Sri Haridas Thakur is an eternally liberated associate of the Lord. The associates of the Lord are worship-able wherever they make their appearance.

Just as Garuda appeared as a bird, and Hanuman as a monkey, Haridas Thakur appeared in a family of Yavanas. From his very birth he was very deeply devoted to the Holy Names of Sri Krsna and later became known as “Nama Acarya.”

When Lord Caitanya went to Jagannatha Puri, Haridas also went and took up residence there. Everyday, after attending Lord

The basic storyline of Ramayana is very similar to that of a typical movie.

Both feature a hero, a heroine and a villain; both depict the villain lusting for the heroine; both delineate an exciting confrontation between the hero and the villain, culminating in the destruction of the villain and re-union of the hero and the heroine. However, there is one vital difference in the movie, the hero, the heroine and the villain are all actually villains.

Many people think of a vi

While visiting Madurai and the surrounding area, it is easy to catch the early morning train for Ramesvaram. It is a relaxing ride (about six hours) as we head toward the coast. The first time I went there, it was a pleasant train ride all the way there, but the second time several years later everyone had to jump off and change trains about half-way there. Ramesvaram is a tropical island surrounded by coral reefs and sandy beaches with coconut palms and

A story from the Ramayana

2515238708?profile=original

By Kadamba Kanana Swami

Just now I came from South Africa and my spiritual master was also there and I met him. He was telling a nice story, which I’ll share with you. It was a story of the Ramayana. The Ramayana as we all know is an endless saga, there was great battle in Lanka to free Sita from captivity. Meanwhile Sita was kept in Lanka in this Asoka Grove and there were these raksasis who were constantly harassing her, torturing her in so many ways and just trying to convince her to surrend

Sri Ramacandra Vijayotsava, or Vijaya Dasami is a festival commemorating Lord Ramacandra’s victory over King Ravana.  When Ravana kidnapped Sita Devi, Ramacandra set out to Lanka to punish Ravana and rescue His beloved wife Sita, and this day marks the occasion of Ravana’s defeat.

In Sri Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya-lila, 15.32-35, it describes Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mood during this festival:

“On the victory day celebrating the conquest of Lanka – a day known as Vijaya-dasami – Sri Caitanya Ma

Enthusiasm is the first qualification

The ever-active Mahavira unwittingly provided a bit of light relief this morning for Srila Prabhupada and Dr. Kapoor. They were talking together when Mahavira came into the darsana room on some errand. As he entered he swung the door and it banged. Then advancing forward, he offered his obeisances, banging his head on the ground. Somehow there was just a tad too much energy in everything, the want of a little finesse. As he looked up, face slightly red, Pr

A Lesson from Mother Sita

( from Valmiki's Ramayana  )

Scene - Ashoka Vana in Ravanas Palace - Lanka.

Standing with folded hands, Hanuman suggested, "If you so desire, I
can kill all these hideous Rakshasa women who have tormented you for so
long. In fact, I would take great pleasure in avenging all the suffering
that you had to undergo. I simply await your permission."

By nature, Mother  Sita was very kind to the downtrodden. So, she replied,
"They are only foolish maidservants who had to carry out the orders of the

Sonic technology awakens our potential

Answer: Sonic technology is central to the Vedic program of spiritual redemption.

The Vedic texts explain that all of us are afflicted by spiritual amnesia. As spiritual beings, we are eternal and indestructible. But due to forgetting our spiritual identity, we live in anxiety and fear caused by the fragility and mortality of o

Different Levels of the Spiritual World!

Different Levels of the Spiritual World!"When we finally go to the spiritual world, it's transcendental, and then you have different levels of the spiritual world, where in the Vaikunta planets the devotees of the Lord worship Lord Narayana with awe and reverence and with great pomp, majesty and very formally. Then you go to Ayodhya where Sita, Rama, Lakshmana and Hanuman are there, where Sita-Rama are being worshipped. It is a little less formal, because Rama is playing the part of a king but is

Anger can be controlled

Anger can be controlled. We cannot stop anger altogether, but if we simply become angry with those who blaspheme the Lord or the devotees of the Lord, we control our anger in Krishna Consciousness. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu became angry with the miscreant brothers Jagai and Madhai, who blasphemed and struck Nityananda Prabhu…. One should be ready to tolerate all insults to one’s own self, but when Krishna or His pure devotee is blasphemed , a genuine devotee becomes angry and acts like fire agai
