ISKCON Latvia 1992-1993

Reputation - A Case Study
ISKCON Latvia 1992-1993

This exciting report from the Riga, Latvia temple, shows how a bad public perception of ISKCON can be dramatically changed. It is a great example of how, by applying communications principles, our mission becomes recognised and respected by all levels of society.

Latvia, one of the Baltic Republics, has a population of 2.5 million people. ISKCON has had a presence here since the early eighties. There are presently two temples locat

On November 29th, 2001 George Harrison passed away in Los Angeles. At that time Radha and Krishna Deities were at the foot of his bed. He was surrounded by family and friends.

During the San Francisco “Summer of Love,” I wrote to George Harrison through an underground newspaper called “the Oracle.” The Oracle had just published a statement by him, to the effect the one could get to the essence of music by chanting mantras. I took it upon myself to write him, care of the Oracle, saying that it wa

When Brahmājī was performing a great sacrifice on behalf of Varuṇa, Maharṣi Bhṛgu was born from the sacrificial fire. He was a great sage, and his very dear wife was Puloma. He couldtravel in space like Durvasa, Narada and others, and he used to visit all the planets of the universe. Before the Battle of Kurukṣetra, he tried to stop the battle. Sometimes he instructed Bhāradvāja Muni about astronomical evolution, and he is the author of the great Bhṛgu-saṁhita, the great astrological calculati

Thought Of The Day

Our material bondage is due to an illusion. What is that
illusion? That "I am this body." Dehatma-buddhi. "I am this
body, and anything which is required for this body or which I possess for the
comfort of this body, that is mine." Both of them are illusion, because I
am not this body; I am soul, aham brahmasmi. But the illusion is everyone is
thinking, "I am this body." "I am Indian," "I am
American," "I am white," "I am black," "I am
brahmana," "I am sudra," "I am this," "I am that."
So this is illusi

Hare Krishna!

Dandvat Pranams to all…

This is a story about how Srila Pabhupad instructed his disciple about cocoa contained in chocolates and inspired that disciple to get higher taste.

Prabhupad took under his care a small orphan boy. Among other services, this boy was given one service of buying vegetables from the market for Srila Prabhupad’s kitchen.

One day (specifically in the summer of year 1973) the boy bought some chocolates (cadbury and 5 star) using the left

Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita 4.7

yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata
abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srjamy aham

“Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion - at that time I descend Myself.”

The religious principle for all living beings is to always remember Krishna and never forget Krishna. It is explained in the Chaitanya Charitamrta 22.113

Live Turkey A Guest of Honor at Govinda's Buffet

2514848424?profile=original

TUCSON, Arizona, USA - The main course at most Thanksgiving dinners was the guest of honor at Govinda's restaurant - the vegetarian buffet had a turkey strolling the outdoor patio on US national holiday on 24th of November.

Just like the turkey pardoned by President Obama yesterday, this gobbler isn't being gobbled by anyone at Govinda's: the restaurant has been serving healthy vegetarian meals in Tucson for the past 18 years, according to Dasarath Pandit, a media contact for the eatery.

Why avoid tea?

2514848391?profile=original

Chay! Chay!” The calls of tea vendors echo through India’s train stations at any time, whether it be two o’clock in the morning or ten at night. The vendors are always busy selling tea through train windows. Sometimes they climb aboard a train and get off at another station, sure that tea addicts will buy a cup. The voices wake the passengers, reminding them of their daily need, urging them to take a cup of hot tea. “One rupee!” the vendor says.

Drinking tea is not part of our Vedic culture. Th

Thought Of the Day

If we understand that this life is meant for understanding Krsna or to advance in
Krsna consciousness, if this much we understand, then also, our life is
successful. But we do not take it seriously. That is the
difficulty.(Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.15.27),New York, 06.03.1975

Money, Krishna, and Us

Money, Krishna, and Us

September 25, 2011
Submitted by:
Vishakha Devi Dasi

How we value, acquire, use, and relate to money reflects our inner state of being.

Sri Sukadeva Goswami said, "Money does not stay in one place. It passes from one hand to another. Ultimately no one can enjoy money, and it remains the property of the Supreme Personality of Godhead." (Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.14.24) Money is God's energy. He created it, He owns it, and He controls it: "Everything animate or inanimate that is within

The Rasa Dance : Introduction

pic23.jpg

In the Srimad-Bhagavatam it is stated the rasa dance took place on the full moon night of the sarat season. From the statement of previous chapters, it appears that the festival of Govardhana Puja was performed just after the dark moon night of the month of Karttika, and thereafter the ceremony of Bhratrdvitiya was performed; then the wrath of Indra was exhibited in the shape of torrents of rain and hailstorm, and Lord Krsna held up Govardhana Hill for seven days, up until the ninth day of the
