Why do we always want what we do not have?
Because we as jiva are previleged to be in relationship with our beloved lord Sri Krsna. Jiva can attain full satisfaction only in selfless loving service to Sri Krsna. Because we have lost that relationship and engagement we are trying to fill that empitness with something temporary and meaningless. Over many lifetimes a person may realize that nothing of this world can satisfy us. But most people still have hope that something within this world can actually give us lasting & great happiness. Till the time we are searching for something other than or outside of Krsna, jivas are will be in the cycle or hankering, pursuit, attainment, lamentation & aversion.
How should I pray to Lord to stop that thinking?
We could pray to Krsna that we find shelter in Krsna's selfless loving service. We should perform service to Sri Krsna & take shelter of Krsna, especially through the medium of transcendental sound vibration by chanting and hearing Hare Krsna.
