Anger can be controlled

Anger can be controlled. We cannot stop anger altogether, but if we simply become angry with those who blaspheme the Lord or the devotees of the Lord, we control our anger in Krishna Consciousness. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu became angry with the miscreant brothers Jagai and Madhai, who blasphemed and struck Nityananda Prabhu…. One should be ready to tolerate all insults to one’s own self, but when Krishna or His pure devotee is blasphemed , a genuine devotee becomes angry and acts like fire against the offenders. Krodha, anger, cannot be stopped , but it can be applied rightly. It was in anger that Hanuman set fire to Lanka, but he is worshipped as the greatest devotee of Lord Ramachandra. This means, that he utilized his anger in the right way. Arjuna serves as another example. He was not willing to fight, but Krishna incited his anger : “You must fight!” To fight without anger is not possible. Anger is controlled, however, when utilized in the service of the Lord. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami PrabhupadaIn ‘The Nectar of Instruction’, Text – 1.

  • Hare Krishna mataji, how well said and explained this anger. Yes anger has meaning and in a right way, right place when the anger is applied, it becomes companion to start meaning toward, forward journey. Sri Ramchandra Ji applied anger when demon Ravana challenged everything and Sri Ramchandra Ji excepted and at right place, right time the anger had meaning toward forward journey, which benefitted all mankind.

Very nice illustration, yet it is very difficult to mark a line here. How we come to know that we are in action for the sake of pure devotee of the lord or Sometimes we just try to use these examples to save our skin. Lets us try to control the our anger by just following in this verse of Sri Chanitanya Mahaprabhu, "trinad api sunichena taror api sahishnuna amanina manadena kirtaniyah sada harih" if we try to purely apply it in our actions. Yet we can not in any means tolerate the blaspheme of Guru, Shastra & saints.
