His Divine Grace Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja made his appearance as Braja-bandhu Manik in a vaishnava family on 2nd September 1929. He appeared in the village of Jagannathapura, not far from Jagannatha Puri Dhama, in Orissa, India, but as his mother was descended from the Giri family of the village Gadeigiri, Braja-bandhu spent his childhood there. His grandfather was a paramahamsa whose only business was to chant Hare Krishna and cry before the local Deity of Krishna known as Gopal Jiu. He taug

Here is an interesting punch from Srila Prabhupada’s purport in Srimad-Bhagavatam1.9.12 as discovered by Maharaj in his latest visit to Minneapolis. Lying on the bed of arrows, when Bhismadeva is passing away in the presence of Lord Krsna, he told Yudishtira Maharaj,
aho kastam aho 'nyayyam
yad yuyam dharma-nandanah
jivitum narhatha klistam

thought of giving this time was on Srimad Bhagavatam and the other day in New Vrindavan.
When we were in New Vrindavan, I was discussing with mother Krsna Priya about the seminar,
then I realized to cover or to do justice to Srimad bhagavatam in four days, two hours sessions
will not be possible. Therefore I was thinking, I have to give a seminar on some topic rather
instead of presenting the entire Srimad
Yoga means to reconnect our consciousness with God, and the yoga of work is to connect our work with God. How do we connect our work with God? By doing it in proper spiritual consciousness. It is not that we have to change our job or give everything away; it means we have to learn how to live in divine consciousness.
That consciousness develops when we think of God, worship Him and become His devotees, when we associate with saintly people, when we make our home a temple and worship God, when we
As students you can use all your gifts for the ultimate welfare of the human society and in the service of God. Always remain in the mood of a humble person. Always recognize that whatever knowledge or abilities you have, they are by the grace of God. We may work hard to develop them, but without God’s grace, we have nothing to develop. God gives everyone a potential, and it is our free will how we’re going to utilize that potential and for whom.
You should do your studies as best as you can with
The mind is considered to be like a mirror. The soul is seen through this mirror of the mind. But if the mind is full of debris and dust—of lust, greed, anger, pride, envy and illusion—what do we see? We just see debris and dust. We cannot seeour self unless the mirror is clean. Therefore the purpose of all spiritual paths is to clean the mirror of mind so that we can perceive who we actually are, our relationship with God, our relationship with all living beings, and our relationship with the w
There are two ways to meet a glorious death, and both are very rare.
1. One is to die after performing mystic yoga, especially bhakti-yoga, by which one can control the mind and living force and die absorbed in thought of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
2. The second is to die on the battlefield, leading the army and never showing one’s back. These two kinds of death are recommended in the sastra as glorious.
KLANG - Kalidascaran prabhu, left his body about 5.20pm on 22/1/2012. He is an exemplary devotee in that he and his wife remained in ISKCON despite facing great personal and spiritual tribulations. He also served as Temple President of ISKCON Klang. He resigned when his kidneys failed. However, he always attended the local ISKCON programs and major programs in SJMKL. He also always attended ratha yatras despite personal difficulties.
His good wife, Vrajabhumi Lakshmi mataji, showed great perseve

Normally, whenever I am fortunate enough to be in the association of Maharaj, I would try as far as possible to jot down nice instructions of his or interesting incidents revolving around him. They definitely serve as important landmarks to guide us in our faltering spiritual odyssey. No doubt the imprints of these instructions and incidents are of an everlasting nature but in this age we are “blessed” with short-live
This Mind
Why, must I, possess this mind,
It adheres to anything, of any kind.
No prudence it exhibits, no strength of will,
It fails to remain, unattached and still.
From my duties, it makes me shy,
From works auspicious it diverts my eye.
My ally or enemy; its true nature’s unknown
For fickle it was, and even more, it's grown.
Not all is bad, and sometimes, I admit,
Virtuousness, even steadfastness, arise in it,
But a mere second later, its focus starts to sway,
A single temptation and it is led astray

So Caitanya Mahaprabhu teaches from this point, that you are dasa. Give up this idea that you are independent master, or one with God, or so many rascal ideas. That is not good. It begins with this point. As Caitanya Mahaprabhu teaches that jivera svarupa haya nitya-krsna-dasa [Cc. Madhya 20.108-109]. Caitanya Mahaprabhu teaches from the point when Bhagavad-gita ends. Bhagavad-gita says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg. 18.66]. This is the relationship. We are trying to becom

I found the following nice poem in Maharaj’s diary. It was actually written by H. G. Dravida prabhu, a senior disciple of Srila Prabhupada, who played a major role in finishing the last three cantos of Srimad Bhagavatam.
Venue: Mayapur When: February 4th, 2004 Verse: Srimad Bhagvatam 1.3.27-28
Reading from Srimad Bhagvatam Canto 1, chapter 3, text no. 27 and 28.
rasayo manavo deva manu-putra mahaujasah kalah sarve harer eva saprajapatayah smritah
Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupad. Srila Prabhupad ki jai!
All the rishis, Manus, demigods and descendants of Manu, who are especially powerful, are plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord. This also includes the Prajapatis.
