Recently I became troubled to hear the Lord Brahma stole the lovely calves of the Gopas. Surely the Mother Cows would be broken hearted if the calves have disappeared. Every moment they would be thinking of their calves, "Where have they gone?" with tears on the lashes of their kind Cow eyes. They would think of nothing else.Then Lord Brahma even stole the cowherd Boys when Krishna went to find the calves. It upset me to think how the Mothers of the Cowherds would go into the deepest of sad loss if their Boys did not return home. They may even die.Yet Krishna replaced these devastating losses - WITH HIMSELF.Can someone explain to me why Lord Brahma would do such a horrible thing, and how can we cope when we face loss?Your servant in devotion, Jai Shree Krishna

I am thinking perhaps if we assemble those things in our life that Lord Krishna loves, if for some reason we lose that then very soon Krsna personally replaces those rainbows with his wondedpus Self. So there is never loss for those rainbows for devotees. Even if Lord Brahma understood, perhaps He would regain His Fifth Head.
No one can actually explain the real motive of Sri Krishna behind beautiful pastimes performed by HIM. Each mother Gopi wanted to see HIM as her son and wanted that HE had her milk. Similarly, mother cows wanted that HE had her milk. So to fulfill their innocent desires He manifested Himself into respective cowherd boy & calf. Moreover, for Brahma's above misadventure and each incidence in this universe, the last cause is Sri Krishna ONLY (sarv karan karnam).
As mentioned in that pastime, Lord Brahma was bewildered when he saw the supreme lord playing with the cowherd boys and herding calves. He thought how can this small innocent boy be God - the all powerful. Therefore, he did this to test the lord.
These are ways of the lord to exhibit His opulence and the level to which He can protect His devotees - whether they are cows or cowherd men and women whose children were His friends. As you know, every pastime is at various levels - one of the reasons is that Krsna gives knowledge as well as bewilderment. It just goes on to prove that even Brahma can be deluded by maya and the lord may not be revealed to even Brahma, if He does not desire, then what to speak of us. It also teaches me that we can see the lord everywhere around us - even in our family relations to whom we are attached, we can think of them as agents of the lord to tell us what attachment is all about and that we have to develop the same attachment for the lord.
How to cope with loss in the material world - again it is a journey. If you are more specific about your loss prabhuji, I will tell you what are the stages and how to cope. We can think that the way we are feeling separation from our loved one, we should feel the same separation from the lord, then and only then we qualify to be called devotee. We can think that this loved one was with us until now and is not with us now, it is not our desire, therefore it is the lord's desire. Since it is Your desire dear lord, I ACCEPT. I will not blame You for taking this loved one away from me, I will thank You for giving me someone so dear whom I could love and experience the love that is present in the material world. This gave me an opportunity to understand that if the perverted love of material world is so great and overwhelming, what would be the experience of love in the spiritual world.
I dont know how much sense I am making to you prabhuji. I know you are much older and senior to me, still I will request you to please reveal your heart and be specific about your pain. I am helping others in their pain of losing a dear one, so maybe I can help you also.

Your answer is so heart touching and inspiring ,you cant imagine to how much level you have solved my problem.Earlier i thought everything is illusion but this material world is also so wonderful in terms of LOVE .If material love is so wonderful then what can we say of spiritual world.
