Lord Rama, a parama bhakt of the paramabrahman Shiva, prayed to a linga made by Mata Sita in Rameshwaram. He had eliminated Ravana who also was a devotee of Paramashiva. This shows that just praying to the parabrahman does not ensure that you can be eternal but following Dharma is sure path to liberation. How we can all emulate Lord Rama? By following the path he showed us during his avatarhood.

How we can all please Lord Rama?
By defeating and removing the evil successors of Ravana who try to spread wretched filthy degrading philosophy of Mayavada. Just like Ravana who tried to replace Rama, these envious mayavadis pose themselves as god and pretend to be worshippers of Lord Shiva. But fact is they only worship their own fake ego. Such mayavadis have been defeated time and again, but just like Ravana they again take birth as faker and faker demons. Defeating and removal of such degraded mayavadis is very pleasing not only to Sri Rama but also to Lord Shiva more so than the fake worship of Lord Shiva by these mayavadis.

During the churning of ocean posion came out. Demigods and demons were very afraid, they had to decide what to do with the posion, who will take the poison, so how did they they come up with someone who can bring peace and rest by consuming posion? VERY EASY
See poison in Sanskrit is called Vish and to settle down things (in this case by consuming posion) would be called vishram in Sanskrit.
So they had VISH already what they needed was RAM , so they had to choose someone who has RAM, so they decided to got to someone who has lord Ram in his heart, the GREATEST DEVOTEE of lord Ram = lord shiva
So they went to lord shiva , and lord shiva days in SB that taking voluntary pain for the help of others, is the greatest way to please lord Hari. So he drank the poison, but since he had lord Ram in his heart that is why he couldn't drink it beyond his throat, of else it will reach lord Ram in his heart, who is although immortal and unaffected by the poison, BUT a devotee like lord shiva would never let any kind of poison read his lord's lotus feet, and he couldn't spit it out since there were devotees of lord Ram outside, do he chanted the holy name of lord Ram and stored it in his throat, he could do that by the mercy of lord Ram, since he is the devotee of lord Ram. So see lord shiva had RAM then he added VISH, which became VISHRAM, so everything was at rest now.
Lord shiva is the greatest devotee of lord Ram, he came in the form of a vanar to serve his lord, when lord shiva told mother Bhavani that he is going in the form of a vanar and would follow celibacy to server the lord, mother Bhavani said, the since tail is the most important part of a vanar, so let me become your tail to server you, on which lord shiva Happyily agreed. Hence lord shiva came as lord hanuman with mother Bhavani being his tail.
Also, ravan claimed to be the devotees of lord Shiva , in reality he was only after Benediction which he received from lord shiva. That ravan tried to ignite the tail of his own lord , what kind of a devotee would do that? That is why lord hanuman burned the house of his false "devotee".
The greatest devotee of lord Shiva is mother parvati only, she went through penances and austerities life and life just to get lord shiva as her husband, she abandoned all kind of wealth and prosperity,and luxuries only to live with lord shiva.
