    Hare Krishna

All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to Srila Gurudeva & Gauranga!

It is not a part of the 4 regulative principles. Tea and coffee are not on the same level as alcohol but generally not taken.

You must focus on the most important aspect of Krishna Consciousness. "Sankirtana"

and less focus on useless things like garlic, onion, tea coffee , These things results in increase of Tamasi Nature

    Hare Krishna

  • Hare Krishna, dear Shravan prabhu and other devotees.
The ordinairy thea, coffee, cacao and some soft drinks contains caffeine, that is nothing else then a very small amount of cocaine. You can say a small brother of cocaine. One of the regulative principle is not to use drugs. So, if you neglect this principle, your mind will become intoxicated by drinking this drinks. IF your mind becomes intoxicated, you automatically will not interested in bhakti-yoga. And if you are not following the 4 regulative principles, by drinking ordinairy thea, coffe, etc. how will you come on the platform to perform Harinam Sankirtan? Please, dear devotees , don't use ordinairy thea, but you can use that one which is advised by Manoj Bhika prabhu. This is just an advise. Make up your own mind.
Dear devotees if you don't like this comment, please don't feel offended and maybe other devotees can help.
    Thank you so much.

Caitanya Prabhu, You are just speculating/assuming. Srila Rupa Goswami has given 6 things that are detrimental and 6 things that are beneficial in the practice of devotional service, in the Nectar of Instruction.

      "

One's devotional service is spoiled when he becomes too entangled in the following six activities: (1) eating more than necessary or collecting more funds than required; (2) overendeavoring for mundane things that are very difficult to obtain; (3) talking unnecessarily about mundane subject matters; (4) Practicing the scriptural rules and regulations only for the sake of following them and not for the sake of spiritual advancement, or rejecting the rules and regulations of the scriptures and working independently or whimsically; (5) associating with worldly-minded persons who are not interested in Kṛṣṇa consciousness; and (6) being greedy for mundane achievements.

NoI 3: There are six principles favorable to the execution of pure devotional service: (1) being enthusiastic, (2) endeavoring with confidence, (3) being patient, (4) acting according to regulative principles (such as śravaṇaḿ kīrtanaḿ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇam [SB 7.5.23] — hearing, chanting and remembering Kṛṣṇa), (5) abandoning the association of nondevotees, and (6) following in the footsteps of the previous ācāryas. These six principles undoubtedly assure the complete success of pure devotional service."

"(4) Practicing the scriptural rules and regulations only for the sake of following them and not for the sake of spiritual advancement, or rejecting the rules and regulations of the scriptures and working independently or whimsically;"

If you look at the above point, this is what is happening to many devotees even initiated. We are forgetting why we are giving up tea or coffee etc. As a result they rarely perform Sankirtana.

Not performing Sankirtana is a (in our Brahma Madava Caitanya Sampradaya) is an offense against the Holy Names, Namaparada. Not following the instruction of the Guru.

My advice is in line with the Acharyas, Caitanya Mahaprabhu. First and foremost, Instruction to Perform Sankirtana (Shikshastaka #1)

Avoiding tea, coffee, onion garlic will not take you even 1% toward Krishna Consciousness, whereas

Sankirtana will put you on the path a 100%.

Please forgive me if I have offended anyone.

      • Hare Krishna, dear Shravan prabhu.

Thank you very much for your comment. It was very nice of you to reply on this subject matter. Please, do not worry, you have not offended me.  I also think that you have offended no one.

        Thank you so much.

    • NOTICE All initiated devotees must attend morning and evening classes. Must not be addicted to any kind of intoxicants including coffee tea and cigarettes. They are forbidden to have illicit sexual connections. Must be strictly vegetarian.... Should not extensively mix with non-devotees. Should not eat foodstuff cooked by non-devotee. Should not waste time in idle talks nor Engage himself in frivolous sports. Should always chant and sing the Lord's Holy names.

Thank you for Prabhupada's quote, Bhaktin Carol Mataji,

This is addressed to "All Initiated Devotees"

The person asking this question is not an initiated devotee. He is a neophyte and he must put his efforts that produce the highest results.

Also, Prabhupada did not give these instructions in the order of importance. On the contrary, He saved the most important for the last.

"Should ALWAYS chant (japa) and sing (bhajan/Sankirtana) the Lord's Holy names"

Sankirtana is also Prabhupada's #1 Instruction, just like all Acharyas including Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

    • Very Rightly Said Shravan Prabu ,Everone needs to focus on  the most and the only Important Objective  -- Sankirtana

Every thing else is of very little value .kind of Supplement to the Real thing. Sankirtana is the Highest form of Krishna Prema & its the Yuga dharma for the kali Yuga.

  • Jai Shri Krishna..

We are on earth because we wanted to enjoy.  We were envious of Krishna, so Krishna gave us the opportunity to enjoy and see for ourselves if thats really what we want.  On earth we are in a body which is out of control!  We want to enjoy things which are detrimental to our sense control.  Who know how long we have been roaming on various material planets.  Ultimately we have attained this body which is conducive to Krishna consciousness.  Those that do become Krishna conscious  are the ones who realized that we are the eternal servants of Krishna and that is all that we want.  Hopefully by Krishna's mercy we will attain Goloka.

Drinking of substances like tea; coffee and soft-drinks etc.. can be detrimental to our path in Krishna Bhakti..

Since everything belongs to Krishna, we offer everything which he prescribed in the manner he prescribed to Him before we partake of the remnants we call Prasadama. Tea, Coffee and Softdrinks not all, some which contains caffeine which is a drugs/stimulant is not offer able hence we do not partake.  Even foods etc which are not offered to Krishna is not taken. Ready made or parboiled etc is not offer able to Krishna, hence its not edible by his devotees.

I could go on but I'm sure you got the picture..
