The altar in Sri Sri Radha Radhanatha temple in Durban, South Africa this morning. In Srimad Bhagavatam Sukadeva Goswami gives us the following blessings: “Having cut off the nose and ears of Surpanakha, thus disfiguring her, the Lord was separated from mother Sita. He therefore became angry, moving His eyebrows and thus frightening the ocean, who then allowed the Lord to construct a bridge to cross the ocean. Subsequently, the Lord entered the kingdom of Ravana to kil

Romapada Swami: Hearing about Lord Ramacandra is transcendental. Hearing that transcendental vibration of these Rama Charitam – the transcendental characteristics of His pastimes – carries one to the transcendental virtuous position, where affection, affinity, and attraction for the Personality of Godhead awakens, thus diminishing envy, and then the envy in the world. It is like a panacea for Kali-yuga, which is based on uncontrollable quarrel and strife between person and person, family member

A story from the Ramayana

2515238708?profile=original

By Kadamba Kanana Swami

Just now I came from South Africa and my spiritual master was also there and I met him. He was telling a nice story, which I’ll share with you. It was a story of the Ramayana. The Ramayana as we all know is an endless saga, there was great battle in Lanka to free Sita from captivity. Meanwhile Sita was kept in Lanka in this Asoka Grove and there were these raksasis who were constantly harassing her, torturing her in so many ways and just trying to convince her to surrend

Their Lordships Sri Sri Sita Rama Laxmana at Sri Kalaram Temple in Nashik

Nashik is one of the most principal places in the lila of Sri Sri Sita Ram Laxmana. It is here that Laxmana cut the nose of Surpanakha, the sister of demon Ravana. Nashik means "nose", and thus this city got its name. In Nashik at a very holy place called Panchavati, Sri Sri Sita Rama Laxmana spent about one year of their exile before Ravana kidnapped the mayaic expansion of Sita Devi from here. Exact spot where Sri Sri S

Nyepi comes from a lonely word meaning silence, quiet, no activity. Nyepi Day is a Hindu New Year based on the Saka calendar, which began in AD 78. Unlike the celebration of the New Year-every January 1, the New Year of Saka in Bali begins with the solitude and execution of the silence. The main purpose of Nyepi Day is to appeal to Almighty God, to purify Bhuana Alit (human nature / microcosmic) and Bhuana Agung / macrocosmic (universe). In celebration, Hindus will conduct

A Talk by Giriraj Swami Ojai, California

The original Personality of Godhead is Krsna, and He manifests Himself in different forms. One such manifestation is Lord Ramacandra. When Krsna appeared in His original form He acted as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whereas when He appeared as Rama He acted as the ideal king. In fact, the pastimes of Lord Rama display ideals in many ways. Lord Rama appeared as the son of King Dasaratha, and Dasaratha acted as the ideal father and king. Rama acted

Spiritual Amnesia By Satyaraja Dasa

It’s funny how if you give Krishna, God, an inch, he gives you a mile. I remember in my earliest days as a devotee, I had left the movement for some time. I was home, watching TV with my family. All of a sudden, right on the screen there was an ad for the television station with a photo of New York City streets. There he was, my Godbrother Bhaktivinoda, with a close-up of the Channel Two logo below his chin. I had forgotten Krishna for a few weeks, but, compliments of his devotee, he forced him

Govinda Swami: When I came home to Vrindavan I wrote a note that explained my personal crisis while being here … due to the prevailing insane situation in Vrindavan.
After my post, many friends from around the world commented, shared wonderful ideas, and offered their time, expertise, and commitment to help the ecological and heritage crisis that we are facing here in Vrindavan.
I started thinking.

Gold Coast Home Program

2515238417?profile=original

By Ramai Swami

On the way to the Saturday evening Brisbane temple program I stopped off for a lunch program at Rupa Vilasa’s house on the Gold Coast.

He and and his family operate a preaching centre in Southport, which has been going for about five years now. Quite a few devotees came and it was an enjoyable stopover.

Question: I’m wondering how individual free will factors into the verses and purports describing the species of demoniac life. Specifically BG 16.19 -20.

Srila Prabhupada’s purport states: “In this verse it is clearly indicated that the placing of a Particular individual soul in a particular body is the prerogative of the supreme will.”

“As for the demoniac, it is clearly said here that they are perpetually put into the wombs of demons, and thus they continue to be

When we speak about the third offence to the holy name, we speak about disobeying the orders of the spiritual master. But let us think about it in a different way – instead of disobeying orders, one can talk to the spiritual master. The spiritual master can always change the instruction if it can be changed. If the order is unchangeable then he can help us by giving us inspiration to carry on. So really, if the order is too difficult, then one must simply take shelter.

But if somehow, one disob
