doubts which I request you to clear:1. In the Hare Krishna mahamantra what does "Rama" refer to? Does it refer to Lord Rama of Ayodhya or does it refer to Lord Rama (Balarama) the brother of Lord Krishna? How can this mantra be Lord Krishna's mantra if it also contains Rama, another name of God, Rama?2. Does it matter if we chant the mahamantra in the reverse order i.e. Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare? Actually this

Thought Of The Day

You never mind in whatever condition you are. You may be a brahmana. You may be a
ksatriya or a sudra or... You have got particular duty. That's all. That makes
you a brahmana and a sudra or a brahmacari. But whatever particular duty you
may have, just try to see whether by your duty this Supreme Lord is satisfied.
Then it is perfect.

Thought Of The Day

Without being self-controlled, without being disciplined and without being fully
obedient, no one can become successful in following the instructions of the
spiritual master, and without doing so, no one is able to go back to Godhead.

Dear Prabhus,

Pamho! AGTSP! I would like to share some instructions from SP which have really helped me in my spiritual life.  I pray they will also help you.

The first is that our primary goal is to purify ourselves:  Our existence is now polluted, and it must be purified (sattvaà çuddhyet). The human life is meant for this purification… (SB. 9.19.20)

A very important method of purification is sadhu sanga, but we require training to do this properly:  “unless and until one is trained in the cul

Thought Of The Day

There is a heavy load on the lord because the lord is very concerned seeing the
living entity suffer and therefore if the devotees of the lord help the lord
take this load off, the lord becomes very indebted to them.

How to understand Krishna

HK PAMHO

His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada states:

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, and His plenary portions cannot be understood by mental speculation nor by the nondevotees. If anyone wants to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he has to take to pure devotional service under the guidance of a pure devotee. Otherwise, the truth of the Supreme Personality of Godhead will always be hidden. It is already stated in Bhagavad-gita (7.25), naham prakasah sarvasya: He is not reveal

24 Forms of Vishnu

2514847645?profile=original
The system of yoga entails controlling the mind, and the Lord of the mind is Aniruddha. It is stated that Aniruddha is four-handed, with Sudarsana cakra, conchshell, club and lotus flower. There are twenty-four forms of Visnu, each differently named. Among these twenty-four forms, Sankarsana, Aniruddha, Pradyumna and Vasudeva are depicted very nicely in the Caitanya-caritamrta, where it is stated that Aniruddha is worshiped by the yogis. Meditation upon voidness is a modern invention of the fert

Thought Of The Day

Krishna has given some the opportunity to serve Him by nice writing, some by good business ability, some by nice cooking, and so on, but these various services are all accepted equally by Krishna. On the transcendental plane, one service is as good as another. There is no question of higher or lower. We are very tiny, and so we cannot really do very much. Simply we can engage our time and energy, and that is all Krishna sees. He sees this boy or girl is spending his time in My Service, and He is

Thought Of The Day

We should never sit idly and ask Krishna to do everything. That is the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita. It is clearly said in the Gita: "Yuddhasya ca mam anusmara [Bg. 8.7]. So ordinarily, we have to try our best to our best capacity to achieve something, and by Krishnas Grace, all of a sudden we shall see everything is there. This sort of help from Krishna is transcendental happiness.
