"Chanting Japa should be done early in the morning with full concentration preferably during the Brahma Muhurta time. Concentrate fully on the sound vibration of the mantra, pronouncing each name distinctlyand gradually your speed in chanting will increase naturally. Do not worry so much about chanting fast, most important is the hearing."Srila Prabhupada 6/1/72

I was thinking about how our Japa directly affects our service....we chant to cleanse our minds of dirty things - material consciousness...and therefore prepare ourselves for service to Krsna. If our chanting is good quality and produces good consciousness...then we are able to better serve Krsna and remember Him always.

A devotee used this expression the other day to describe someone who is addicted to chanting the Hare Krsna mantra. It's a sign of advancement in Japa, when you are unable to stop chanting and feel as though you can continue all day....what a nice addiction to have! Unlike other unhealthy addictions in the material world, this addiction will solve all the problems of the plane

Hari BolPlease accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Guru and Gauranga. Our beautiful, saintly godbrother, Kuvera Das, drew his last breath this morning at 7:14. As most of you know, Kuvera endured a disease known as ALS for about the last 10 years. This past Sunday he required hospitalization for shortness of breath and dehydration as he was no longer able to drink water. He was discharged from the hospital the next day but was readmitted last evening. He was found to have pneumonia, which

I have been to Vrindavan many times but this time was stranger than I imagined.usually I always reach Delhi and go to stay in Vrindavan for a few days and then return, but this time, unconventionally,Krishna was in no mood to call me so soon. I had nearly given up hope of reaching Vrindavan this year, when I had a dream.Srila Prabhupada came and asked me to follow him.Next day my son who drove the car, and my wife and a friend of hers, got into the car at 6 AM and sped to Vrindavan. We entered V

The term Azhwar literally means "one who has dived deep into the depths of the transcendental bliss or God experience" It is a Tamizh ("Tamil" as often known) term. Tamil is the ancient language of South India also called the Southern language in contrast to Sanskrit, which often is referred to as the Northern language. Excerpted from the Lecture of HH Giriraj Swami, “ DEATH AND DYING IN KRSNA CONSCIOUSNESS’.On May 19, 2005, Giriraj Swami was invited to address the physicians and nurses of San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care. This extraordinary institution has a staff of six hundred and serves, at any one time, 850 to 900 patients. It is the only hospice in the US that boasts its own free-standing hospital, treating terminally ill patients' incidental maladies as well as offering relief for their pain. Dr. Pa

Pujari from Sri Adwaita Acarya's house in Santipura, West Bengal by Mulaprakrti devi dasiThis story was heard in Mayapura in 1980. A man came to the ISKCON's Caitanya Candrodoya Mandira carrying with him a copy of the Back of Godhead article about Srila Prabhupada, entitled A Lifetime in Preparation. A very simple question but so many people seem to get it wrong. Some even seem to think eggs are a vegetable or a fruit or "given naturally" and then okay to eat, some even think fish are part of a vegetarian diet - fruit of the sea....... There are some funny ideas out there, so we will try to clean them up and give some practical assistance herein .The word vegetarian, coined by the founders of the British Vegetarian Society in 1847, comes from the Latin word vegetus, meaning "whole, sound, fr

Nov 10, USA (SUN) — Since October 18th, the Sampradaya Sun website has published 52 articles discussing what can be called "The Hrdayananda Goswami Issue". I apologize to the readers up front for adding to that sum, but I do so for a slightly different purpose.I would submit that the subjective importance that the editors of the Sun and its various contributors assign to HDG and his purported "influence", beneficial or not, is at best an exaggerated preponderance, and at worst, an egregious reve

January 3, 1975Share : Satsvarupa Dasa GoswamiPrabhupada lecture notesYesterday I heard Prabhupada give a lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.26.26 on January 3, 1975, in Mumbai. The false ego in the material world is divided into three according to the modes of material nature. Persons in the mode of goodness see this material world as it is. Those in the modes of passion are making plans without any aim of life. Those in the modes of ignorance are like animals. This ahankara makes one think he belo

By Indradyumna SwamiWhen I arrived at my residence in Vrindavan-dhama, the strain of eleven months of traveling and preaching caught up with me, and I was unable to go outside for two weeks. I spent the time resting, chanting extra rounds, and reading. One evening I decided that the next morning I would finally go out to visit some temples.“There are over five thousand temples in Vrindavan,” I thought, “but even visiting the seven main ones might prove too much for me at this point. I’ll just vi

Radha Mohan Das : It has been forty years since ISKCON made its first mark on the streets of London. The unmistakable sounds of cymbals, saffron and shaven heads charmed and startled Oxford Street in London’s West End, reaching the Evening Standard with the headline “Hare Krishna Startles London”. Nowadays ISKCON is woven to the fabric of London life yet still parades of devotees sharing the Holy Names with shoppers, revelers, business people and international tourists is very common.1969 was th
