Hk dandwat pranam, can someone please clarify my doubt:

In Mahabharat 7.9.201, it is written that Krsna is devotee of Shiva and manifested from Shiva. Why so?

Sloka Reference: https://bhagavatam.in/mb/7/201/95#gsc.tab=0

  • Hare Krishna Prabhu,

Good, thanks for clearing it.  You know right,  Lord Krishna is Supreme Lord of Godhead. So, just stick on to that. Don't get confused about this one perticular line.

context related but not interpolation nicely explained by chaitanya charan prabhu.

    haribol

    • Hari bol, yes Krsna is the supreme personality of Godhead.

  • Hare Krishna,

Where is this sloka from? which book

    bhagvatam.in

I am not sure of this reference.

The sloka is saying Lord Sri Krishna emerged from Shiva. Which is not right.

Pls. check it once again and see if this is authentic source???

    Thanks

That particular shloka is said by Vyasa deva to Ashwatthama after his father and guru Drona had fallen down in battle ground. In anger Ashwatthama released Agni astra upon Pandava army, which caused great destruction, but Arjuna and Krishna were unharmed. Seeing Arjuna and Krishna not harmed, Ashwatthama was very disappointed and started questioning reality, nature etc. He went away from battle field and met Vyasadeva, who is personification of all learning and scriptures. Ashwatthama had full faith in Vyasadeva and questioned him, why his astra failed against Krishna and Arjuna.

At that time Vysadeva explains to Ashwatthama that Krishna and Arjuna are same as Narayana and Nara rishis, who performed austerities for millions of years. They both worshipped lord Shiva and have gained great powers and have the good will of Lord Shiva, who is the destroyer  Ashwatthama was himself worshipper of Shiva, so when Vyasadeva mentions that Arjuna and Krishna are Nara and Narayana who are favoured by Lord Shiva he was pacified.

Vyasadeva mentioned Krishna as being partly manifested of Shiva to drive the point to Ashwatthama that Lord Krishna cannot be destroyed, just like Lord Shiva cannot be destroyed, by any astra. It has to be understood contextually.
