    Hare Krsna

It is best to provide answers from scriptures because as conditioned people we are all imperfect.

Srila Prabhupada has answered this in BG as follows

The process of surrender to Kṛṣṇa is described in the Hari-bhakti-vilāsa (11.676):

    ānukūlyasya saṅkalpaḥ(1)
    prātikūlyasya varjanam(2)
    rakṣiṣyatīti viśvāso (3)
    goptṛtve varaṇaṁ tathā(4)
    ātma-nikṣepa-kārpaṇye (5 & 6)
    ṣaḍ-vidhā śaraṇāgatiḥ

    According to the devotional process,

    1) one should simply accept such religious principles that will lead ultimately to the devotional service of the Lord. One may perform a particular occupational duty according to his position in the social order, but if by executing his duty one does not come to the point of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, all his activities are in vain.

    2) Anything that does not lead to the perfectional stage of Kṛṣṇa consciousness should be avoided.

    3) One should be confident that in all circumstances Kṛṣṇa will protect him from all difficulties.

    4) There is no need of thinking how one should keep the body and soul together. Kṛṣṇa will see to that.

    5) One should always think himself helpless and

    6) should consider Kṛṣṇa the only basis for his progress in life.

As soon as one seriously engages himself in devotional service to the Lord in full Kṛṣṇa consciousness, at once he becomes freed from all contamination of material nature. There are different processes of religion and purificatory processes by cultivation of knowledge, meditation in the mystic yoga system, etc., but one who surrenders unto Kṛṣṇa does not have to execute so many methods. That simple surrender unto Kṛṣṇa will save him from unnecessarily wasting time. One can thus make all progress at once and be freed from all sinful reactions.(BG 18.66)

As mentioned by Srila Prabhupada these are 6 aspects of surrender. Hopefully this clarifies the meaning of surrender.

    • Thank you prabhuji, for the reply.

  • Hare Krishna..,

One cannot surrender to God...until one feels that he has some support ..

I agree with Zola preetam prabhu ji as usual he gave a simple one liner reply which is complete in itself. Just trying to expand the same line to make it more clear to understand.

Material world .. definition of surrender is to cease resistance and then submit to the opponent.. but this is not true surrender. Becoz tomorrow if the person gains power again he may retaliate and fight back ...

Surrender in true sense is happily giving oneself to the other in complete realization of the greatness of the other.

Let me tell you a short story..

One day a devoted brahmina who was always devoted to Lord was going to temple.. He saw few beggars of the street and felt like giving them something..He donated some money and some food and proceeded towards temple. On the way to the temple, pride crept in to his mind. He started to feel great about his endeavor ( act of charity) and started to self- praise himself. When he came to the temple also he was in that mood only. He bowed down to Lord and started offering prayers and started to offer fruits and flowers to the Lord.

Lord who is well aware of the brahmina's mind smiled and started to speak.. brahmina  was surprised that that he could hear the deity speak and carefully went near to the deity with folded hands was listening... Lord said.."Oh brahmina why do you offer me fruits and flowers ? offer me something that is yours". You can take these fruits and flowers.

Brahmina was surprised what to offer you Lord? so he brought sweets this time Lord said nah.. think.. take your  time and next time when you come back to me offer me only that which you own.

That whole day the brahmina couldn't feel at peace.. First he thought lord didn't accept my offerings maybe I did some mistake.. then he gave a thought...whole night...questioning himself.. what is that which belongs to me?

he started to rule out each of the options.. flowers , fruits, they don't belong to me.. as the land which they grow is not mine. He looked around his house.. He felt all the things that he possessed were all made of ..5 things... fire, earth, water, air, ether. and thought they don't belong to me..  He said okay i guess I can offer my body ..

But alas! he found out that his body is also made up of those 5 elements only.. Then what is there to offer?

He lost that false ego that he is the body.. He ran to the temple fell flat before the deity and said with tears..

Oh Lord! how foolish I have been to feel proud of those things which I don't even own.  I have nothing to offer to you.. I am nothing. All is Yours.. Even my body is given by You.  My body, my senses, my mind, my intellect even this ego all are yours..I practically don't own anything. Oh Lord..! I am so sorry out of pride of this body I have felt I am a giver and I felt proud that I am offering you something. You have opened my eyes to see today..that I am nothing before You.  I belong to you..My existence is all becoz of  YOU.

My false ego is broken and shattered to pieces ...I am a part of you and I am happy to be a part of you.
    I SURRENDER!!!
