World Enlightenment Day: December 14th

Hare Krsna,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

What does it mean to be enlightened? It means to be out of darkness and in the light of Krsna consciousness. If we're facing the sun can we be in darkness? The material world is a dark place where the main interest in peoples mind is in trying to satisfy the senses which can never be satisfied, this means they've turned their face from Krsna to maya, darkness. To be in the bodily consciousness means to be in dark

Thought Of The Day

Prabhupada: No, this is for spiritual realization. If you chant, then, gradually, you realize yourself that you are a spiritual being; you are not this body. Then his spiritual life begins. Actually human life is meant for spiritual realization, and if one does not spiritually realize his identity, then he remains an animal. That is the difference between animal and man. Man is supposed to be spiritually realized.

Size of the soul

The size of the soul is one ten - thousandth part of the tip of the hair. It means that if we take the tip of the hair and cut it into one ten - thousand parts then that extremely tiny part is the actual size of the soul.

Svetasvatara Upanisad (5.9) confirms the size of the soul:

balagra – sata – bhagasya
satadha kalpitasya ca
bhago jivah sa vijneyah
sa canantyaya kalpate

“When the upper point of a hair is divided into one hundred parts and again each of such parts is further divided into one hundr

Thought Of The Day

Prabhupada: So that is the defect, that the modern civilization, they are not taking care of the spirit soul; they are simply taking care of the machine, body. Therefore the problems are there. You asked, "How to solve the problems?" The problems are there on account of this, that they are not taking care of the driver; they are simply taking care of the machine body. So if you take care of the driver, then he will remain sane, he will drive nicely, the body will not be disastrous, he will live
