9980876686?profile=RESIZE_584xWhen someone uses the word “boxing,” as in Boxing Day, it refers to the day after Christmas when shoppers go bananas over deals on sale. But in the more popular context, it’s a sport. I did a little research on the aggressive punching history of boxing.

The Egyptians were at the game about 3000 B.C. Greeks and Romans took it up. Boxing appears in the Greek epic “The Iliad.” Commonly, leather straps were tied around the wrist to the knuckle. Romans added metal strapping. In about 400 AD, the game

Glories of Tulasi Maharani by Payal Shah

8496505099?profile=RESIZE_400xTulasi is a plant most sacred to Krishna. Tulasi, also known as ‘holy basil’ is auspicious in all respects. She is a pure and great devotee of the Lord, and most dear to Lord Krishna. It is stated in the Brahma Vaivarta Purana that Tulasi, in her last birth was Vrinda devi married to an asura (a person with demonic qualities) named Jalandhar. To gain victory over Jalandhar, Lord Vishnu had persuaded Vrinda devi to give up devotion towards her husband. After being pleased with her, Lord Vishnu bl

9978063483?profile=RESIZE_400xDuring one Ratha-yatra in New York where both Prabhupada and Jayananda attended, I hired a professional film crew to document the entire event. It was a random thing I did just so I could take it back with me to India and show everyone there. In India we had a portable briefcase projector called a Fairchild that was ideal for viewing. It would pop open and people could watch movies right on their desk or we could flip the lens and reflect it on a large sheet for the villagers.
When I did return

What inspired you to start the radio project?

Sudharma devi dasi:The concept grew out of my thinking before covid.  I wanted to see more online, digital content.  We have plenty of that now, but audio,–  li

Of Geese and Men by Bhaktimarga Swami

9977960092?profile=RESIZE_584xSome geese just do not fly south for the winter. Here, at least, some prefer to stay. As long as green grasses linger and temperatures remain mild enough, they just might stick around.

Karan and Sukshi are a marvelous couple, who more recently sprung upon consciousness of Krishna, and they joined me on my walk along Willard Ave., by the Asian farms. A flock of geese decided to munch away next to our walking street. I suppose the geese do contribute their dung to the farmer’s field by way of fert

9975527462?profile=RESIZE_710xSwami Bhaktivedanta brings to the West a salutary reminder that our highly activistic and one-sided culture is faced with a crisis that may end in self-destruction because it lacks the inner depth of an authentic metaphysical consciousness. Without such depth, our moral and political protestations are just so much verbiage. If, in the West, God can no longer be experienced as other than “dead,” it is because of an inner split and self-alienation that have characterized the Western mind in its si

Winter Solstice by Bhaktimarga Swami

9975436665?profile=RESIZE_400x9975436279?profile=RESIZE_400xIt is winter solstice this very day

Nights now shorten, nature does portray

While days lengthen through months May

And June and weeks pass away

It’s an annual turning point

A seasonal juncture, a seasonal joint

A slot in time set not to disappoint

Rather an insertion to bless, to anoint

It’s merely a half year’s completion

Yet some curse this very harsh season

Could it be nature’s way of treason?

Why the harsh cold? Is there a reason?

As the North pole tilts away from the sun

We can learn

I finally decided to put the question to our revered Godsister Sri Yamuna devi dasi, the queen of prasadam cooking. Her answer is below:

As you know, Srila Prabhupada instructed his personal cooks to prepare his rice last in his lunch meal, i

Yamuna-devi — Serving Vani and Vapuh

2515220788?profile=original

By Giriraj Swami

Srila Prabhupada’s beloved disciple Yamuna-devi dasi passed away on Saphala-ekadasi.

There is so much to be said about Srimati Yamuna-devi dasi.

In October of 1970 I was one of a group of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples from America going to join him in India. On the way, we stopped in Brussels, and it was there, in an apartment, that I first met Yamuna-devi—and Malati and Syamasundara (I had met Gurudas before that, in Boston). Upon entering, I could immediately feel their intens

8372051464?profile=RESIZE_400x2020. It’s been a rough year. Brutal for some. Revelatory for others, especially that the leaders in the Kali-yuga (the age of quarrel and hypocrisy) are pretend leaders. There is no proper training on how to be a leader. This pretending has been going on for quite some time, and now it has only become more evident.

In Mahabharata, the teacher, Dronacarya, sent the two prime candidates for leadership into the city to perform a task. Duryodhana is sent to find someone better than himself. Yudhist

Try Your Best for Krishna

9968615881?profile=RESIZE_400x“The secret of success in Krishna Consciousness is to render service to Krishna to the best of our capacity. There is no other alternative to this. The more we render service therefore, the more we are able to advance.

Regarding your feeling yourself as unqualified, whatever you can do, then do it, but you should try your best for Krishna. This is important. Ultimately everything is depending on Lord Krishna. You just have to always remember this.”

(Srila Prabhupada Letter, June 27, 1969)

The Asian Farms by Bhaktimarga Swami

I thought he was tough enough to accept the cold. He accepted the offer. I also thought, “I’ll get to know him more.” He has that commanding officer’s voice. He used it as we carefully ambled along avoiding black ice on the road’s surface. He carries a good conversation. At one point I requested, “I hope you don’t mind but I spend some time chanting
