1 राजा परीक्षित ने कहा: जो देवता, असुर तथा मनुष्य परम वैरागी शिव की पूजा करते हैं, वे सामान्यतया धन सम्पदा तथा इन्द्रिय-तृप्ति का आनन्द प्राप्त करते हैं, जबकि लक्ष्मीपति भगवान हरि की पूजा करने वाले, ऐसा नहीं कर पाते।

अध्याय सत्तासी -- साक्षात वेदों द्वारा स्तुति

(श्लोकार्थ 31 -- 50) 

31 न तो प्रकृति, न ही उसका भोग करने के लिए प्रयत्नशील आत्मा कभी जन्म लेते हैं, फिर भी जब ये दोनों संयोग करते हैं, तो जीवों का जन्म होता है, जिस तरह जहाँ तहाँ जल से वायु मिलती है, वहाँ वहाँ बुलबुले बनते हैं। जिस तरह नदियाँ समुद्र में मिलती हैं या विभिन्न फूलों का रस शहद में मिल जाता है, उसी तरह ये सारे बद्धजीव अन्ततोगत्वा अपने विविध नामों तथा गुणों समेत आप ब्रह्म में पुनः लीन हो जाते हैं।

2 वसुदेव ने बड़े ही स्नेह से उनका सत्कार किया। अपने दोनों पुत्रों की शक्ति के विषय में महर्षियों के कथन सुनकर तथा उनके वीरतापूर्ण कार्यों को देखकर वसुदेव को उनकी दिव्यता पर पूर्ण विश्वास हो गया।

3 अतः वसुदेव ने कहा: हे कृष्ण, हे कृष्ण, हे योगिश्रेष्ठ, हे नित्य संकर्षण, मैं जानता हूँ
