    Hare Krsna dear Mataji,

    PAMHO.

By true calling, I mean that the eternal nature of the soul is to serve. We will always serve - whom depends on our consciousness. If we do not get family members, friends, nation, religious fanaticism to serve, then we will keep pets and serve them. However, once our consciousness is completely purified, then we realise that we are eternal servants of God and our true calling is to serve Him at all times, in whatever capacity we are capable of.

In your case, you are getting taste in bhajans or doing devotional service because that is the true nature - your soul finds solace in connecting with the supreme. Therefore, that is not selfishness. Water will flow from higher level to lower level - is that selfishness?

    I hope you understand.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Rashmi

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

Now that you are more specific, it is easier to answer your query.

Specific answers to each point are:

    1) Yes, it is selfishness to ask for near and dear ones also. These family members are dear to us because of bodily connection only na. We have to get above the concept of body and realise that we are soul, not body. Then how does one stay in family if we are to be without any attachments? The answer is that one should have affection for family members, but with a sense of detachment. We should not ask Krsna anything ever, even for family members. We should simply pray to Krsna that He is God and and we are His eternal servants. We should have the sense that whatever suffering we are seeing around us, is because of our own past karma. We should accept that and while we also suffer seeing near and dear ones suffer, we should not let that convert into asking for benedictions from Krsna. We should use our suffering to understand that this world is dukhalayam ashashwatam - nobody has been happy in this world, so how can we. If we are struggling in job or with disease, then we have to accept it. If we are struggling to do devotional service to Krsna, then we should understand that our struggle is pleasing to Krsna. The fact that despite our struggle, we want to render service for the satisfaction of the lord is pleasing to Krsna.

    2. I have a different take on it mataji. If your prayer is - lord please give me strength to cook today so that I can offer to You and then feed my famil members, then it becomes a devotional service and that is acceptable.

    3. We are all in the pursuit of happiness only na mataji - everlasting, enduring happiness. Our true nature is to  serve the lord. If we are happy doing that, then how we are selfish?

    4. Our true nature is to serve the lord, to love Him unconditionally. Like how a river will flow towards the sea or a child will run to the mother, is that selfishness? Yes, we all want to be with the most attractive, richest, most powerful, most famous... etc. Otherwise why people run behind celebrities - for all these qualities only na. You have realised that no point running behind these temporary people, better to be with the reservior of all goodness. That is not selfishness, that is answering your true calling.

I have read that we humans are so selfish that we will not give up anything until we get something better. Even while buying something, we look for discounts so that we get slightly more than our money's worth. Similarly, there are so many instances of rich people (Rupa and Sanatana Goswamis, for instance) who gave up their wealth to spend a life in penury doing sadhana. If they were not getting anything better, would they do it? That is human nature mataji. The thing to understand is that we are going for the ultimate goal - the ultimate truth - beyond which there is nothing and answering what is our true calling.

Please do not confuse between selfishness and true calling.

I hope I have been able to clarify somewhat. If you still have doubts, please ask. It is better to clear our doubts always.

    Haribol,

    Rashmi

  • Hare krishna....

i'm vinay , even i faced the same situation, but my soul that my krishna gave me the answer that, we humans worship him because we cant see anyone else who is as perfect as him . worshipping means giving respect to him obeying him ,loving him . u worship one when u realize that he is perfect one for u , u respect some one when u see the person who is showing u the way for the brightness... its purely unconditional, its not in ur hands.

remember onething u didnt choose him ,he has choosen u, that's the reason u r not aware of the answer to ur question.

coming to the second question...why i wish to stay with him...

u know why..because he has some magic around him... his way of standing sitting playing the flute , way of seeing, his childhood stories, his victorious stories, his perfectionality makes all of us to stay with him..

let me say u a small swwet love story of goda devi and ranganatha swami .....

in a place named villiputtur there was a ranganatha swami temple. and der lived priest named vishnuchittha who was alone in his life and used do worship ranganatha swami daily and perform all pujas to him in the temple. once , early in the morning he woke up and came to the river bank to have bath , after that he was chanting mantras and returning back to the temple ,while returning back he saw a girl child near a tulasi plant on the river bank, he saw the baby and took it home and he adopted her as his daughter and named aandal.the baby was so graceful ,she was resembling as laxmi devi  to all.

she grew up day by day like a moon heading towards pournima, beautiful and divine. as she was growing even the love and bhakti towards the supreme personality was also growing in her. once she saw a basket full f garlands at her house, which were brought offer sri ranganatha ,but she took those garland and she wore it and stood before the mirror and she fellt happy wearing those garlands as its an offense to wear the garlands or flowers  before offering god, so she wore and kept it again in the basket, before her dad saw it, and innocently unknowly vishnuchitta offered it to the god and astonishingly god looked more graceful and divine than the previous days.

this was happenning daily, but once the preist vishnuchitta saw her daughter wearing the garland which wer supposed to be offered to the god.then he said that it was an offense  and he took all new flower garland and offered it to the god but the none could see the gracefullness and the diviness which was present these days atlast when aandal's father thought why this happened then god replied from the aakash vani  that he loved to get dressed in those garland which his  daughter aandal wore, as he loves herr a lot and wanna get married, listening this the preist was very happy and informed this message to her daughter who was already involved fully into god's love.

they reached the temple but god was not there at the temple ,instead the god said to come to sri rangam and he will get married there after 30days that is the day before the uttaryanam punya kalam also known as sankranthi . so to reach the lotus feet of sri rangnatha swami she wrote 30 poems called thirupavvai to please him and to reach him atlast sri ranganatha swami  came on his vehicle garuda and married aandal and she is also called as goda devi ,chudikudutha nanchari. her 30 poems all hyms wer so kind , pleasing, loving and caring that god himself came down to earth to marry her.and she attained the lords love and affection.

so the story infers that everyone loves god but to be loved by him, u should be selfless, as aandal was selfless at her work she only lived for the god  so she attained and pursued him.... so god is only der wer his devotees spell his names , he stays there wer they sing his name.

he is such an angel who makes u stay with and forget the whole  world......... u wish to stay with him  because he is staying with u..... in ur soul...

i hope my answer will help u to understand him.....

    hare  krishna............
