  • hare krishna,

im also a normal person like you.luk we are all born or say krishna has sent us on this mother earth for certain purpose, so we will be having some responsibility to do. we are just the puppets in his hand,as krishna says do your do your duty first, work is worship, he resides there itself.he never said us to leave all our duties assigned by him and do his service, but let me tell u doing ur duties is the service what u do to krishna... because he is antaryami which means the man who is residing every where, even in an atomic particle. first fullfill all ur responsibilities and then go to him .do his puja every day and nite at home and complete ur reponsibilities , then he will be satisfied with u, for than what u r doin now. never take those decsions for which u cant answer krishna after reaching him. and never take those steps which hurts your family and krishna. krishna is everywhere, and he is everything. he wont stay in the four walls because he has to help and take care of him. look performing pooja is way showing gratitudes to him , saying thank u to him.  we are i a society wer relationships have have some bondage, we cant leave all those n move on,ya they say all these relationships are materialistic, if so, then y krishna made this, then y did he created this bondage between two person it may mother n son or any thing else.so, if krishna did this then it has some meaning, we should respect his decisons and accept it. everyone leaving job and family and becoming a saint a=cant become srila prabupada, to be like srila prabhpadha u need high maturity and great knowledge, that srila prabhupadha was able to reach krishna's feet peacefully. he is the mastro of saints of this era....may once u know fully about prabupadha's life history  that will give the right answer..

to my opinion work is first... wer u work with pure heart and soul there lies krishna... work or any service to any one in world u do that reaches krishna, try to see krishna in everyone not only in the temple, he is everywhere, what ever the work u do it reaches krishna, only thing is that you shoould do with heart and soul or else he wont accept, offering a glass of water or a tulsi leaf or fruit with pure mind and heart, will be accepted by him he will be satisfied...leaving job and joining temple does mean that u r done with everything.(sorry if i'm harsh)this is my opinion, rest is left to you, atlast i would like to say onething ,u went join temple to reach krishna rite, look be good do good and tell the truth and dont escape from your responsibilties, repect everyone, and there lies krishna.... krishna is not an idol ,krishna is a power, energy,a wake up call to all the evil, krishna the voice which rises against evil, krishna is hand help the needy when in help, krishna is the shelter wen some one is alone in the darkness of materialistic comforts...that is my krishna......

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

I am sorry, my note of dissent is there. It is very natural and I think most of us go through this - when we first come to spirituality and learn about detachment, we develop detachment towards our prescribed duty first. In my case, I was still in school and started to think that this studies is all bogus. It doesnt help.

If you want to check whether you have developed love of God or detachment from only work, then pls put yourself through the following test. I will list out some scenarios for you - you judge for yourself how much of it is true for you:

    1) While chanting the mahamantra, does your heart fill up with love such that your voice becomes choked with emotion - nayanam galadashru dharaya, vadanam gad gad rudhaya gira.....

    2) Does your mind become naturally absorbed in devotional service of the the lord or not?

    3) Does your maind remain steady in calmour, clutter and uproar or not?

    4) Does your mind become distressed on receiving name, honor, prestige, fame or not?

    5) Do you feel enthusiastic to engage in devotional service or not?

    6) Does your mind remain steadfast during calamity or not?

    7) Are you able to remember the lord during distress or not?

    8) Para duke dukhi - do you feel distressed in heart on seeing someone else's distress or not?

    9) Do you feel like hearing more and more the discussions of Srimad Bhagawatam or not?

    10) Do you feel like benefitting every living entity or not?

    11) Do you realise the topmost bliss on meeting a saintly person or not?

This is just illustrative. I could give more, but I already have an idea of your answers.

My advice to you is - become steady in devotional service first - then and only then think of leaving your job and joining the temple full time. Each temple has its own issues - it is manned by people who are themselves struggling in their spiritual path.

What is stopping you from chanting the holy names of the lord - in your mind if you cannot do so loudly? Nobody can control your mind. Till then, do not start thinking of yourself as some bhatka hua yogi - who has already scored 99 runs and is required to do only 1 run in this birth to achieve the goal. Remember, the mark of progress is that one becomes more and more humble and starts thinking of himself as most useless.

You shoudl surrender to guru and Krsna, saying I dont know what I am supposed to do or what is my path - you tell me. You make me an instrument to fulfill Your desire Krsna. I want to become empty like a bamboo stick, so that You can use me like a flute and create music out of me the way You want.  Pls show me the way to You. Leaving your job is not the solution prabhuji.

    This is my humble opinion.

  • Whatever your heart tells you. Spiritual life separate from material life is not wholeness or integration. Just one extreme or the other. Money can do the world good or bad. That depends on how you use it. Nothing has intrinsic value other then what we put on it. Meditation is worthless if when I am doing the dishes it's no longer meditation. Spiritualize every activity and follow your heart. Do the dishes for krishna. I personally lived at a monestary for a little. And I've brought that life back to where I am. The only separation is perceived. Unless a monk has a housemaid and no body. You still have to walk. Life still requires physical effort. You'll have to eat. What's the difference? Spiritualize doing the dishes and then doing the dishes is an offering. Your life an offering. :p. Follow what you feel called to. And if it's a mistake you'll learn from it. In the end your heart will influence your decision regardless of pretty words. If your open to learning and growing there are no mistakes.
  • Hare Krishna Prabhu!

I like your question because it tells us how devoted you are to love of Krishna. I would like you to read again the following verses of Bhagavad Gita before taking any decision:

    sri-bhagavan uvaca
    sannyasah karma-yogas ca nihsreyasa-karav ubhau
    tayos tu karma-sannyasat karma-yogo visisyate (B.G. 5.2)

The Blessed Lord said: The renunciation of work and work in devotion are both good for liberation. But, of the two, work in devotional service is better than renunciation of works.

jneyah sa nitya-sannyasi yo na dvesti na kanksati
nirdvandvo hi maha-baho sukham bandhat pramucyate (B.G. 5.3)

One who neither hates nor desires the fruits of his activities is known to be always renounced. Such a person, liberated from all dualities, easily overcomes material bondage and is completely liberated, O mighty-armed Arjuna.

I hope you will find the perfect direction towards the spiritual progress.

    Please accept my dandvad pranam.

    Amal

  • Hare Krishna Prabhuji, Dandvat! PAMHO! AGTSP! Radhey! Radhey!

I think you have not read Lord Krishna Message in Sri Mad Bhagwad Gita carefully.  When Arjun saw that all his Guru,Pitamah Bhisma and other relative will die in this war so he said to Lord Krishna that he does not want war anymore and he does not require any throne,  even Indra also offer his throne of heaven in the place of war of Kurukshetra.  Arjuna decided to quit the war and asked Lord Krishna it is better to live in forest,  atleast he will save himself from the killing of so many people in Mahabharat Yudh.   Lord Krishna told him that you can not go like this from your prescribe duty which i given you.  You are Kshatriya from your birth and you have to fufill your prescribe duty first then you will consider my great devotee just centralised me in this whole job so you will be save from the fruit of this war.

So prabhu kindly do not leave your prescribe duty but at the same time offer all the fruits of your karma to Lord Krishna by doing so you will always be Krishna Consiousness and happy.
