Hare Krishna Dear Devotees

Since childhood I have learned that when putting tilak to Lord Vishnu , we only apply kumkum and chandan and not rice. However other deities like Lord Shiva, goddes durga, laxmi etc accepts rice as well as in the tilak.

Why is rice not applied as tilak to any form of Vishnu? Is there any interesting story/explanation for that?

Actually When We Perform Pooja Or any Devotional Activities we wear Chandan Tilak or Kumkum Tilak on our Forehead in all other poojas we use wet kumkum (Mixed with Water or Rose Water)to tilak then put rice on this tilak it is for good looking like Kumkum in red and rice are white good combination for looking. But in Krishna Pooja We use Gopi chandan it is already yellowish/whitish in color and rice are white both are like almost to be same in color. I think This is the reason. and mostly when we perform poojas like shiva or laxmi we put tilak to photoes or dieties. Rice only for Performers Application Only.

Thank you for your reply.I thought that there might be some good reason why rice is not applied to Lord Krishna/Vishnu in tilak.
