I was reading a book about human rights where it said that in Vedic culture, there is no such thing as looking at the human’s right but instead, they look at the human’s duty. This is very interesting because the Western approach to life is about, “My rights! I have the right to be who I am. I have the right to live my own way!” But in Vedic culture, it is not like that. In Vedic culture, it is about dharma(religious principles) and in every situation, one is supposed to ask, “What is my duty?

The spirit of giving the mercy to others should be our focus and we can do it in so many ways. Think of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples. They are interesting because they have a life behind them and somehow or other, each one of them wound up doing a particular service.
I am thinking of Yadubara who first came to Prabhupada as a professional journalist on an assignment. As part of his job, he started filming Prabhupada and then he never stopped. He joined the movement and m

On 22nd Jan, 2018 it was the first day of spring in Vrindavan. Traditionally the deities in all the temples are dressed in yellow. Many Vraja-vasis alsowear yellow. Throughout the day I took a small group of devotees to all the main temples for darshan. There was a wonderful festive atmosphere everywhere we went. At one point a blissful parade passed by us, winding it’s way through Vrindavan’s small streets and lanes. Because it was also the appearance day of Srila Raghuna

My computer has not been working properly for some time, so I have not been regularly doing a morning post. But last night I got her working again, and this morning I couldn’t wait to sit down and post an image with some accompaning text. I admit, I have been spending too much time following the political circus, known as the United States presidential transition, and when I came across this image of Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield, it excited me to read some from the Second chapter.
Cons
I have read and re-read this chapter many times this election year, and this is a perfect description on the demoniac man.
The demoniac man knows no limit to his desire to acquire money. That is unlimited. He only thinks how much assessment he has just now and schemes to engage that stock of wealth farther and farther. For that reason, he does not hesitate to act in any sinful way and so deals in the black market for illegal gratification. He is enamoured by the possessions he has already, such

Krsna is like the sun, maya is like darkness; wherever there is Krsna, maya’s influence cannot be there. So in this way, we do not have to fear. We do not have to think, “How will I conquer this illusory energy? I feel weak”. We should engage in more hearing and chanting, have more devotee association and take only Krsna-prasadam; no potato chips, nothing; just Krsna-prasadam.
You may say, “I offer my potato chips!”
Alright, but actually, they have already been offered t

I was never optimistic of inter-faith conferences. To me, personally speaking, it does not yield any significant outcomes. Leaders from various faiths’ convene but we do not see anything tangible transpire from these meetings. No doubt, it is a good thing in that we can appreciate differences and have a conversation. However, mere tolerance and acknowledgement of differences will not solve serious systemic problems in the religious world. Religion today believed by many is the number o

It’s always nice being invited to Nama Hatta programs when I come to Auckland. The devotees have them regularly every week at different homes around town.
One function I went to was with the family of Suryacandra Krishna das and Gitanjali devi dasi. They worship Sri Sri Gaura Nitai in a beautiful house overlooking the bay.
As usual, the evening starting with kirtan, then lecture and wonderful prasadam cooked and offered by Gitanjali devi dasi herself.

“This chanting should go on. Instead of meetings, resolutions, dissolutions, revolutions and then no solutions, there should be chanting.” His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, from Lilamrita, Volume 6, Page 182
I wonder how much time of my life has been spent in meetings. But then again, together we can make a difference, what can I do alone? And then there are personal matters that cannot always be ignored. Yesterday I was thinking of going early to bed and then rising early. Bu

THE CONCLUSION OF THE BHAGAVAD GITA (reposted from 1-19-11 and added to): In Krishna’s final chapter of the Bhagavad Gita there are a number of places where Vaishnava commentators consider the book could have ended. After the first of his possible endings in verse 63 of the 18th chapter where he tells Arjuna to deliberate on his instructions and decide for himself upon his course of action, Krishna wants to make sure Arjuna and we readers-have understood his hope for all souls

We all feel friendship in our relationship with Krsna where we feel great trust that Krsna will always protect us and that he is acting as our friend and our well-wisher. No matter happens, we are not alone in this world, Krsna is with us.
It is said that in the past, sannyasis would give up the world and go into the forest to become fearless. There were two duties for a sannyasi. One was jñāna-yoga-vyavasthitiḥ (Bhagavad-gita 16.1), to develop knowledge and the other is
This morning as we were reading from the Sri Caianya-caritamrta a sentence jumped out at me and I had to reach for my yellow highlighter pen. We were reading…
…how a brahmacārī should behave under the care of a spiritual master. A spiritual master is not an enjoyer of facilities offered by his disciples. He is like a parent. Without the attentive service of his parents, a child cannot grow to manhood; similarly, without the care of the spiritual master one cannot rise to the plane of transcende

“The Krsna consciousness movement therefore issues a supreme call to all kinds of religionists, asking them with great authority to join this movement, by which one can learn how to love God and thus surpass all formulas and formalities of scriptural injunction. A person who cannot overcome the jurisdiction of stereotyped religious principles is compared to an animal chained up by his master. The purpose of all religion is to understand God and develop one’s dormant love of Godh

Giriraj Swami read and spoke from Bhagavad-gita 8.16.
“After meeting with Srila Prabhupada, Tamal Krishna Goswami informed the devotees, ‘Prabhus, Srila Prabhupada just said that we should go back to Godhead in this lifetime. We should not waste another birth. We should finish up now. However, if we need more time, Krishna will add more years to our life. If we are sincere and serious, Krishna will add more years to our life so we can finish up in this very lifetime.’ Krishna is

London is not the oldest city but certainly it is one of the most important cities in the world.
The *Romans* founded London about 50 AD. Its name is derived from the Celtic word Londinios, which means the place of the bold one.
So we will attempt to be bold for Krishna. Over the last two weeks so may volunteers came together to build the Krishna Castle in the heart of London’s Holborn.
One of the main builders was “Bhima the Giant” (over seven foot seven tall, a famous movie

Lovers of spiritual inspiration may want to set a weekend aside this summer for the Heart of Yoga retreat, to be offered in New York for the sixth time from June 1st to 3rd.
The event grew out of the Bhagavad-gita classes senior Prabhupada disciple Yogesvara Das taught at Jivamukti for ten years.
“We wanted to expand the quantity and variety of activities people could participate in to enhance their bhakti life,” he says. “So we scheduled walking tours, potluck dinners, gues
