Thought Of The Day

Prabhupada: Krsna has many names. Krsna has name Govinda. It is not three letters. It is more than that. Krsna has so many thousands names. Advaitam acyutam anadim ananta. So therefore Krsna advises for the beginners, "Just try to remember Me in this way-raso 'ham apsu kaunteya [Bg. 7.8] -- I am the taste of the water." The water you must be drinking twice, thrice, four times. So when you drink water, the taste satisfies your thirst. So if you simply remember, "This taste is Krsna," that is Krsn

Srila Prabhupada comes to America

2514933281?profile=originalSrila Prabhupada comes to America by HG Nirantara Prabhu

(Nicholas D'Angelo was born on May 20, 1950 and was raised a strict Roman Catholic. He went to Catholic school for 13 years, but did not even finish one semester of college at St. Johns University in New York City. Instead, the dormant lusty desires in his heart manifested and he became a "hippy" in 1968. Pursuing the path of "sex, drugs and rock n roll", he tried to become famous and successful as a singer. But by 1972 the reactions of fo

Never have time to read?

I would say that in our movement, one of the great causes why devotees are becoming dry in their spiritual practices is because they don’t get absorbed in reading. Because you see, chanting is something you do because we measure it- 16 rounds- so it is sort of very clear. But we don’t do like one hour of…we don’t vow one hour reading, we just don’t vow it. So we don’t give it the same urgency but it practically has the same urgency. It’s very important- very, very important. If we are not readin

Types of prayers

Types of prayers

(from Gauòéya Vaiñëava Abhidhana)

1. Samprarthanatmika - direct prayer glorifying the Lord. We have many examples of this type of prayer in Narottama Dasa's Prarthana.

2. Svadhainyabodhika - expressing humility and embarrassment, informing the Lord: I am very fallen.

3. Manah-siksa - examples are Bhajahu Re Mana by Govinda das or Manah-siksa by Raghunatha das Gosvami. In this type of prayer the mind becomes a disciple and we teach it how to deal with the senses and relate to inte

Higher Purpose, Higher Taste

I’m not saying you know, somehow or other, if the chocolate tastes good put a rubber band around your tongue or something because you know you just did the wrong thing. No. There’s a natural pleasure that comes from, well Bhagavad Gita analyses it by saying the contact with the senses with their objects: that I see something nice, my fingers touch something nice, you hear something nice, contact of the senses, with, an object, of the sense. That results in a certain amount of pleasure. Okay. We

Chanting from the material platform

We see how Uddhava is completely absorbed in serving Krishna, in remembering Krishna and in particularly the eternal activities of Krishna. Therefore Uddhava automatically is a resident of the spiritual world. That is his constant focus he is just absorbed in the relationship with Krishna. Not absorbed in the relationship with the environment:

Where are we now? What are the conditions like with the weather? What are the people we are with like? Are we sitting nice and cushy? And so on.

Srimati Radharani

This brings up the question of who Radharani is and what Radha-Krsna is.
Actually Radha-Krsna is the exchange of love. This is not ordinary love;
Krsna has immense potencies, of which three are principal: internal, external and marginal.
The internal hladini potency is the pleasure potency.
All living entities have this pleasure-seeking potency, for all beings are trying to have pleasure.
This is the very nature of the living entity. At present we are trying to enjoy our pleasure

THE THIRD OFFENSE is to minimize or blaspheme the order of the spiritual master. The spiritual master gives the holy name. Sampradäya-vihénä ye manträs te niñphalä matäù. Unless you receive the mantra from the spiritual master in sampradäya, it will not have effect. One reason that I chant japa with my disciples each morning is to emphasize the connection between chanting and receiving the mantra from the spiritual master. Unless we have received the mantra in sampradäya it will not have effect.

THE SECOND OFFENSE is to take the names of the demigods, like Brahmä and Siva, to be equal to or independent of the name of Lord Viñëu, or Kåñëa. We see this offense especially in those mistaught in the name of Hinduism or Vedic culture that there are many gods and they are all the same. No. Kåñëas tu bhagavän svayam: Kåñëa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He has many names, but only the names of the Supreme Lord are in the category of hari-näma kértana, and they cannot be compared to thes

THE FIRST OFFENSE is to blaspheme those persons who have actually dedicated their lives to spreading the glories of the Lord, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is called vaiñëava-aparädha. We usually think first of the guru, guru-aparädha, but this offense refers to all devotees, even the so-called little devotees with whom we are living.
Devotee means anyone who is actually surrendered to the teachings of God. You cannot indulge in faultfinding or criticizing such a person. One who has de
