hare krishna
my question is that
if soul and supersoul are same in quality but different in quantity then can soul expand(or contract) itself like a supersoul(krishna) can? does soul possess this quality of expansion which is in supersoul also?
if it is so then is there any example in scriptures where a soul have shown expansion or contraction.
thnx to read my question

Hare Krsna
There are examples of some yogis expanding in SB.
As the Supreme Personality of Godhead can expand Himself in millions of forms, a yogī can also expand up to nine forms, but not more than that. Another example is that of Saubhari Muni; he also expanded himself into eight forms. But however powerful a yogī may be, he cannot expand himself into more than eight or nine forms.(SB 3.23.44)
But this is material expansion. Even if a yogi expands to 9 forms, it will be same person or same soul.
Spiritually one soul cannot split or be divided in to distinct souls. This is as per Bhagavad Gita
nainaṁ chindanti śastrāṇi
nainaṁ dahati pāvakaḥ
na cainaṁ kledayanty āpo
na śoṣayati mārutaḥ
Hare Krsna Prabhuji,
PAMHO.
Soul cannot expand or contract. The size of the soul is the same, whether in an ant's body or in an elephant's. It is the energy that the soul has that makes inert matter (body) function.
Supersoul is companion of soul in material world. There is no need for supersoul to expand or contract. Everything moving and nonmoving in the material world, supersoul is present anyways.

I too used to ask many such questions and sometimes still do ....but once a sannyasi chastised me..he said..when our hair are on fire the only question is how to extinguish the fire..questions asked without such urgency to serve Radha and Krishna are useless..and i felt he was so right.
It is important to ask questions to clarify doubts, thereby making our faith stronger. We are able to understand and imbibe, rather than blind following. There is enough blind following happening in the world, resulting in chaos and fanaticism. Better to ask the query and get the answer as per scriptures.
Of course, there is no place in the world for doubting thomases or for blind followers. One should follow a middle path, ask questions when there is a genuine doubt. The purpose of asking the question should be spiritual progress, as against showing off one's intelligence or knowledge.
Haribol
I have a question [ maybe it sounds naïve for somebody] : If one is a victim of black magic, is it because of his/her karma, or he/she is just random victim ?
Pranams..Not sure what exactly you asking but we can acquire siddhis because of which we can become smaller than ant and big like mountain like hanuman ji.
"Doing No Harm.
Is this the expansion you speak of? Can U-B more spacific plz.
As I have already told...Smaller than the smallest is in relation to body size only.
Soul remains same size.
SB 11.15.4-5 — Among the eight primary mystic perfections, the three by which one transforms one’s own body
see what Krishna said in this verse.. which I posted in full in previous reply.
last word is one's own body.. what do u infer..
Even if body size increases or decreases the soul size remains the same it wont expand nor contract.
soul is not made of material things.. ONLY MATTER EXPANDS or CONTRACTS we know how things expand and contract as per laws of physics.( when u apply heat the things made of matter expand and when applied cold they contract ) <<< this happens to things made of material or matter only.
SOUL IS NOT MADE OF MATTER ONLY THEN HOW WILL IT EXPAND AND CONTRACT ? NOPE Not possible.
Hare Krishna.,
Have u ever seen a River becoming as big as ocean.. If there is a flood also... River can max increase in volume and flood the city near by but it cannot become Ocean.. It can maximum enter the Ocean.
Body can grown big and small...

read the chapter 18 mystic yoga perfection...given by Sri Krishna to Uddhava.
SB 11.15.4-5 — Among the eight primary mystic perfections, the three by which one transforms one’s own body are aṇimā, becoming smaller than the smallest; mahimā, becoming greater than the greatest; and laghimā, becoming lighter than the lightest. Through the perfection of prāpti one acquires whatever one desires, and through prākāmya-siddhi one experiences any enjoyable object, either in this world or the next. Through īśitā-siddhi one can manipulate the subpotencies of māyā, and through the controlling potency called vaśitā-siddhi one is unimpeded by the three modes of nature. One who has acquired kāmāvasāyitā-siddhi can obtain anything from anywhere, to the highest possible limit. My dear gentle Uddhava, these eight mystic perfections are considered to be naturally existing and unexcelled within this world.
DID you realize ....what is being said is only about the KAYA( Body).
Thru yoga you can make ur( KAYA.)..body become smaller than smallest ...larger then the largerst.. or lighter then the lighest.. and many more perfections u can achieve...like u can hear distant sounds, u can see distant things.. u can travel at the speed of the mind and many more..
But these are all related to body.
Soul...cannot be equated to Supersoul ever.
Qualitatively they are same as Supersoul .....Just like u have qualities of ur parents.....u have their genes in u.. But are u same as ur parent?
A Mayavadi however argues with this point.. In Shivism. they speak about oneness of the soul.. They preach Adwait philosophy.. In Adwait Philosophy....They say..There is no separate atma and parmatma.. They say both are one and the same.
According to Advaita metaphysics, Brahman—the ultimate, transcendent and immanent God of the latter Vedas—appears as the world because of its creative energy (māyā). The world has no separate existence apart from Brahman. The experiencing self (jīva) and the transcendental self of the Universe (ātman) are in reality identical (both are Brahman), though the individual self seems different as space within a container seems different from space as such. These cardinal doctrines are represented in the anonymous verse “brahma satyam jagan mithya; jīvo brahmaiva na aparah” (Brahman is alone True, and this world of plurality is an error; the individual self is not different from Brahman).
They say Soul is in continuation with the Brahman.. and there are not distinct. When they perform tapasya and open the Last chakra in the head.....They say we have realized Brahman." Aham Brahmasmi" I am only the Supersoul.. they realise that..
https://www.iep.utm.edu/adv-veda/ you can go thru further refer to Advait philosophy and Dwaita philosophy.
But In Vaishnavism...We have a distinction .... We say Jiva atma (Soul) and parmatma are different.. They can be qualitatively same but not quantitatively. Soul is a part and parcel of Supersoul but Soul cannot become Supersoul. Vaishnava Philosophy is Dvaita.

you can even read this thread to get some more deeper understanding of Dvaita philosophy.
Whatver u spoke or asked in the question mata ji that can the soul expand or contract ...it cannot happen.
We have never seen a river becoming Ocean.. and Ocean shrinking to become river.
Hope u will understand what u asked is not a simple question It is actually a great question ...It is basic difference between Vaishnavas and Mayavadis.
Any further doubts after u read all these links u may ask.
Hare Krishna.
well pl explain what u mean by expansion
