when we sleep we are under the mode of ignorance. When we talk, walk...we are under the mode of passion, .....so in this way even Devotees use those lower modes for the service of the Lord.
Body needs rest in order to serve again. So without the power of tama guna one can not take rest. And without the power of passion one can not do management and other active things.
So what is the question.......and argument?!
Your servant,
A purana's category isn't dependent on somebody's declaration..Facts remain facts,irrespective of anybody's belief..
this is off topic, but i was looking around for some answers to the interesting questions posed here, and everywhere i go... it seems like iskcon is being targeted or something...
anyhow, not to deter from the topic... i did notice that a few people mentioned that these puranas and their gunas are on levels of validity. Sattvic = truth, rajas = a few lies, tamas = more lies. But if we have all lies in tama guna, then no one can progress because they make no spiritual advancement. At least that is the way I see it through my limited research.
how to we discriminate the lies from the truth? I think that falls under how you interpret it and what qualities you have. A pious person will immediately pick up on what is right and what is wrong, while a non-pious person will identify the wrongs as "rights"...
To add another angle to this discussion: why do many people believe that the puranas were created in the 3rd + century CE (common era)? I was looking at a page and found this:
Some of the listed Puranas and their possible dates are as follows:
It seems like the influence of Kali...so as to further confuse people from becoming god conscious
i thought all Vedic Shastras are taken into written form by Srila Vyasadev only. And he did that over 5 thousand years ago.
Your servant,
Hare Krishna Rahul Prabhuji
How is Vamana, kurma and matsya purana under rajas and tamas?. I am relating these puranas to the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as vamana, kurma and matsya and hence the question.
Does these puranas describe about incarnation of Lord Vishnu?
jai shree Krishna
Secondly I agree with Mihir Prabhu, KC teaches us about everything. Since Lord Shiva is the greatest Vaishnava, he will immediately bestow mercy onto those that seek out Krishna. And like all Vaishnavas, he is eager to serve and guide those to his dear Krishna. we can learn about Lord Shiva through being a devotee of Krishna.
Also I do agree that we shouldn't read the Shiva Purana. Its nice to read pastimes of Lord Shiva, but by doing so it raises questions about our own faith or we might think negative things against Shiva and his Bhaktas based n th Purana, it's best to read the pastimes of Lord Shiva in the Bhagavatam and to constantly wish to serve the lotus feet of such an amazing servant, who is very dear to Krsna. This way we are clear of our goal and we don't accidentally hurt Lord Shiva...
Just chant Krsna holy names and let Krisna guide you. Bye will arrange for you to meet Lird Shiva if that is your hearts desire (but your heart must be pure)
Ru prepared to receive lord Shiva. R u so perfect. If lord Shiva is easily pleased he also easily gets angry. But Nitaai Gaura is forgiving.
Yes....Lord Shiva is one of the stringent devotee of Lord Krishna, and by Krishna's order he has created a tamashik cult just to stop people approaching Krishna with devilish intention.
YS. Hari Bola.
And in order to see Lord Chaitanya there is a special austerity:
One should chant Hare Krishna Maha Mantra for 3 months starting from Brahma Muhurta in the morning till Sun set. If in between one goes to wash room one should take full bath and again sit and chant. No food till Sun set. No other words for 3 months. If after 2 months one by mistake says some other words one has again start the process from the beginning. So no other words than Hare Krishna Maha Mantra.
Even no notes and all. No talks at all. No reading.
So after such like austerity Lord Gauranga will appear.
This austerity did our Acharya Srila Jagannatha Das Babaji Maharaja.
So as was said above to see Lord Chaitanya is easier than Lord Shiva. So one can imagine what one should do in order to see Lord Shiva.
Your servant,
It's always possible. I believe it was narsi mehta who saw Lord Shiva and was taken to Goloka by him. So it just depends on your level of devotion. Although Lord Shiva is pleased very quickly, it still takes a while and sincere level of devotion. The puranas all narrate the kindess of Lord Shiva in other ages. In this cruel nad crooked age of Kali, it will be more difficult to please Lord Shiva, just because we don't have hte capabilities to act like those in previous ages. In the case of Narsi Metha, here is a summary of the event from wikipedia:
Lord nityananda, on the other hand, is far more merciful. You just chant Hare Krishna, have a little prasadam, read a little Bhagavad/Gita, Bhagavatam, and share this love of God with everyone, and you will most definitely be blessed by Lord nityananda, who in turn guides you to Lord Gauranga (or Krishna).
