Why Chant Hare Krishna?

By Jayadvaita SwamiHere’s a page full of reasons. I’ll spare you the footnotes, but each reason is fully upheld by evidence from Vedic writings likeBhagavad-gita, the Upanisads, and the Puranas.· Chanting Hare Krishna awakens love of God.· Chanting Hare Krishna brings liberation as a side benefit along the way.· When you chant Hare Krishna, you automatically develop knowledge and detachment.· Chanting Hare Krishna gets you out of the endless cycle of birth and death.· It is the most effective me

A Krishna Conscious Response to Terrorism

Whenever we hear of a sensational act of terrorism somewhere in the world, especially when it involves the random killing and maiming of innocent people, we ask, “Why?” And when a particular terrorist group comes forward and claims credit for some atrocity, we ask the same question, this time more deeply -- “Why? Why do they hate so much? What can be done to stop them?”The experts say to explain, what to speak of to remedy, terrorism is difficult, because it is such a complex and varied phenomen

HUMAN MINDHuman mind is never still..Like the flowing water it moves steadily & endlessly from onethought to another..-the mouth likes to talk..-the tounge carves to taste..-the eyes long to see..-the legs desire to walk..Every sense organ goes outward seeking pleasureHow can the mind-control be achieved??The water is controlled by arresting its flow..By- dams- embankmentsonly for a while...only until the water gets forceful enough to gush out.The mind flows through the sense organs,by shutting

Keeping my Mind on the MANTRA

During Japa today I struggled with keeping my mind from wandering here, there and everywhere...it's a daily struggle and I usually close my eyes, cup my hand to my ear (so I can hear properly) and just focus on hearing the Mantra.Sometimes this doesn't work though, so I use my last weapon to defeat the mind....reading the mantra whilst I chant. This works everytime and keeps my mind right on the Mantra...it's like a big stick or a slipper, beating the mind into submission "Stay on the Mantra...d

Good Chanting Produces More Good Chanting

How do I know I have chanted good rounds? One of the best indicators for me is that when I finish my rounds I want to keep chanting because I am getting such a nice taste. If I am relieved to put my bead bag down after my last round, that's an indicator that my chanting is not being done properly.Good chanting always produces a taste to chant more. Prabhupada said sixteen rounds is the minimum; constant chanting is the goal.sri sri Gaura Nitai ki jaisri sri Krishna balrama ki jaisri sri Lalita Vi

We are developing

“We are developing”, this is what in general, modern youth say and think that people abroad are highly developed. Yes, they are developed, but only in subjects of matter. They are better than us in manipulating the matter and produce artificial gadgets without which also, we can live very peacefully. We have two options: Either stick with natural, spiritual, pleasing (to soul), highly healthy, hygienic and meaningful Vedic culture of Bharat-varsha or try to imitate the western culture without thi

Letter from Yamaraja

Different people are afraid of different things in life and one person'sobject of fear is not an object of fear for another person. However ingeneral, fear of death is common to all. Some people may boast that they arenot scared of death. However when they get some fatal disease which paralysethem or in case of dangers, the fear of death will be clearly visible intheir eyes. There is no material solution to this attack of Yamaraj and hispunishments after death. Though death is formidable and unc

The Man in the Antique Shop (a short story)

The Man in the Antique Shop

My acquaintance with him began a year ago.

After being laid off from my well-paying job in York, I had taken up a job in a factory in Manchester, fifty miles from my home. The job was tasteless, but at least it helped put some food on the table. My wife had cleaned me out after the divorce and my resources were meagre.

Every evening after work, my factory bus would leave me at this bus-stop. Here, I would have to wait for a connecting cross-county bus to take me on my ho

"Pronounciation during Japa"

"One should note in this connection that chanting involves the activities of the upper and lower lips as well as the tongue. All three must be engaged in chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.The words “Hare Krishna” should be very distinctly pronounced and heard. Sometimes one mechanically produces a hissing sound instead of chanting with the proper pronunciation with the help of the lips and tongue. Chanting is very simple, but one must practice it seriously."Srila Prabhupada, Caitanya Caritam

2012 -- The End of the World?

Hare KrishnaThere is a great deal of propaganda afoot that something dramatic will happen in 2012 and maybe the world will end...We have information from the Vedic scriptures about the nature of this material world. Very extensive information is given about the cycles this world goes through over and over again. It is not that we are in uncharted territory. These cycles repeat, just like every year we have the four seasons. The cycle of the seasons repeats over and over again. Similarly the cycl

Make Japa The No. 1 Priority

http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/2694/srilaprabhupadablissful.jpgToday I was reflecting on this....the importance of Japa cannot be over-stated, it's the most important part of our spiritual day and it's everything in our spiritual life. Good Japa means good reading, hearing and service. If our Japa is concentrated and focused, it means the rest of our sadhana will be concentrated and focused. Srila Prabhupada writes about the importance of Japa in the following letter:“You have to minimize your

Atmavidyavilasa

AtmavidyavilasaBy Swami Sadasiva Brahmendra1. I bow down to the indescribable primordial Guru (Dakshinamurti) who resides by the side of a fig tree, whose lotus hand displays brilliantly the “jnana-mudra’s (in which the tips of the thumb and the index finger of the right hand are joined), who is the sprout of the bliss that is liberation.2. I salute the holy sandals of the noble Paramasivendra which are the effulgent boat that rescues the people who have fallen into this limitless ocean of trans
