  • Hare Krishna,

Purity of mind and body is important for doing devotional service. Selfless service to Krsna is undoubtedly great., but not all of us are superlative category or saintly in nature.  We all to some extent able to clean our bodies and render service to Krishna.  Purity of mind is tough challenge in the material world whose minds are so super clean these days? HAHha

None of us. Our minds are filled with filth.

Soul is supposed to be clean that statement is nice to say, but the soul is like a glass peice. If you place the yellow cloth behind the glass peice it appears yellow. If you place a red cloth under the glass peice it appears red. So also the soul is SUPER CLEAR  and clean BUT IT reflects the mind.

TO CLEAN YOUR MIND You need to chant.

Chanting is the only way to clean and purify the dirty filthy mind.  When you start chanting you are simply brooming the dirty room filled with dust. Initially it will cause choking as the dirty will fly over you. But slowly slowly the mind become clean and purified and filled with thoughts of Krishna instead of all the filthy matter.

When the mind is filled with Krishna it and SOUL become super clean glass peice and your bhakti will become pure bhakti.

It is a matter of time. None of us is pure. But we can try chant chant chant.

     अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोऽपि वा ।
    यः स्मरेत्पुण्डरीकाक्षं  बाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः ॥
Om Apavitrah Pavitro Vaa Sarva-Avasthaam Gato-[A]pi Vaa |
    Yah Smaret-Punnddariikaakssam Sa Baahya-Abhyantarah Shucih ||

if one is Apavitra (Impure) or Pavitra (Pure), or even in all other conditions

He who remembers Pundarikaksha (Another name of Sri Vishnu, literally meaning with Lotus-like Eyes), He becomes Pure outwardly as well as inwardly

Yes, chanting alone makes us pure.

Hari harati paapani dushta chitaair api smuthah..anichhapi samprustho.. dahateya va hi paavakah >> means  the holy name of HARI is so potent that even if taken without having any intention also will burn the sins like a wild fire. ( as told by Sri Prahalaada).

    Hare Krsna

    anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyaṁ
    jñāna-karmādy-anāvṛtam
    ānukūlyena kṛṣṇānu-
    śīlanaṁ bhaktir uttamā

One should render transcendental loving service to the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa favorably and without desire for material profit or gain through fruitive activities or philosophical speculation. That is called pure devotional service.(Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu 1.1.11)

Impure or mixed devotional service is when devotional service is performed with personal motive for some result or mental speculation.

Example : King Pururava worshipped Sri Vishnu to get Urvashi. This is not pure devotional service. Prahlad boy performed pure devotional service and he did not want anything in return.

what else should I keep clean to make it Pure?

Keep it free from personal material desires/results or mental speculation

    Hare Krsna

    • Ok. I should not desire anything from Krsna that is pure devotional service.

        Hare Krsna

A pure devotee doesn't desire anything from Krsna for themselves. They may desire for Krsna or desire something spiritual for devotees of Sri Krsna

        Hare Krsna

        • I am desiring that Krsna should get one more devotee that is me. I am desiring that Bharat prabhu become best devotee of Krsna.
