Question: When it comes to stumbling blocks in spiritual progress, with things like lust, pride and disturbances of the mind, I can clearly see them coming or even realise that they are there. Yet still they remain in my mind and I realise that by simple knowledge and awareness, they do not disappear. How do I deal with this, noting that we are conditioned and are aware of it, but we still continue to be conditioned by it?

In 1902 Srila Prabhupada personally organized the first Iskcon Rathayatra Festival, in Calcutta, he was eight years old.

“Like the festival at Puri, Abhay’s Ratha-yatra ran for eight consecutive days. His family members gathered, and the neighborhood children joined in a procession, pulling the cart, playing drums and hand cymbals, and chanting. Wearing a *dhoti* and no shirt in the heat of summer, Abhay led the children in chanting Hare Krsna and in singing the appropriate Be

Brave The Street by Bhaktimarga Swami

Jai and I decided to brave the street and walk to the dock from the ashram.  I say ‘brave’ because we were both fatigued from the previous day's hectic but sweet activities.  There were options for reaching that destination by subway, car, uber, taxi and more, but it is always my experience that energy is produced from output.  Jai and I put it out.

We made it in time to meet with Ananda Gauranga and crew, who were poised for a fire ceremony.  In this fire ceremony, four candidates were already

Yoga Magazine in the UK has published a ten-page feature article in its June issue, written by ISKCON devotees, on the life and spiritual legacy of ISKCON Founder-Acharya Srila Prabhupada.

Yoga Magazine says it is “the number one yoga, health and fitness brand in the UK and USA.” The publication is aimed at upscale cosmopolitan women aged between 25 and 45, who desire to improve their health and wellbeing.

Devotees made a connection when editor Dr. Malik received some of Sril

Several practices led to an excellent presentation made by the young women of this community.  It was back at New Year's, January 1st, when at the tail end of a Prabhupada Festival, I mentioned to one of our Ukrainian girls: "It would be nice if we could develop a garbha dance team a type of folk dance: Gujarati, spiritual."  From that remark, voiced before Sasha and her husband, Yura, a seed was planted.

Sasha had some experience already, in her home country, dancing in kirtan with a group

No walking today, although brain and heart were on the run.  10:15 a.m. was my slot for leading the Twelve-Hour Kirtan.  It is an annual chanting session that begins with American pandit, Dravida, chanting Sanskrit mantras to invoke auspiciousness.  Many participants came, especially young men and women.

It is a relief to see that in the Krishna movement there is activity going on amongst the youth, although we could do with more.  We all know that the new gen have many options out there, no

Robin is from the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and she asked if I could answer some questions, so I agreed.

"So what brings you here to London?"

"I'm the MC for tonight's show here at the auditorium.  It's called Festival of India, and it will feature talent in music, dance and philosophy."  I further explained that I'm from these parts, here in the southern Ontario farmland, and that  I entered monkhood, getting interesting in the lifestyle, when I was going to college in her

Spiritual merit, not wealth, distinguishes the most honored persons in Vedic society.

In Calcutta, 1971, the temple was in quite a bad state because the temple president had become preoccupied in an incense business he had started to raise funds. In the course of his absorption in the business, the devotees in the temple were being neglected. He hardly spent any time with them, and they really had no one to look after them. They were barely surviving. A strong-bodied devotee named Sudama Vipra, who had belonged to the Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang, was so famished that he would

Once you were in the body of a very small child
Then you grew up to become a little wild
Your body as a youth showed all this passion
When people carry on in a certain kind of fashion
And then you took the body of a man
Energy went to responsibility as you plan
Before long your body gets old
You then exit to enter another life of gold
The body will perish but you will not
What I tell you is very good food for thought
The soul is immortal... it will persist
It cannot be injured by sword or b

Under The Sun by Bhaktimarga Swami

Artiome, my Russian friend for a number of years now, hosted me in his home at Isle Perrot.  It is a gorgeous spot just off the St. Lawrence River where it is particularly wide, and before its waters convert to the Lachine Rapids.  At 5:15 a.m., the sun was just perfect.  The morning sun is always life-giving.  It was in the early hours, at sunrise, that our guru, Prabhupada, took his momentous walks.

On intense summer days like these, one has to be careful of over-exposure to that afternoon s

Hidden away in the verdant Sahyadri mountain range in Maharashtra, some ninety kilometers from Mumbai, is Govardhan Ayurveda, a healing center that could change your life.

Like all Ayurvedic centers, it has roots in ancient tradition. But what sets it apart from other such centers is the unique setting – a spiritual community called Govardhan Eco-Village, which takes you back in time and transports you to a dhama, or holy place, 5,000 years ago.

Right outside the doors o

Do you ever watch Mr. Bean? Well, there is one episode that I like where he comes to a hotel and he checks in. He first rings a bell and someone appears from behind the counter and takes him to a room. He wants a cheap one and he is taken to the top of the hotel building and gets into the room. Everything is there and he proceeds to sit. He opens his suitcase and he takes out a drill and then he begins to drill into the wall. Holes in the hotel room’s wall! Then he takes a painting out of his s

This whole spring and summer there’s been a threat of rain about to descend, and it has come, more so than usual, at least in the eastern part of the country. Today was no exception.  The showers came and then the chariot procession was about to begin.  The sun burst through, a light breeze moved in—a miracle from nature.  https://www.facebook.com/prasannatma.dasa/videos/2783643004995683?s=100001647982652&sfns=mo

Why follow Caturmasya?

“The real purpose behind the vow taken during these four months is to minimize the quantity of sense gratification. This is not very difficult.”
– Caitanya-caritamrita, Madhya Lila 4.169, Purport

In the purport to Sri Caitanya-caritamrita, Madhya-lila 4.169, Srila Prabhupada writes that “the Caturmasya period begins in the month of Ashadha (June-July) from the day of Ekadasi called Sayana-ekadasi. The period ends in the month of Kartika (October-November) on the Ekadasi day known as Utthana-eka

The usual, full, six-hour-allotted time was given for the ride to Montreal.  The local community is all hyped up for the weekend's chariot fest.  The afternoon and early evening time had me occupied in greeting everyone: some congregants, some youths from the Krishna Fest Bus Tour and more.  Everything is positive.

It was the late evening to early morning that became very endearing for me.  With the common insomnia issue I have, and weather that causes clothes to stick to the body with its hu

A Padayatra program toured Lithuania, a country in Europe’s Baltic region, from June 23rd to 30th this summer, spreading the Holy Names via Harinama Sankirtana and Rathayatra parades.

The program began twenty-five years ago as the literal definition of Padayatra (walking pilgrimage), and later evolved into a bus tour.

This year, forty-five devotees from all over Lithuania participated, with many more joining them in major cities. Special guests included GBC Bhakti Chaitan
