Krishna Karnamrita Verse 57.3 Purport

Why does Sri Lilâshuk call Sri Krishna ‘emerald-like’ although He has a blue complexion?

When Murali-Manohar encounters the Vraja Gopis, their golden splendour mingles with His blue sapphire-like complexion and makes Him look like an emerald. E.g.-

“Sri Krishna looked exceptionally beautiful on the Râs-floor and He dazzled like an exquisite emerald amidst golden gems.”

-          (S.B. 10.33.6)

“Srimati Râdhârâni’s lightning-like lustre makes Sri Krishna’s splendour resemble an emerald and Sri Kr

SAD END TO A BRILLIANT CAREER : DOMINIQUE STRAUSS – KAHN

The untimely end to Dominique Strauss – Kahn’s ( hereinafter referred to as DSK ) brilliant career at IMF, precipitated by a momentary “indiscretion”, while trying to have forced sex with the hotel’s housekeeping staff, a Guinean lady, and having been indicted by a NY court on all of seven counts, and now on house arrest and awaiting trial, is a classic example of degeneration of our collective values in modern times.

THE FOUR DIVISIONS OF HUMAN SOCIETY

THE FOUR DIVISIONS OF HUMAN SOCIETY

Most educated and sensitive persons, having seen the divisions in our traditional Indian society into the four classes of men, BRAHMANAS, KSHATRIYAS, VAISHYAS and SHUDRAS, and the practice of social injustices on the basis of this classification, including untouchability ( an unexpected spin off, which occurred later down the centuries ), abhor this classification system, considering it ill conceived and ‘counterproductive’. As we move into ‘flatter’ social st

Brave preacher - Prabhupada

While in Calcutta, Prabhupäda took his morning walk at the Victoria Memorial. I scooped up dirt from his footprints. Years before, on a similar walk in Calcutta, Prabhupäda had pointed to the Victoria Memorial and reminisced how he had climbed the construction scaffolding during his youth. A devotee noted the height of the memorial and remarked to Prabhupada, "You must have been very brave." Prabhupäda replied, "I am still brave

Humans in the Dinosaur Age?

Question: Humans in the Dinosaur Age?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

I recently took my daughter to the Museum of Natural History and we saw a dinosaur exhibit.  According to the exhibit, in the dinosaur age man was not present on earth as per the fossil records.

Did dinosaurs have the same atma as we do today? Was earth one of the 'other' planets at the time? Did the humans exist on some other planet?

Please help me explain this to my daughter.

Sanjay

Material solution means "another problem".

This human form of life should be utilized how to make a solution of the problem. That is Vedic civilization. They stress more on the solution of the problems, not to create problems. The solution of problem in human life is how to stop death. For example, we have made a horseless carriage motorcar, that is advancement but it is not the solution of the problem. I don't consider that although I have got car, still, I have to waste so much time. Now the

The reason why Krishna does not immediately reciprocate

From VCT Sarartha Darsini Tenth canto commentaries:

Purport to Text 10.32.20:But the reason I do not immediately reciprocate the affection of living beings even when they worship Me, O gopīs, is that I want to intensify their loving devotion. They then become like a poor man who has gained some wealth and then lost it, and who thus becomes so anxious about it that he can think of nothing else.

Srila VCT writes:

Krishna's Plan

THE PLAN OF THE LORD
(Source : one of kathaas by His Holiness Srila Lokanath Swami Maharaj at Dwarkadheesh mandir, Dwarka)

Once there was a sweeper in Dwarkadheesh temple at Dwarka and he was very sincere and devoted. Every time he saw thousands of devotees coming to take darshan of the Lord, he thought that the Lord is standing all the time and giving darshan and He must be feeling very tired.

So one day very innocently he asked the Lord whether he can take the place of the Lord for a day so tha

Misconception about Hare Krishna

There is a big misconception going around that Hare Krishna is a religion. Nothing could be further from the truth. To be Krishna conscious is simply to be what you are. In fact, everyone is already a devotee of Lord Krishna because He is God, the original source of all existence. Since everything is part the total existence, everyone is naturally coming from Krishna or God and are therefore by their very nature His devotees. But most people are simply not aware yet of the reality.

Thought Of The Day

We just wanted to point out the forgiving nature of the Lord and His devotees. We devotees also in our dealings with each other should be very forgiving and magnanimous. Krishna forgave Brahma and Indra. Yudhishthira forgave Dhritarashtra. Some may say that we are not so magnanimous. You may not be that magnanimous but by attempting to follow the magnanimous you can also become magnanimous. (Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.13.28), 10.06.03, Nizhny Novgorod
