Sri Vyasa Puja Day

In the late evening Srila Prabhupada asked Palika to cook ekadasi-prasadam. She served it to him around 10:45 p.m. We were all amazed that he had managed to complete the fast.

Just before he took rest at 11:15 p.m. it began to pour with rain. Watching from his window as the heavens opened up, Prabhupada smiled contentedly and said it was an auspicious sign that everything had been a success.

It was difficult for him to rest, however, because of the noise coming from the huge crow

Vrindavan Flood

Every so often Yamunaji floods her banks. This year (2010) the flood was very severe and many people suffered by being inundated with water. Suffering was made worse by the fact that food prices were already at a very high rate and most locals relied upon cheaper locally grown foodstuffs. However, when travelling around the flooded area there was no panic or frustration and everyone seemed to accept their lot without complaint.

Above is a collection of pics of the flood. There are some pics of c

Introduction

In this material world, in order to maintain the body one has to work. Human society is divided, according to work, into four divisions of social order -- brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra. The brahmana class or intelligent class is working in one way, the ksatriya or administrative class is working in another way, and the mercantile class and the laborers are all tending to their specific duties.

1. The cowherd men were astonished when they saw Krsna’s activities, such as lifting Govardhana Hill. Unable to understand His transcendental potency, they approached Nanda Maharaja and spoke as follows.

2. [The cowherd men said:] Since this boy performs such extraordinary activities, how could He warrant a birth among worldly men like us—a birth that for Him would seem contemptible?

3. How could this seven-year-old b

Dumping Tea

Chay! Chay!" The calls of tea vendors echo through India's train stations at any time, whether it be two o'clock in the morning or ten at night. The vendors are always busy selling tea through train windows. Sometimes they climb aboard a train and get off at another station, sure that tea addicts will buy a cup. The voices wake the passengers, reminding them of their daily need, urging them to take a cup of hot tea. "One rupee!" the vendor says.
Drinking tea is not part of our Vedic culture.

n the memories of Srila Prabhupad By Tejiyas Prabhu whereSrila Prabhupada brought this point (Karmic Reactions - Apararabdha, Kuta,Bbija and Prarabdha) into a real life situation to Tejiyas Prabhu.

Bear in mind this is a draft and I am certain that I am not even to be considered a devotee.

Srila Prabhupad is coming to Delhi for the first time since the Vrindaban devotees factions attempted to overthrow me as temple president. I have discovered that I have actually developed quite a talent, by Sril

prakrta-sahajiya--materialistic lust

In order to learn how Krsna's pleasure can be obtained, we must

read the Tenth Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam in which Krsna's pleasure

potency is displayed in His pastimes with Radharani and the damsels of

Vraja. Unfortunately, unintelligent people turn at once to the sports of

Krsna in the Dasama-skandha, the Tenth Canto. Krsna's embracing

Radharani or His dancing with the cowherd girls in the rasa dance are

generally not understood by ordinary men because they consider these

pastimes in the light of mun

Yare dekho tare kaho krishna upadesa

In Srila Prabhupada's keynote address he spoke on Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.7.6. He told his audience that the literary contribution of Vyasadeva is not possible for anyone else to repeat in any age, and that of all the literatures presented by Vyasadeva, the Srimad-Bhagavatam is the spotless purana, free of any cheating. In it, bhakti is established as the stage beyond liberation. Although some may claim otherwise, Srila Prabhupada emphasized that that is not the o

Proper etiquette

In the early morning Prabhupada rang for me. Although I had supposedly cleaned his rooms, he noticed that his silver lota was tarnished and the balcony was covered in a thick layer of dust, so he mildly reminded me that it was my service to attend to these things. He said that if I didn't do them, then he had to see to them himself. I sheepishly concurred: I had neglected the polishing of the lota because it was a task normally taken care of by the cleaning crew supplied by the h

Another soul on his way to Krishna.....

We had just gotten back to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada, where the Halifax brahmacaris are based while traveling around the province with His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami. We were in Halifax for the first time in two months to have a Sunday Feast with the devotees and friends of Krishna. When we arrived for the program, there was a young man whom I had met on the street some months back. The day I met him, as he recalled, he was in a particularly good mood and decided to stop and talk with

One day, when Sri Krsna was out grazing the cows with His akhas, nearby in a field, green chickpea plants were growing. Upon seeing them, Sri Krsna together with His Sakhas broke off some plants. The woman taking care of the field came to know of this and ran to catch them, but Kanhaiya was too swift. Keeping the plants under His arm, He ran very fast through crooked paths and finally came to a stop in Gahvaravana, where He roasted the gre

Explanation of Incarnations Of the Lord

Dasavataras

Q: Lord Buddha described as one of the Dasavataras and as a saktyavesa avatara. Which is correct? What kind of avatar is Lord Ramacandra?

A: Both are correct. The word "dasavatara" or "dasa-avatara" denotes not a category of avataras like yuga-, lila-, manvantara-, or other avataras but the most famous list of ten avataras (in Sanskrit "dasa" = "10"). This list is to be found e.g. in Garuda Purana 1.86.10-11 (or, according to other numbering, 2.30.37). There are other lists as well, li

1. When Indra understood that his sacrifice had been put aside, he became furious with Nanda Maharaja and the other cowherd men, who were accepting Krsna as their Lord.

2. Angry Indra sent forth the clouds of universal destruction, known as samvartaka. Imagining himself the supreme controller, he spoke as follows.

Accept the bad times gracefully !

Hare Krishna Friends,

The happiest person on earth isn't always happy. In fact, the happiest people all have their fair share of low moods, problems and disappointments. Often the difference between a person who is happy and someone who is unhappy is not how often they get low, or even how low they drop, but instead, it's what they do with their low moods.

Many people take their low moods very seriously and try to figure out and analyze what's wrong. They try to force themselves out of their low

Final Step of Karma Yoga

" The final step in the karma-yoga process is to satisfy Lord Visnu, at which point one's own desires are automatically fulfilled. While delineating this point, Lord Krsna says that if work is not performed for His satisfaction, then all activities are tainted with sin and result in sinful reactions, which created havoc in society. In the Bhagavad-gita (3.13), Lord Krsna says, "The devotees of the Lord are released from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is first offered for sacrifice
