buying and keeping a bird(parrot) in a cage at home is considered a sin ?
If yes, then what if we teach that bird(parrot can learn) Hare Krishna mantra? is it still a sin?

If u already have one then dont free it thinking u will get some punya. Caged birds do not know how to survive outside the cage. Once let free, they are either caught again and put in cage or eaten by some hawk. Feed the bird with some mahaprasad daily and it will help it elevate in its cycle of species.
If you do not have one now, then better not to buy one. Birds are meant to be free and they suffer a lot when caged. Just imagine how would u feel if you are put in a 6X6X6 box and provided with all facilities there inside? would it make u happy? NO. Never. Birds are no different. They would not be happy if we cage them.
Teaching hare krishna for a bird is good idea. But not if u already have one. If your daughter is insisting to buy one, then explain her how the bird will not be happy inside the cage just like how she will feel if locked up in her room and never let out!!! I bet she will understand and appreciate your thought.

Yes, it's better to not buy at all. If everyone refuses to buy caged birds, then the people who capture and cage these birds will go out of business. That would please the birds very much and they can all be free and happy.

I have heard that caged bird is killed by other birds when set free. I am not sure about this.

Yes, I have heard that if a bird has been caged for a long time that it will not survive out in the wild.Perhaps, before you buy a parrot, check with a "bird specialist" about this concern.
It's nice that you want to teach the parrot the Hare Krishna Mantra. However, I am thinking that the bird would be much happier and would probably live longer if he were allowed to be free and not be caged up.
