If Krsna is all-attractive and full of bliss, why do people sometimes fall asleep during Bhagavad-gita and Bhagavatam class? Shouldn’t we be super excited?

People are conditioned by the three modes of material nature, passion, ignorance and goodness in various degrees. When such a person tries to listen to Bhagavata Katha then the modes he has acquired are being transcended. In other words, his material fever comes down. Sleep and other symptoms are the reaction to the process because Maya wants you to stay in her clutches so that she can kick you!
1. they feel the katha vachak is boring and monotonous.
2. they feel exhausted and tired because of getitng up so early as they are not used to doing so much exertion.
3. they are lazy as tamasic guna is dominating at that time.
4. Maya is so strong that they nidra devi is diving into the eyes right at the point.
5. Krishna is testing their patience.
6. They are thinking deeply on one thought at that time which the katha vachak told and trying to go into the leela by visualizing it by closing their eyes.
7. They feel they know everything and nothing new is being taught.
8. They don't like the person who is teaching them they want to show disobedience. They indirectly show it by being distracted and act sleepy so that the katha vachak will end the class.
Krishna is full of bliss. Not all fruits on the tree will all become ripe in one season.
Some fruits become ripened and ready for harvesting.. some fall off at the flowering stage only.
Not all devotees are great devotees, and in one birth itself not all ... are ready to go back to Godhead. Everything and everyone has to go thru a process a journey.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful answer! I really appreciate the way you explained everything so clearly. It makes so much sense that different people have different reasons for feeling sleepy, and your points gave me a lot to think about. I especially loved the example of fruits ripening at different times—that really touched my heart.
Your words are inspiring and remind me to be patient with myself and others on this spiritual journey. Grateful for your wisdom and time. Hare Krishna! 😊🌸
